  1. I agree Whether you were around at the time of the early bootlegs or have only recently got into collecting, this is an essential guide Also, I've used it on occasions to 'prove' to someone that the £500 rarity that they want to sell is simply a £10 boot from the 70's! John, you also need to tart it up so it makes a good companion on the shelves to the US & UK guides So when's Volume 4 due Mr M? Cheers Steve
  2. Hi Ian Hope you're well mate? Yep, the B side's a good un ain't it? Here's the blurb i wrote on first hearing it......... 'Sounds like an old record that should have been recorded by Betty Wright in the 70's! (Maybe it was?) Nice 70's style dancer with a 'Southern' feel!' Think I'll dig deeper and get some more info? Cheers Steve
  3. Gloria Shannon has beaten everyone so far (except Sean who already had it ) and they are currently winging their way to all points of the globe!!!!!! Gonna be a monster methinks? All gone now, although I've managed to grab an extra couple of copies so please email me on sales@soulmusic.co.uk to reserve one once they arrive as they won't be available on the site unless they do a repress? For those of you visiting the site, can I suggest that the Rhonda McDaniel 45 is worthy of a listen too? Came out the blue this week and it's a great double sider with a very tidy UNRELEASED version of the Shirley Wahls classic 'Why am I crying' Take the challenge at www.soulmusic.co.uk Cheers Steve
  4. Well it's 1970 so you can breathe a sigh of relief Cheers fella Steve
  5. hee hee You know that's not true mate as you've bought most things i have for sale as new releases BUT appreciate the endorsement btw Wot's this new Steve Cropper track you're playing? Cheers Steve
  6. Hi Mark Great show as usual mate Had to laugh last night..................at 11pm they put the wrong tape on and Norman Connors - Take it to the limit (Arista) came on. I was just thinking that it sounded great and as I remember it being a monster Modern spin back in the day and was thinking that it sounded good on the show...........when on came this DJ to announce a Jazz Funk special LOL 5 minutes later the Silhouettes came back and so did Mark Glad they got it sorted mate BUT that Norman Connors sounded great Cheers Steve
  7. Yep agree on £75 Looks gorgeous doesn't it......................oh and it's a Desert Island Disc for me too Cheers Steve
  8. Both sides are fantastic imho Off the top of me head, it came out twice on yellow and green labels, think with different numbers too and 'maybe' slightly different versions (although i might have dreamt that last bit as it's been a while). Must brush up on me Sammy Ridgley info Crops up on ebay occasionally not sure what it normally reaches (sure someone will check?) Cheers Steve
  9. Nice one fella - Yep, everyone else who has taken challenge has lost btw Good playlist on Friday mate but that's not surprising! Cheers Steve

Fantastic story Bill Many thanks for sharing it with us all Cheers Steve
  13. I think many of the current 70's biggies and choice LP tracks were first spun by people like Billy Davidson etc in the mid/late 80's.......................agree, way ahead of their time them boys!
  14. Just checked me records (the paper variety) and realised I'd only bought it in 1975!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (10p) So, i think it's you that's the old one Mr H..............I'm still a slip of a lad
  15. This fine double sided single can be found here in Mint condition www.soulmusic.co.uk/Crossover_Soul.htm for the price of a couple of pints of Stella and JD chasers Another un being played at the mo' is 'I think I found that girl' an uptempo affair from the 'Nightchaser' LP - not their best LP on Curtom but you should get it anywhere between £10-£15 methinks? Cheers Steve
  16. Post of the week so far for me Nice one Steve
  17. Agree mate! And a 'wonderful' choice there Mr Wallace Will be looking forward to hearing you spinning it in sunny Lanzy in Nov! I'll be dancing that's for sure! 'Love's so wonderful' has been a staple at The Orwell for many years and always goes down well. Sounds like a million dollars for the price of a coupla pints of Stella! Cheers Steve
  18. That's funny, so did I
  19. Never booted on Group 5 Records as far as I know? Cheers Steve
  20. While we're all declaring copies we have for sale, I too have an 'International Music Bag' copy for sale on www.soulmusic.co.uk/Rarities.htm

  22. Dorothy Moore - Misty blue (cough)
  23. This isn't as easy as some folks make out imho? I've always looked to pick this up BUT have only had a couple in the last 15 years and sold them both for £75 each. btw I first heard it via Flanny who played it at the 'On the real side' 70's nights at The Saints in the early 90's, although it sounds like it should (or could) have been a 'last hour' Mecca spin.............maybe Epic can confirm or deny this one? We've played it a few times at Th'Orwell over the years too! Glad it's coming round again as it's a lovely 70's dancer Cheers Steve
  24. Seriously can't believe no one's mentioned the best dance version of the song (in a Modern Soul, crossing over to The Northern scene kinda stylee!) by none other than Dee Dee Warwick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Waaayyyy better than Bay Bros (same tempo BUT 'proper' vocals!) It's a monster I tell ya, a monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Canadian LP only from 1980.................get searching Cheers Steve ps Junior W still THE best version BUT the best dance version is by Dee Dee imho!
