  1. Kev, have spun the pics and hopefully made it easier on your neck Yes indeed Kev, Rob frequently pops up in your living room in various guises , I'm sure he'd agree that this clip represents one of his finest moments Taff
  2. We often slate every attempt by the media in any form to report on our wonderful scene. Came home tonight to find a double centre page spread in the Southend Echo about Northern Soul. I believe the reporter went out of her way to try and find out what this thing of ours was all about. Even soul source gets a mention Sorry bout the crap scans, I only got a small one Taff

Totally by chance our hotel is round the corner from the venue, not that this accident of fate will be believed by the cynical one That's my cultural needs sorted then Taff

With sympathy and no intended sleight to the promoters of the LAI Nottingham event, the unfortunate cancellation brought back memories of somewhat less reputable promoters who inhabited the scene many moons ago. At Morecambe Pier circa 69 / 70 there were regular headline soul acts advertised, The Tops, Elgins, Isleys, Gladys Knight etc etc Anticipation would rise on the night as the hours ticked by and Needle in a Haystack played for the 3rd time, Smiffy would probably head butt a bouncer or 3 coz he was bored, Ducky would pass the time by hurling fire extinguishers at random punters from the balcony above, Acky would always take Eunice Gristlebotham behind Bob's bargain bait stall for a knee trembler, romantic bugger was Acky. Kev B would have a pint of mild too many and do a Geronimo off the side of the pier into the tide. Then eventually, the lights would dim, Ladeez and Genlmen, Boys and Girls, we have an announcement to make, unfortunately the ............(insert 4 Tops, Isley Brothers, Jimmy Ruffin, Elgins) coach has broken down in (Barnsley, Frankfurt, Barnoldswick, randomly insert, try not to use same on successive week ends) but at extremely short notice we have managed to get you, the one and only, the fantastic, the legendary...............Rupert Roughstick and the Ragamuffins cue riot . Nothing unusual in a riot at the Pier, just not that early. Acky and Eunice would usually come back in an hour or so later later to a scene of total carnage and we'd tell them the 4 Tops were awesome. Kev B would be found washed up on the beach with a silly grin on his face. Bloody unreliable were those coaches back in the day When Chairmen of The Board did actually make it to the pier, I seem to recall it being "alleged" that the promoter then did a disappearing act with their loot. Happy days - Taff
  12. Thanks for posting confirmation. Taff
  13. Warren, we look forward to a Masterclass of the Boogaloo Mantra as stated above on July 11th at Capone's Taff
  14. Assuming this thread picks up on honest comments made on our Lookbacks from saturday's Capone's, I told it like I saw it, end of. We've had nights that kicked off early and stayed that way through to the end, that's exactly what I posted on Lookbacks at the time. Saturday's event didn't in my opinion have that buzz all night long as it dipped in the last quarter. That elusive magic dust that makes a night an absolute belter was somehow missing. We have set high standards for ourselves in South Essex and it will not always work perfectly, that's impossible. Hence my reflections based on my view as a punter who was there. Don't quite get the premise that the amount of dancefloor activity is entirely irrelevant Taff, punter and promoter amongst other things p.s. if this is wrong, Mods please post "it was brilliant" in place of my original response

Read lots on here about vinyl collectors doubting the sanity of E bay quoted prices. Don't collect vinyl so never really took too much of an interest. Got a call off a mate tonight asking me if I had bought the Motown Box Set Complete Singles (CD) Vol 6. I had, was told to have a look on said site............. wtf $1500 !!!!!!!!!!!! Another on there for over $900. Free shipping tho, which is nice https://cgi.ebay.com/The-Complete-Motown-Si...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Either the pound has slumped to an all time low, somewhere beneath the Zimbabwean whatever, or someone has discovered the best gear ever. Sell your shares, cash in your ISAS, flog your houses, buy Motown Box Sets Taff
