Tomangoes Acetate ?
Correct Mr Roberts..... This OVO malarkey is old hat now, it only really survived years ago at major venues because vinyl is all we had, had we some of the techo we have now, me and most of my friends wouldnt of travelled to Wigan as we could of stayed local and heard the music that we wanted to hear & dance to - that is what ppl seem to not understand. OVO is hyped up for ppl who where lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time with enough money. For those with great collections, alot of money could be at sake.... To go on, I wouldn't mind if I went to a major venue and they played off a laptop, i'd still pay £ 15 or whatever to get in - infact the sound quality id far better ! :-) With regards the DJs - I want to hear amazing & proper NS you can dance to, not hear stuff that someone has paid large amounts of money for, Kev get rid of the DJs with expense OVO collections and get DJs who know what the audience want to play. I would say to those who have great OVO collections, keep them clean, in their boxes and play from an other media but at least play a quality set like Chris King ! Rant over, LOL

Lou Pride Signed By Russ Winstanley
A great sound - thats what is it, LOL But joking apart....its the inevitable commercial reaction to a potential rebirth of the scene by a blast from our NS past...... as said already its no different to the reissues sitting alongside the Movie by HR Remember OVO isn't everything, the music is what matters and I think you will find in time that if our scene regenerates itself, the new "young" bred unless they are really wealthly they wouldn't on the whole be interested in pieces of vinyl and it will become even a more niche that it is now - the majority of top sounds are available via iTunes and/or Youtube now so what was a necessity in the olden days, isnt such a priority now... but time will tell

Think its too late in the day for that now, however I would be pushing for work to be started on part.2, while both confidence and interest is high.....

Well, I was hugely disappointed with it as I couldn't totally relate to what the storyline was achieving, having attended the Casino '77/78 Musically it was sound but that was never doing to be a bone of contention with the ppl they had to advise, the site design was first class and I was pleased that JA and Soul Bowl were mentioned as without ppl like him we wouldnt of had a scene or some of the top sounds we know take for granted. Was it the right title to use ? Not in my opinion as NS seemed to be the backdrop and the the upward struggle for the main characters Reading some of the comments here I can agree with most of them, I can even accept Ian Dewhirst's statement even though he does have a commercial interest. My main concern is when we ( the ppl who were actually there ) are all long gone and ppl watch this to try and get some kind of prospective of how it truly was, I just hope they just don't accept this as the absolute representation of how it was and at least watch Paul Masons brilliant documentary via the BBC Culture Show and the original Granada documentary as a balance.

Legal Battle Over Stax Assets ( Concord Vs Rondor/evergreen )
Don't know if this has been recently discussed, but I'm curious how this will pans out...... Legal Battle Ensues Over Fate of Broadway-Aimed Stax Records Jukebox Musical By Adam Hetrick 14 Aug 2014 Evergreen Media Holdings announced plans Aug. 13 to develop a film and subsequent Broadway jukebox musical based on the history of R&B and soul label Stax Records. The news follows a separate announcement in July that Concord Music Group and Grammy Award-winning producer Stuart Benjamin were also at work to bring the story to the stage. Academy Award-winning "20 Feet From Stardom" director Morgan Neville is attached to produce the Evergreen film/stage projects that will be based on the Robert Gordon book "Respect Yourself: Stax Records and the Soul Explosion." Evergreen has signed exclusive deals with Gordon and Rondor Music International, which has publishing rights to the majority of the Stax Records catalogue. A lawsuit filed by Evergreen-Rondor states that Rondor Music International "holds the exclusive publishing rights to the vast majority, e.g., approximately ninety-nine percent (99%), of Stax Records' catalog of iconic songs," while Concord only "holds the exclusive rights to the physical masters of certain Stax Records sound recordings." Owning the rights to the sound recordings may not be enough to get Concord's project to the stage, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit continues: "Accordingly, Rondor — and not Concord — has the exclusive rights to license the publishing rights to said Compositions to third-parties and to otherwise use or exploit the Compositions for, among other things, legitimate stage productions (e.g., a Broadway musical production). In order for a legitimate stage musical to be produced using the Compositions, it requires, in any and all circumstances, the grant of the publishing rights for the Compositions. Rondor controls said publishing rights and at no time did Rondor grant those publishing rights to Defendants." However, Concord's ownership of the original masters mean that were Evergreen-Rondor to push forward with a film of "Respect Yourself," the project would be unable to utilize the original recordings owned by Condor. New recordings would have to be made. In addition, the lawsuit states that Concord and Evergreen-Rondor had been in discussions to move forward with the project jointly; however, Concord pushed forward with a press release announcing the stage musical despite being admonished by Evergreen. The Concord release, which indicated a 2016 Broadway arrival for the musical, was issued prior to any official agreement between both parties. Concord, reached by the Hollywood Reporter, stated, "The lawsuit is utterly without merit. Other than that, we have no comment." Evergreen/Rondor's lawsuit states that Concord's premature announcement has "scared away financial investors and made it virtually impossible" for Evergreen to move forward with plans for the film and stage musical. Despite the lawsuit, Evergreen issued its own release about the upcoming film-stage production. Here's how it's billed: "Set in 1960s Memphis against the turbulent height of the civil rights movement, 'Respect Yourself' details the true story of the origins of Stax Records and how at that pivotal point in history, two most unlikely business partners - a white banker and a black radio disc jockey -- at the risk of their own personal safety, come together through their common love of music to create a new genre of Memphis Soul Music. In the process, and against all odds, they build one of the most important and influential record labels of the modern era, Stax Records." "While Evergreen is known for commercially successful branded properties and true stories, it is rare to come across such a unique true story such as Respect Yourself. Like other 'prestige projects' including '12 Years a Slave' or 'The Butler,' which are wonderful ensemble pieces which were imbued with Academy Award potential, the 'Respect Yourself' story, combined with the world-renowned and enduring Stax music, makes Evergreen's feature film project exponentially more commercially viable," said Evergreen CEO Tony DeRosa-Grund in a statement. "Our goal is to simultaneously develop the Stax feature film and Broadway musical. Our plan is to first release the film then very shortly thereafter, open the Broadway musical version of 'Respect Yourself.' By employing this model, the musical can take significant advantage of the millions of dollars spent on the promotion of the film." Songs to be featured include "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay," "Green Onions," "Knock On Wood," "Soul Man," "I'll Take You There," "In The Midnight Hour" and "The Theme from Shaft." Stax Records nurtured the careers of Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & the MG’s, The Staple Singers, Albert King, Johnnie Taylor, Eddie Floyd, William Bell, David Porter, Steve Cropper, and Rufus and Carla Thomas and more. extracted from:- https://m.playbill.com/news/article/legal-battle-ensues-over-fate-of-broadway-aimed-stax-records-jukebox-musica-326780 Strange enough thinking back - how Carla Thomas's track on Kent / Horaces stated different publishing agents - did they have prior knowledge of this situation and played it safe... lol

Recent Sale On Manships - Mr Soul ?
I would have to agree and basically what PROPHONICS 2029 states above would possibly support that idea ......... ie. this is the only release with changed artwork and therefore pressed elsewhere But if you follow that through, this implies that the Al Scott is the true Original and the Mr Soul release is the later re-issue pressing, which the subsequent copies are based upon doesn't it ??
-
Recent Sale On Manships - Mr Soul ?
All is relative though..... First of all referring to Mal C's post you need to decide which came first - Al Scott or Mr Soul, production wise not which was actually played first.

Recent Sale On Manships - Mr Soul ?
Cards on the table, the more I see in relation to this track, the more I question the whole "issue" of this record. I really don't know what to think now, but initially especially when Pete more or less stated what i was thinking I thought this; The Original was credited by Mr Soul, it flopped and re-issued under his proper name Al Scott then it appears to be re-issued again But what is really bugging me is why the same catalog no is used and the proper writer credits aren't used and the way the design of the so called two originals and subsequent copies all dont share the same label design of the Genuine record releases before or after this one ie. 150-x Might be interesting to know where Oswald Muennig from Moskito Prmotions, Munster, GERMANY got these look-a-likes re-issues from

Recent Sale On Manships - Mr Soul ?
Seems you can re-order the re-issues again from here too; https://moskito-mailorder.com/index.php/en/catalog/product/view/id/8014/s/Mr.-Soul-'What-Happened-To-Yesterday'--7%22--back-in-stock!/ DETAILS look-a-like re-issue of ultra rare northern soul track Genuine Records Re-issue by whom ? I wonder what's on the otherside of this look-a-like as the 2 in 150-2 means B-side if you study and follow their std layout with all the other releases in the Genuine series. I'll also state on reviewing every single other record in the series that this seems to be about the only one, which doesn't state their full address under the Genuine banner - why would you have a change in policy midterm like that ie. all releases by Genuine before and after, seem to have the full address on the top of the label ??

Make no mistake, I am mixing nothing up, I am purely offering all the facts surrounding this track in its entirety or as I find them, its up to the reader to make his own mind up about the so called two Originals and subsequent re-issues.

Appears we have been here before with this track, or should I say associated dealings, never seen this one before ............. Extract:- ".....questionable so called second issues, strange one of the labels here the Mr Soul 45 is on Genuine perhaps this word should have been researched prior to going to press, I have a pretty good idea of the source of this current batch but for legal reasons I cant really go there can I? https://www.soul-source.co.uk/articles/soul-articles/more-on-the-dark-side-of-current-scene-dodgy-reissues-r182

Recent Sale On Manships - Mr Soul ?
However, according to the summary of the Twisted Wheel - Soul Gems CD released by EMG, this is what was written by Soul Basement ..... ( extract, which is a total contradiction to the above ....... ) https://www.thesoulbasement.com/Site/Twisting.html ‘What Happened To Yesterday’, billed here as by Al ‘Mr Soul’ Scott, was issued by Genuine first just as by Mr Soul before getting an immediate second wind as by Al Scott - don’t ask me why but, anyway, it’s a catchy little number and makes for a pleasing opener.
