  2. We had a full house for our first event at The George in February with so much great feedback, both on the night & also afterwards! I just couldn't resist sharing some of it so here goes:- "Thank you for asking me to guest DJ, what a brilliant night and it felt so homely good luck for future events" "Was a top night." "Great night guys as always xx" "Thankyou for a great night Kath, had a blast.xx" "Good night " "Lovely stuff ta. It was seriously one of the best nights I have had in a long time. You all should be very proud - it was electric. Canโ€™t wait for the next one." Every bit of feedback is always very much appreciated - glad to see that we got it right!
  3. I've spent all day thinking just what to write about last night at The George - it was such an absolute blast that I don't even know where to begin! We were supposed to be opening the doors at 8pm, but by 7.30 people were already beginning to arrive - by 8pm we had just over 30 in & people were stepping onto the dance floor! Clearly we were in for a very busy night..... By around 9.30 we had a full house & I was a bit worried that we might have to turn people away, but happily we managed to fit everybody in.......just. The atmosphere was absolutely BUZZING - busy dance floor all night & feedback was all very positive from the get-go - everyone said how great the venue is - music spot on - bar prices good etc.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ We initially had a slight problem with seating - we'd warned the venue that we were in for a busy night & would need lots of seating, but even then they underestimated just HOW busy! The staff soon realized & found more chairs etc. Teething problems that will all be sorted for our next event at The George! Last - but by no means least - Soul Brew want to say thanks to everyone who came to support us at our first event - all very much appreciated. Thanks also to guest DJ Jonah - you played a storming spot & every tune went down really well with the dancers. Looking forward now to our next event at The George - we'd hoped to book the 3rd Saturday of the month again, but the only date available to us in March was Friday 10th March so we've booked that & then hopefully we'll be back to the 3rd Saturday of every month.๐Ÿ˜€
  4. Well tonight's the night - it's all looking really good & promising to be a very busy night at The George! Please be early to avoid disappointment - doors open at 8pm. PS - Best get your dancing shoes out - you'll need them!!๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ
  5. Soul Brew have been asked to spin some vinyl at a Good Friday Special at Headley Golf Club, Thornton, Bradford & they just couldn't resist accepting the invitation! It will be a night of Northern stompers, club soul & R&B, plus a few rare & underplayed gems thrown in for good measure. Vicky Darbyshire (Ripon Soul Club) will be joining Soul Brew DJs Marc, Stuart & Steve to spin a few tunes to please the dancers. ๐Ÿ’ƒ ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ The bar will open at 6.30 & the DJs will be on the decks from 7.30 onwards. Door tax on the night is 7.00 - advance tickets are available online from headleygolfclub.co.uk at a discounted price of 5.00 per ticket. You can also contact info@headleyvenue.co.uk or phone the golf club on 01274 831215 for more info.
  6. !!!NEWSFLASH!!! PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO THE BAD WEATHER & FREEZING TEMPERATURE THAT IS FORECAST FOR TONIGHT, WE HAVE RELUCTANTLY TAKEN THE DECISION TO CANCEL TONIGHT'S EVENT. GUTTED BUT THINK IT'S FOR THE BEST! ๐Ÿ˜ญ Looking forward to another storming night of Northern stompers, Motown dancers, 60s club soul & up-tempo R&B, along with a sprinkling of rare & underplayed tunes thrown in for good measure. All aimed to keep the dancers happy & the floor busy - dig out those dancing shoes! ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ The Mead Hall is situated upstairs in the George Hotel - it has bags of character - a warm, welcoming atmosphere & a good-sized dance floor. It is very easy to find - just up the road from Cleckheaton bus station - & also has it's own private car park. Drinks promos will be on offer on the night & there will be a menu available at the Mead Hall bar for food to order from the downstairs restaurant. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‹ Card payments are accepted at the bar, but cash only on the door please. ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽงTHIS MONTH'S GUEST DJ IS ADE RUSHWORTH (BRADFORD'S SOUL ON SUNDAY) ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽง

A night of pure soul & classic soul grooves, plus a ska & reggae rewind room.
  8. With two weeks still to go until Soul Brew's first event in our new venue, we've already had LOADS & LOADS of interest - so far it's looking as though we're in for an extremely busy night! Doors open at 8pm - please be early to avoid disappointment. ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ
  9. I've just seen this post on Facebook & shared it - talc can be absolutely lethal! I really sympathize with Karl & Trudy. I also know quite a few who people who suffer from breathing problems due to spending years breathing in the stuff on dance floors up & down the country.๐Ÿ˜ข
  10. Maybe I should have done that Chalky - I'm too honest for my own good......๐Ÿ˜…
  11. I've just been sent a list of the drinks promos that will be on offer on the night. Pint of House lager - 3.00 3x bottles Budweiser 10.00 Bottle of house wine (Red, white or rose) 15.00 House spirit plus mixer 3.50 Cocktails 2 for 12.00 ๐Ÿป๐Ÿท๐Ÿบ
  12. The last all-nighter I went to was at The Twisted Wheel in 1970 when I was 19. I'd spent the previous 4 years - every weekend without fail - at some all-nighter or other totally off my head for the entire weekend! I doubt I would have lasted the night unless I'd had at least a bit of gear - certainly wouldn't have made it to the usual all-dayer on the following Sunday morning! I vaguely remember trying just once without any, just to see if I could last - everyone around me seemed to be gabbling absolute rubbish at 100 miles per hour. Made me realize how much garbage we all talked when we'd had a bit of whizz, although all I can recall is wanting to dance non-stop. I used to turn up at work on a Monday morning with blisters the size of doorsteps on the soles of my feet! But no - I really don't think it would have felt anywhere near as good without the chemical assistance. Had a great time & lived to tell the tale - still have a few friends who like to have a bit of a dabble - but I've not had any whizz since then & far too old & sensible to try it now.
  13. Not my post, but copied & pasted from a post on facebook - thought it could be an interesting debate as today is National DJ Day...๐Ÿ™‚ During a recent set, while I was back facing the decks, someone came by to check what I was spinning, quickly went away (faster than a ji*z, not even noticed), and shouted โ€œbootlegโ€ on the dancefloor. Reality is, I was spinning a Test Press of an original and affordable record (no need to outline in here seller, venues it was played before, etc.). Think I should have been asked the question in the first instance instead. Asker would have received a friendly and honest answer, and some more details about it. This farce has been highly disrespectful, in my personal opinion. Firstly to the dancers, enjoying themselves listening to the music and not to some random someone, shouting in the middle of a dancefloor, as if the World Cup was won. Probably they didn't even care about it. Disrespectful to my team, with whom I partner and work along with very well - in particular I think to who invites me regularly, putting a lot of trust and caring of me as a friend first, and for the music then. And lastly disrespected me, music passionate, and humble person. Whoโ€™s done it, already went twice through my boxes. Should have known what I own, my taste, etc. I am no soul police, nor Iโ€™m interested in getting involved with this kind of debates. I donโ€™t care and I donโ€™t judge what people play on their sets (OVO, reissues, boots, Mexican tostadas, pizzas, a piadina, porcelain dishes, re-vulcanised tyres, etc.) โ€“ their decision. Iโ€™m a friendly person who collects records. Someone likes me and/or my music, other donโ€™t. Thatโ€™s life. Iโ€™m wasting my time writing this to put hands forward, just in case bulls*it rumours have been spread out for my future, if thereโ€™s any. Becauseโ€ฆ In this mad and sometimes sad world, itโ€™s so easy nowadays for people to shout angry (in person and on social media) to destroy reputations, to influence impressions on people you maybe donโ€™t even know and make you basing your future personal interactions on this rubbish. Being passionate is great, but extreme willyw@ving might lead to (as in this case) willyw@nking. Peace & Love & Sausage Rolls
  14. Here's a bit of useful info taken from The George website. George's is on Parkside - just 2 minutes' walk up the road from the bus station.๐Ÿ™‚
  15. Here are a couple of pics - tables have been moved to clean the floor, but it gives an idea of the place ๐Ÿ™‚

Soul Brew have spent the last couple of months or so looking around for new venue for our soul nights (we've looked at LOADS & LOADS & LOADS!) and now we think we've finally found the perfect place for us! Our new home is at George's in Cleckheaton - the upstairs function room is set in the amazing Mead Hall. It has bags of character; a warm & welcoming atmosphere, with seating around the decent-sized dance floor, plus some nice little nooks & crannies for seating. There is also a private car park & there will be menus available at the bar for food from the downstairs bistro. Oh & the bar prices are good too - drinks promos will be available on the night! ๐Ÿป๐Ÿท Nearby hotels are:- Gomersal Park Hotel; Healds Hall Hotel; Days Inn; The Liversedge, or Woodlands Guest House. (all within 2 miles) The George is also very easy to find - just up the road from Cleckheaton bus station & facing onto the park. So far it's a big thumbs-up for George's! The DJs will be playing their usual mix of Northern stompers, Motown dancers, 60s club soul & up-tempo R&B, along with a sprinkling of rare & underplayed tunes thrown in for good measure. All aimed to keep the dancers happy & the floor busy - bring your dancing shoes! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Record dealers always welcome๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Card payments are accepted at the bar, but cash only on the door please.๐Ÿ™‚ โญโญโญ!NEWSFLASHโญโญโญ OUR GUEST DJ JONAH HAS JUST ACCEPTED OUR INVITATION TO TAKE A TRIP OVER FROM HIS HOMETOWN OF GOOLE TO SPIN A FEW TUNES FOR US! ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บBRING IT ON JONAH!!!!๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽง๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ

A night of ATB soul - 7.00 on the door (5.00 members) Top notch sprung wooden dance floor & reasonably priced bar.
  18. Hi all - Kath here. Well - where do I start? All the DJs played storming sets for Soul Brew's final event at Low Moor Club, with some cracking tunes played - thanks & well done to Marc Silverside, Stuart Eastwood & guest DJ Jeff Robinson - you smashed it guys! It was sad to see the sound system being packed up at the end of the night for the last time at the club, but at the same time great to have such good feedback from the dancers, all insisting that Soul Brew keep everyone informed as to where our new venue will be. The answer to that is that we're still looking, but as soon as we find a new home with a decent dance floor we'll be shouting it from the rooftops! Hope you all have a great Christmas & New Year - watch this space for the next instalment of Soul Brew's adventures!
  19. Here are the DJ times for Saturday night:- 8.00 - 8.30 Marc Silverside 8.30 - 9.00 Stuart Eastwood 9.00 - 9.45 Jeff Robinson (Bradford's Soul on Sunday) 9.45 - 10.15 Marc Silverside 10.15 - 11.00 Jeff Robinson 11.00 - 11.30 Stuart Eastwood 11.30 - end Marc & Stuart double decking ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ See you on the dance floor! ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ
  20. "Really looking forward to this- making the most of our last night at the Low Moor.. sad to see it go as a venue and appreciate all the soul nights that went before.. letโ€™s do it justice and give it some. Iโ€™ll be bringing some new tunes to my box from recent crate digging in Detroit, a few rarer tunes and some that you donโ€™t hear played out much. And weโ€™re looking forward to hearing top selector Jeff Robinson spinning the tunes" Well said Marc - the sale of the club will be such a sad loss - not only to those of us who enjoy the soul nights there, but also to the Low Moor community too. ๐Ÿ˜ญ On a brighter note - can't wait to see what other goodies you've brough back from the States & also looking forward to finding a new home for the Soul Brew decks!
  21. Make sure you don't miss the last ever soul do at The Low Moor - it'll be a cracker! ๐Ÿ™‚ Everybody welcome - old friends & new faces too. We're still no wiser as to when the sale of the club will be all done & dusted & The Low Moor will finally close it's doors for good, but I suspect it will be shortly after the New Year. Here at Soul Brew we've been very busy shopping around for a new home for our soul nights - we've looked at quite a few, but still not found the right place yet - watch this space!! See you on the dance floor!! ๐ŸŽง ๐ŸŽต ๐Ÿท ๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ’ƒ ๐Ÿ•บ
  22. I saw Ike & Tina live at The Wheel back in the 1960s - they just blew the roof off - absolutely brilliant!! The Wheel was quite a small venue with the tiniest of stages, so the audience were literally inches away from the bands. The artists sometimes used the same bar (non-licensed of course lol) as the rest of us & we would often get chatting to them while waiting to be served, so it was a bit like seeing your mates on stage. Never did get to actually meet Ike & Tina, but I was lucky enough to chat to quite a few other artists who played there. Didn't realize just how lucky we were at the time! Happy days - I'd do it all again in an instant!
  23. That's so sad to hear - he was one of the founding fathers of the soul scene - I saw him a few times at The Wheel way back in the 1960s. Lovely guy & a proper gent. RIP Soul man๐Ÿ˜ข
