To me it is simple, Northern Soul is what makes me get of my backside and get on the dance floor at a beat faster than two stepping. That would exclude some records that others seem to think to fit the bill because it was played by a big name DJ.

A bit late to the question, however, there are many records that stood out amongst some absolute dross DJ's were pushing out to find the latest big sound at venues in the 70s but that is what was going on at that time. The dross has been dropped, quite rightly and what is left is what defines Northern Soul to me. Most have already been mentioned but the one that stood out to me and will always take be back to those halcyon days, sung with the passion I felt for the scene; The Four Perfections - I'm Not Strong Enough However, we will never get the Northern Soul Scene back as it was, it was more than the music.

Totally agree, I know I also went places but don't remember where apart from the usual we all went to in the early seventies. The other thing is the number of photos people seem to have. The only one I have is of me at the Catacombs, we never took a camera anywhere and only had one that night as it was the last one.
