  1. My god that's a tidy list of records mate. He's a bloomin dark horse that Ingham fella.
  2. Baz after last months 22 DJ, 3 Rooms, 12 Hour Marathon, I'll bet this months session is like a walk in the park,😜 having said that you always make it look easy.
  3. The main club for rare soul in Bolton was The Cromwellian Club (The Crom), The small upstairs room was were all the rare soul was played like Mickey Lee Lane, Mitch Rider "Breakout" Bobby Freeman "I'll never fall in love again" The Prophets "I got the fever" etc. The main DJ was Phil Coventry, rumour had it he didn't even have a record player at home to play all of his top sounds on. I can't remember what night of the week was best but it had quite a good reputation for all of the Bolton & Farnworth soul lads and lasses.
  4. Mike asked the question if anybody from John Manship Records is reading any of this, then why don't they get in touch with their customer, they could do this via Soul Source I'm sure. In the past whenever something unfavourable has been posted on here against JM, somebody connected to the company has been quick to respond to it, are they're still a member?.
  5. Peter how can you say that when you didn't even buy anything. I did and received my order within 2 days but if I'd splashed out a lot of money and was still waiting for an update I'd be bloody annoyed about it.
  6. The Winans "Let my people go" was filling UK dancefloors 40years ago. Wonderful albums by Be Be & Ce Ce Winans have featured on Richard Searling, Mike Shaft and many other soul shows over the years.
  7. Bloody heck, I've just spilt my coffee all over my laptop reading this flyer. A very interesting description of forthcoming acts Carl Douglas & Jimmy James & The Vagabonds
  8. The last time I saw Mick H DJ was at Lifeline and he played United Sounds to a very responsive crowd. I wonder If he'll have this with him.
  9. Robbo always loved playing or dancing to this twofer at Lowton from Toby Lark.
  10. You're probably right considering the event is spread over 12 hours.
  11. Mick, are you one of the lucky ones, does your copy have clean labels or like mine water damaged. I'm just thinking, now you've mentioned The Delegates of Soul does that mean you've licked your finger and stuck it in the Delegates of Soul pie and claimed it as your play this Saturday.😂 It's a sure fire floor filler so well played mate.👍👏
  12. Hi Kev, I usually joke with Simon that he only plays records by vocalists with big (I usually use a naughty word here}. so the girlie tunes are a big thumbs up from me.👍
  13. That's what he did with mine.
  14. 👏 Baz, I see Saturday afternoon is modern soul classics, this one always packed the floor back in the day, played off the Rise of the Phoenix LP and still sounds fantastic.👏
  15. I felt honoured to be in such good company as some of the other classic cover up names like The Phantom Janitor, Syder Turner & The Webs, Robert L Martin etc..😂😜🤣 Do you think he was taking the p?🤔
  16. Thanks Mike for that, I'm thinking the Mayfield Singers instrumental was played NYE 2000/01 and the vocal 11 months later?, from the review of the night though it seems Irish Greg was the one that played it 👍
  17. Baz, on the subject of Paul Shirley do you remember the time we stood behind him on the stage in the main room when he played The 4 Tops & The Supremes for the first time and we both looked at each other, I think you'd ordered a few copies from a Lebanese record shop even before the record had finished playing. 😆 If I'm not mistaken I think Rob Haigh bought a copy off you as well.
  18. I remember Paul Shirley playing The Turnpikes "Cast a spell" in Lowtons back room one night and I thought I'll ring my go to guy for anything rare soul wise Ian "Del Boy" Cunliffe first thing Monday. Yes I have a copy stuck on my wall he said., thankfully he sold it to me including the blue tack with some of the wall plaster still stuck to it as well 😂 Unbelievably it plays great.
  19. Did they have a Northern Soul wedding reception whether they wanted one or not. Do I love you indeed I do.🫶
  20. That's his first request from me then.👌
  21. Rob If Prince Timothy of Todmorden thinks it was Dave Flynn then who am I to disagree.
  22. I'm rubbish with dates but I'm pretty certain the instrumental was played by Chris King first at Lowton that night. For some reason I have it in my head that Neil Rushton had something to do with the discovery of the vocal but I'm not 100% certain.
  23. Kev that's not quite correct, I bought a record off Discogs that wasn't on his own site. I wanted to check the quality of the record on his player but it wasn't there.
  24. About this time every year, whenever the Lowton anniversary is mentioned and the hundreds of brilliant records that were played there, there's always one that stands out for me, well actually there's two. The instrumental was played by Chris King to an absolutely packed dancefloor at the Lowton New Year allnighter. A few weeks later came the vocal. It was mind blowing, like hearing The Vibrations "Cause your mine" for the very first time at the Torch.
