  1. What a patronising reply and you have no idea what my background was back then. I had no idea that you only wanted back slapping replies that agreed with your point of view. I think that you believe that a DJ is there to play what they want and not what the audience want ! A classic mistake made my many people on the different scenes. I DJ,d every week throughout the seventies and eighties and didn't buy anything you mentioned never mind never heard of most of them, despite owning more than 5000 singles by the mid eighties. Clearly what was popular here in the north was not what you talked about. It still is as I know when I DJ which I still do. I appreciate that my music is not yours but I am not narrow minded about music at all but my preferences differ from yours and no problem with that. I regularly see Martin from Inspiral Carpets but his music is not my cup of tea but I respect his choices. You don't even talk about needing door staff and an anti drugs policy or what the police or council will want or require. I think you are living in cloud cuckoo land. So if you only want replies that agree with your own version then you should have said so in post one and show some respect for other views that differ from your own.
  2. personally , NO the NO ALCOHOL policy wouldnt bother me, there is a soul venue in Blackburn in a hall which is a BYO or tea and coffee and water from the "bar" or canteen but I would not attend at all based on that music policy, no idea who any of them were never mind the records and too old to change I dont even know anyone who would go to a venue playing whatever you said above in post #1 , although I am sure that you think its attractive to some people, each to their own I suppose. the 23.30 finish wouldnt appeal either

  12. I have just ordered 2 records on discogs and the seller quoted $13.50 U.S. for one 45 , but has allowed the same for two 45,s in the same mailer so I agree with the generality of up to$15 U S quoted earlier, but it can also depend on the number of records in the parcel too People here in the UK tend to bid up until about MIDNIGHT to 1 AM GMT or BST at the latest , with weekends being busier for obvious reasons so in the USA thats going to be afternoon or evening due to timezones , so right about now in fact

  17. I have been to both and the MOTOWN/SOUL night is once a month on a saturday night , has mainly motown and soul but although the sixties do feature its not exclusively 60`s, plus some "northern" gets played if its popular or crossover , but they leave the grittier Northen soul for the first friday of the month "Northern Soul" night so mainly sixties and seventies soul and motown, mainly more well known tunes too, so is possibly what the OP is after both events are in the soul source planner and so are easily found

  19. having seen this thread if I want a boot of the Servicemen I can have one made , in MINT unplayed condition for say £20 (which I actually do have) checking discogs for example shows no entry for that record at all under the Magicians , just the Servicemen the boot comes under this link https://www.discogs.com/The-Magicians-Sweet-Magic-Connie/release/4768985 I fail to see how a boot (if its a boot with incorrect words) can be worth that price , especially as I have seen boots of it for not much more than the price of a cheap carver
  20. Soundsokeh replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
Connect a record player stereo output to a laptop or PC soundcard input and use a program like audacity to record to wav or similar. Also use it to top and tail each recording . then use a free CD writing program like cdburnerXP to import the recordings and write to a cdr
