  1. it's cheaper now mace, i'd imagine that they're talking about when it first started getting played and there was massive demand for it. obviously turned out in the end to be not that rare...but it could have been with the label etc.... First heard it played by Roger Banks late 90s and got one straight away. Still love it.
  2. It is a brilliant version of Burning spear, I'll second that! His jazz LPs for Blue Note are nice too and had original covers designerd by andy warhol, who, according to my local Yellow Pages, is now a Paver based in Mosborough. F**king unbelievable miss-assumption really, i've noticed loads of mistakes in RC over the years...they seem to know about rare psych & prog rock and big artists (for which they just hire in the worlds most top nerdy one-artist obsessives for info), bunch of clowns. When you actually know a bit about a subject and see what bullshit is written about it, it makes you wonder how much bullshit you read and take as fact about subjects you know little about.
  3. Why not just play it on 45 though? Davie, obviously Big maybelle came out on 45, but dont know the other track you played, is it 78 only? Are there any proper playable (as in would go down well at an r&b club dancefloor wise) tracks that are 78 only?
  4. Are all the Sherri Taylor's on PG boots then?! cos i've seen them go for more than the Gloreco copies , and was told it was a rarer release, even though I never believed there's be a smaller label release than Gloreco!
  5. It's a £450+ record all day now, definitely. Missed about 10 over the years, not one went for less than £400, one on Manships few weeks ago must have gone for over £500. The 60s comp it's on is called Boogaloo! and is on Brent for some reason, with a load of Brenton Wood stuff. Not sure how that came about.
  6. first heard John Kelly play it at the Hideaway (I think) but had no idea of value so didn't know what to bid when one came up, hence not winning it. Now I have some idea of the demand / price, I'll pay accordingly, as always.
  7. Hi, Willie J Charles 'feelin kinda Lonesome' on Glad Hamp. WP up to £200 depending on condition. thanks, recordmik@btinternet.com
  8. £150?
  9. It's about £40 - £50, but have had them cheaper on ebay. Good record but he's done better, but i'm not telling cos i'm after it. It's earl 'king' connelly on the label, dont know if he recorded as earl king.
  10. Like any record, it depends how it would sell if priced at £50. If it was listed and went straight away and 10 more people phoned for it, then it's not a 50 quidder any more. I'm not saying that would happen with this, but demand for records can go up within a few months these days. I dont know much about Northern but R&B like this and records such as Bobby Adams 'what a mess', Freddy Butler 'Pitter Patter', Banny Price on Jewel have gone from £30-40 records that only a few people knew to £150 records within a year, i expect similar things happen on the northern scene? Sign of healthy interest if you ask me - some you're on early, some you're on late and have to pay for. Lots of great records get stuck around the £20-50 mark untill people start to play them and other people start to know and want them. only when there's a certain amount of demand do you find out how rare a record really is I guess.
  11. Hi Moldie, sorry mate, got offered one before you posted and taking it but i'll post what i have of it up, you might get an offer, or I might know someone who wants it and get back to you, Looks like that ebay price was a bit OTT then. Quality r&b though cheers, mik
  12. cheers, that's what i thought, been told it's not that hard a few times. Well, even more reason to offload your copy for a good price people
  13. thought i bid way over the top for the Crystals - i got a man (united artists) but still lost it . Is it worth $350? Anyway, if it is and someone wants to offload one while it's hot, I'll pay a good price for it, just think - it'll probably be worth $50 in a couple of years, sell! sell! cheers mik recordmik@btinternet.com
  14. I agree, Carlton Basco is similar - funky but soulful. In a similar vein, I'm still after a copy of Billy Storm 'apologize' on Le Mans if anyone wants to sell one
  15. I thought he meant 'what have i got now' too, as it does go for £100, sells quick, and is the far better of the two.
  16. like 'ouch', which is truely excellent for it's price.
  17. i've got the one wih chicken back on the B side, but I want the one with goldminer, as its a good track too, whereas chicken back is crap. I'd swap my mint one + some money for that issue. In the end it's a good version of Twine Time, but not vastly different or better than the original imo. It also came out on a Seeburg ep too. seen it go very cheap on ebay in the last few years, the Goldminer release seems to be the rarest. Not having a dig, cos i didn't know much different at the time, but Keb Darge compiled it on one of his compilations and in the sleeve notes i'm sure he wrote 'the only recording by this obscure band'. of all the one off funk records to say this about...these lot must have made more records than elvis!
  18. the tam-boo release came out with red and blue labels and are different musically in some way, or so i was told. I'd say it's an £80 record because it has a sound that doesn't fit into to many scenes although it's great. you dont see it much anymore but there'll be a few in funk collections.
  19. I first heard it in a soundfile from Michael Robinson, who never said how rare or what price it was. I thought it was great then, I think it's great now- it's got a definite extra x-factor over loads of records of it's type and sounds great played out loud. I was only gutted to hear of it's price and the Sam debacle, cos i wanted it. But then It fits right in with what i play, I didn't buy it to catch up with anyone, as demand on the Northern scene means nothing to me, i bought it to play with other good rhythm & soul at mod do's, where it's been appreciated.
  20. I've got it cheers mate, but at £300 would have a couple more for people i know who want it. Demand far exceeds supply on this I thought, but maybe demand isn't that high, \i dont know. it certainly hasn't 'turned up' yet, all the copies that surfaced were from collections no?
  21. I'll have a couple of wendel westerns at £300, where are they?
  22. LP about £75. The 45 is very rare - it never got issued. I'd pay over £100 for it, hard to say how many people want it though...
  23. cool! i just want it to be heard, hope it's popular, can't see it not being, It's one the soulies at mod do's always ask me about! I think if you hear it loud, all the way through, it really comes into it's own.
  24. I've got a great & apparently rare r&b track on a label called Douglas by Kathryn Hughes. Label looks totally different to that though.
  25. out of interest: is it staying within the northern scene? i understand if you dont want to say, i just hope it's going to be heard by a big audience.
