Rocksteady Rarities and Ska Rarities are a must buy! If you look on Amazon you can get them for about 6 quid too! Gordy
  3. Will do mate, won't be for another few weeks yet as just forked out the best part of a grand on a new computer.... Gordy
  4. It sure is Simon me old mucker, how's it going? My lass is called Sam(antha) but she ain't a soulie (yet!). She likes a bit of Motown etc but her main favourite music is cheesy chart crap. Gordy
  5. Got a link to it in the Soul Of Jamaica section mate. Gordy
  6. My new lass is from Grimsby mate, expect to see me at dos in Cleethorpes, Doncaster, Scunny, Hull etc in the near future hopfefully! Oh and I don't post much about NS as I'm a commander in chief of the Evil Ska Alliance Gordy
  7. "Let Me Be Your Boy" has more of a Latin tango feel to the rhythm IMO. So go past Jamaica a couple hundred miles and turn left Oh, and sorry for being a pedantic git but ska and bluebeat are one and the same. Bluebeat is just a "nickname" given to ska at the time by the UK music press as a good percentage of the tunes were on the Bluebeat label. There ARE dedicated forums to ska and reggae already. I run one of the biggest and best. Gordy
  8. If it wasn't for my love of Jamaican music I'd never have become a Northern Soul lover at all. There was a tune called "Queen Majesty" written by a C.Mayfield. As a young 20 something reggae lover I was intrigued as I'd never heard of Curtis Mayfield. I bought a double CD of his on MCA called the Anthology 1961-77, asked for similar stuff - the bloke in the record shop said "you wanna try Major Lance or Gene Chandler mate" and the rest is history. Loads of people love soul as well as reggae, the Jamaicans love their soul - hence all the covers of soul tunes. Gordy
  9. First of all a blatant plug for my own forum - 2 years old in December. 500+ members and counting. https://www.djgreedyg.proboards77.com Next one is the Pama Forum, started off as a forum for chat about Pama labels and is now one of the best forums for chat about mostly skinhead reggae. (The lads and lasses who are into just 68-71 reggae hang out here): https://s7.invisionfree.com/PAMA_FORUM/index.php Studio Won site, which doesn't seem to have been updated for a while but is still a great site: https://www.studiowon.com/studiowon/home.htm Next one is Rastaites - if you ignore the "Jah Jah" stuff (or you can read it if you love all reggae like me) you'll find probably the best what's on guide for ska and reggae there is: https://rastaites.com/home.html Now for Skaville from Germany, an essential (if not quite complete) guide to Jamaican covers of (mostly) American tunes: https://www.skaville.de/ Finally (for now), The Jammin Reggae Archives, a portal to hundreds of other Jamaican music sites: https://www.niceup.com/ Gordy

Check the smiley guv! I've asked over at my forum. There's guys on there like Bob Brooks, Phil Etgart and Mike Atherton (who writes for Record Collector). One of those chaps should know where's theres a copy, helped me with plenty of tunes.

Could always do a carver from the Trojan R&B Box Set

Haven't seen this on any sites/lists and just checked 20 odd sites plus half a dozen mail outs that I get. I'd have a guess at around 20 to 30 quid "on paper" and God knows how much on EBay cos prices are heading towards NS territory for some ska and rocksteady tunes nowadays. I'll ask over on my own forum if anyone's got one. Some dealers and big time collectors over there. Gordy
  14. My two loves together at last in perfect (three part) harmony Nice one chaps! Now go forth and check the goodness people!!! Gordy
  15. Can I stick a few ska/reggae links in here mate? Gordy

Oh and feedback would be nice, don't have to kiss me feet or owt - a simple "great track mate" or "that's crap" will do!

Anything you lads and lasses would like to hear, give me a shout and I might have it, I don't have everything mind but I'll do my best. (Pete mate, can you make this a thread in all sub-sections - cheers!) Gordy
  18. That Dawn Penn track is one of my all time fave rock steadies mate. Nice One! Gordy
  19. I love NS and always will but the actual scene I can take it or leave it. I was out a couple of times a month from 2000 to 2005 but I've been to three soul nights in the last two years. Poor health and financial problems have contributed to that but even if I was well and had plenty of dosh I don't think I'd be going to that many dos now as I'm tired of politics and attitudes (which funnily enough have creeped into the ska and reggae scene now too!).. Gordy
  20. Thanks Tony Will look out for them, can't get enough of the Latin stuff with a soulful groove. Gordy
  21. What time and day does your show air JJ? Is it online? I'll check it out. Thanks Gordy
  22. I love this style of music and you can't go wrong with the Mod Jazz series on Kent. My own faves are a bit predictable: Smokey Joe's La La - Googie Rene Combo Sack Of Woe - Ray Bryant Combo Jericho - Booker T & The MGs My Train - Merl Saunders Brother Ray - Willis Jackson Then you have early 60s Latin Boogaloo stuff like Mongo Santamaria's "Yeh Yeh", "Get The Money" etc Can anyone point me in the direction of other Mod Jazz/Latin artists/CDs to be looking out for? I've got all the easy to get stuff like Mongo, Ray Barretto, Joe Bataan, Wille Bobo, Pucho and the various comps that appeared on labels like Harmless in the mid to late 90s. Cheers Gordy
  23. Okay, eventually found where to go nowadays and popped a few tunes into the rock steady section. Enjoy! Gordy
  24. I'm a listener. The first time I tried to do a spin, I toppled over and ripped ligaments in my ankle! I'm sure some people may remember it, was at Loughborough Uni about seven years ago. Gordy
  25. Soulful Jamaica? It worked for one of my podcasts! Gordy
