  1. A lovely smiley woman as I remember, as Kev says she was at Motown Museum as a guide when we visit in 2009, she and Lorraine Chandler showed us around giving us all a glimpse into the world of how Motown worked, laughing when she showed us the small bright Tangerine Orange vinyl sofa where the Great Mr Gaye slept after boxing records through the night for distribution the next day and how he lay in the funeral parlour next door after his death and that everyone in between takes would slip out to pay their respects. I also remember that they all (Motown artists etc) at The Memphis Smoke Diner after, it was her Birthday & the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to her, together with Mel Britt singing along with "She'll come running back" & the Capitols after much persuasion sing "Cool Jerk" acapella along with an excited & appreciative crowd of Brit's etc sang along. Memories hey & the pulled Pork wasn't bad either. Spot.
  2. Bloody hell that brings back memories, was only trying the other day who sang it. Spot.

Geese we've (Gail & I) have always been of the same opinion but in reality there aren't enough who think the same, Lifeline etc are lucky if they attract 250, back in the early Cleethorpes era when, God forbid, new releases were played it was sacrilege and we were called Disco Bunny's or Queens. There definitely aren't enough younger people on the scene and those who are, tend to be following their parents etc and are into Oldies (Which of course they aren't to them) and want to dress as if it was 1973 and for some it's just a passing faze. I'm afraid this debate will run on and on and on. Gail and i recently read a Blues & Soul from 73/74 in which she was interviewed and said, "We need to stop playing all these Oldies and move the music forward", she also mention the Older Soulies, who at that time would have been no more than 5 or 6 years older than us, as was the music they were playing, unlike today when the age gap is 30 yrs + and the music 40 yrs old, so it's a never ending circle. Seems we've been down this road numerous times before, why not try an original idea and use your imagination, isn't that what fiction writers do? If however you want to write a factual based story then I'm sure there's plenty of the Old Guard would be willing to help with research but not real names and I doubt it would get past the Censor or anyone would actually believe it, because I'm sure I wouldn't and I/we were there and it now seems somewhat dream like!!!!!!!!!!! Spot.
  5. 2 Top tunes, Larry Laster was a Monster tune and I can't choose between that and Ty Karim. Spot. Another excellent track and a more recent one to my ear, sounds better now Patto because we've slowed down a tad but the A sides a Classic we were all spoon fed and it was so sweet. Kev I like that, sounds like a lot of stuff from that era but it brings out the Disco side of me and the productions always A ok. Spot. Spot.
  6. Excellent tune Martyn & it reminds me of some venue, the only trouble is at my age I can't remember which bloody venue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spot.
  7. Didn't know Tony well but talked when he went to Rugby & I think Gail & Donna use to keep him entertained with their double act, he was a nice guy from what I knew & saw and a big part of the scene, RIP Tony. Spot & Gail.

  11. Macca your not allowed to mention 70's music, it heresy, punishable by ridicule & people saying "Disco" a lot or prancing about like a Prima Ballerina btw I love it all, Yours Rudolf Nureyev Rodgers.
  12. Lee Mitchell I still love & listen to regularly, short life span, remember it at Cleethorpes but could have originated fro Mecca. Spot.

Is it Hank Marvin backed by The Dave Clark Five? I love GOOD instrumentals and there's so many I can't be bothered to list them, don't know why no one gives em a spin? Maybe cos they don't know the words!!!!!! Spot.
  17. That told us then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spot.
  18. It's a tough world and if us old has beens can't give em grief, cos we've bin there and done it, then who can and it's the only bit of fun some of us get now a days btw I think Pete S must becoming a bit softer and mellow, saying it's just a bit of fun, come on Pete Growl, you know you want to and Billy Whizz just loves everyone, which you can when your the face of "This England", and why put it up on YT if you don't want ridiculing, youth I hate em, they're so YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spot.
  19. Winnie that's not until lesson 3, after 2 where you swear allegiance, loyalty and love to Emperor Russ of Wigonia.
  20. Every cloud etc. p.s. Most of em look like they're already on strong medication.
  21. It's a keep fit class with Motown/Northern Music as a back drop SURELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If not the organisers want f**kin with a rag mans trumpet followed by a barbed wire pull through, some people will do anything for the green and have no shame. Spot.
  22. But Rod those lovely Black Ladies actually look cool doing it & have rhythm & style, unlike the Uk versions that look like the Douglas Bader dance troop. Spot. p.s. i've just watched it again and I love em all, they're just so COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Zoot you misunderstand I never said or implied you were a Baggy Pants Soulie, in fact I never mentioned pants at all, what I meant was I avoid anyone advertising NS when I'm on holiday or shopping or in a pub, Gail my Wife will tell you I'm an antisocial sod anyway on holiday and just about manage to talk to her. Spot.
  24. Zoot I'm afraid I'm totally opposite to that statement, if I see a NS bag, T-Shirt/Polo Shirt or anything linked to NS whilst I'm on holiday or out, then I give em a wide berth, because usually they have recently found it via the Media, want to be cool as it's the new black, pretend they went to Wigan but really only managed the local WMC & Youthie or they're too tight to buy some nice holiday shirts, so wear what they wear every weekend. Spot the shrivelled & wrinkled one, like Yoda but with some lovely holiday shirts.
