  1. Excellent Andy. Out of the four I mentioned I think this is my favourite. KTF. Drew.
  2. Any chance of a sound clip Malc or would that knacker-up you giving it an airing at a do? KTF. Drew.
  3. Awesome!!! Don't care what its label is meant to be that is cracking mid-tempo soul to me and it would certainly have me on the dance floor if heard out!!! More please, more (with sound clips). KTF. Drew.
  4. The Persians track is cracking Jobbo/ Steve. Any one else able to post sound clips of the others I mentioned? Or alternatively, anyone willing to PM me an idiots guide to how I can play the CD on ITunes and then transfer onto here and then turn it into the format the site prefers etc? KTF. Drew.
  5. Someone has just lent me this Goldmine Soul Supply CD. I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I was pleasantly suprised and am hooked on playing the excellent; I'm Standing In The Shadows....The Five Royales, Gee What A Girl....The Persians, My Baby Doesn't Love Me Anymore....The Travelers, and Love Will Break Your Heart....The Starfires. I'm sure lots on here have the CD. What are your views of this compilation? Are any of these getting an airing anywhere? Being computer dumb I am unable to post up sound clips of these records so if someone could kindly oblige. KTF. Drew.

Thursday night just gone, in from the pub around midnight and the only thing on the box of interest was an old episode of Never Mind The Buzzcocks with Mark Lamar, on one of the digital channels. The guests included Mark Owen from Take That, Johnny Vagas and that Kim what's her face who's now in Corry. In the section where they have to guess from a line up they had a guy who fronted a 60's group. Black and white clip, cracking sounding tune. Anyone able to name the group and tune please? It was a 'someone and the somethings' type of name. KTF. Drew.
  9. Not new to me as it's on The Soulclub Jukebox and I fell for it a year or so back. Absolutely cracking tune and one I would love to hear (and dance to) out. What is on the other side? KTF. Drew.
  10. Absolutely wonderful reading. The personal experiences of those who knew this guy is what I hoped would follow the questions I asked. Just as fascinating as the record searching tales of those who went out and did it. I don't wish to detract from the posts that have quite rightly pointed out that Simon Soussan caused a lot of grief to a lot of people. That is their experience and no amount of gloss will cover it up. However, I guess there have always been scoundrels in the entertainment buisness and I wonder if many of the artistes that we adore would hold up to some close scrutiny. In the film Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, band members recount the antics of one of their own (his name escapes me) who ripped various people off but those who remembered him did so with some fondness. The stories retold so far about Simon Soussan are part and parcel of the history of the scene and I for one wish to hear more. Thanks to all those who have posted in reply, whatever your dealings with the man were. KTF. Drew.
  11. Not sure if I once posted a question about Simon Soussan on here before or maybe I intended to. Anyway here goes: As a teenager in the 70's I was aware of this man's involvement with the NS scene. I knew he was an importer/dealer of soul records (weren't many of those record bundles from his company?). I think I was aware then that his name was linked with the 'booting' of records. I now know that he was a record producer as well or maybe even first. Whatever his 'profession' was there does seem to be some mystique about this character. I guess many on here actually knew him but to me his is a mysterious name from my youth. I've trawled some old postings on here and when Simon Soussan's name crops up it is generally a negative comment. Was he such a villain? One thread from 05 which was looking for the 'Gurus of Soul' has someone placing Simon Sousan in the top ten list! Others were astounded at this! So: Where was he from and what was his background in soul music? What contributions did he make to the scene, good or bad? Where did he go and what finished his involvement with the NS scene? Is he still involved in music production? Is he still alive? Seems to me that the man has his place in the NS Hall of Fame one way or another. Anyone willing to share their knowledge of this clearly controversial figure and stories of their involvement with him? KTF. Drew.

I have no idea but I am ready to take the stand and lie through my teeth for you! KTF. Drew.
  13. Fair enough Steve, but which records are the ones that you would say fit this bill, and are those records presently being played out anywhere as far as you know? KTF. Drew.
  14. On various threads on SS, posts often refer to the 'present big ticket numbers'. This often comes up in discussions such as the one recently about if you had £500 to spend. This phase obviously refers to records presently costing lots of money, possibly 100's or even 1,000's of pounds. Also, there sometimes seems to be a 'they are only popular beacause they cost so much' tag to these tunes. But what are these records at present? What record being aired at the moment fits this bill? Sound files of the the records suggested would be appreciated (not for any dubious reasons such as copying, but only so this 'knownowt' can hear the tunes bring referred to). KTF. Drew.

IMO, You've Been So Wonderful To Me is an excellent record which shows how well DR could sing without being surrounded by loads of Instumental noise. I've always thought that her records get a poor deal from the scene. Nice to hear some underplayed (i.e not Baby Love) Supremes being played at the odd do I've been to recently. I've said this before and I'll say it again, IMHO Diana Ross had a better singing voice than Martha Reeves and maybe Berry Gordy thought so to, but I'm sure someone will put me right with the history/politics of Motown at the time. KTF. Drew.
  16. I can bring up the page from this link but nothing happens. Any advice? KTF. Drew.
  17. Wishing everyone on SS a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. From Drew, The Gary Glitter fan, the lad and the daughter. KTF.

Wishing Pete a speedy recovery. KTF. Drew.
  20. I know some are there already Mark but any chance of some future shows being added to the music section of this site? I like to listen at work to those shows already there and some new ones would be brilliant! KTF. Drew.

I've taken to taking a CD of my own on such occasions and more often than not the DJ has played a few that I have asked for. If they are not too obscure for the average party goer and have a Motown feel/sound then folks usually keep dancing especially if they are mixed in with sh*te such as Jimmy Mack and Third Finger. I can usually get the likes of In My Lonely Room; I Got A Feeling; Open The Door To Your Heart and Love Runs Out, played. The Gary Glitter Fan thinks I'm a sad bas*ard as I have now taken to giving them points for their efforts before I accost and mither them!! KTF. Drew.

Thanks Chrissie. Will keep this in mind if I can get a few of the blokes to give it a wirl. KTF. Drew.
  23. Not sure of the exact the way to phrase this question but I think you will get my drift. Anyone got a soul/NS record on it's origional label that has become a top tune; well known on the scene; rarity; regular play or whatever, that they bought themselves in the sixties/seventies from a record shop at the time of the tunes first release and not from a dealer or digging around in boxes etc later? Clearly this would apply to the older end of collector/soul fan on here and maybe (or maybe not) only to those living in the States at the time. If this a stupid question my coat is ready and waiting!! KTF. Drew.

...........nights in (or near) Llangolen North Wales this weekend? Going on a golf weekend there tomorrow so don't fancy playing cards all night in the hotel with some of the 'stick in the muds' on the trip! If no soul then any good pubs with a bit of live music nearby? I know it's deepest, darkest North Wales so no 'some cnut from Preston' nights please! Don't want any 'wild goose chases/long journeys also as that would use up too much precious boozin' time. Don't want much do I!! KTF. Drew.
  25. I've only approached you once Mr Bicknell and that was at my one and only time (so far) at the Orwel. I asked you for And In Return by Sheila Ferguson and you told me that you didn't have it. You were very polite but I did get the impression that you wanted to be alone!! Sugar!! As I type this I have realised that it may have been Neil Jones I asked to play that tune!!!!!!!! He was also very nice in sending me packing!!!!!!!! Arn't we punters what it's all about?!!!!!!!!!!!! KTF. Drew.
