Thanks Mark. Needs playing to a dance floor though. Anyone done so recently? Any chance of a sound clip of the flip side? KTF. Drew.

Just been listening to The Soulclub Jukebox....... Little Ben and The Cheers.......I'm Gonna Get Even With You. Excellent tune. Any info please.......Label...where first played, if at all ...does it get played out anywhere now etc? Good dancer IMHO. KTF. Drew.
  4. Even nearer mate. The Rat Pit, Bredbury. Have to honest even though the dance floor at the Rat Pit is bigger I prefer Denton as I think the acoustics at The Rat Pit don't do the records justice. Ignore the post from the early hours of this morning; the ramblings of a drunken man. All the best John. KTF. Drew.
  5. Went to my local soul do this evening. In the bogs I asked a mate who is (or was) a serious collector/DJ, if he had got something nice, record wise, from Santa? Jeeze! I'd walked into a right argument over boots being played! One DJ had resigned from doing further do's cos someone on the night had done the dreaded deed. I got my head chewed off for asking a simple, if not naive, question! Can't remmember what it was now. Spent some time with 'pissed off' mate/collector/DJ at the bar. Learnt loads. But to his annoyance the dance floor was full for the guy (allegedly) playing boots. More questions by me to said mate about what should and shouldn't be played kept producing the response "It's a minefield out there" (we had both had a good drink). This guy knows his stuff and has just sold £15,000 worth of records because he's disillusioned by the whole thing!!!! Not sure of the point that I was going to make now cos I'm pissed!! Just thought that I'd share my NS experience of the night. Feck. I'm gonna be in trouble with The Gary Glitter fan in the morning. Wishing you all a very drunken rest of the week and a very, very drunken and happy New Year. All the best. KTF. Drew.
  6. Will me mention alongside the Tempest tracks come at a later date then Mark? KTF. Drew.

Thanks Tabitha. Fecking awesome tune do you agree? KTF. Drew.
  9. Slightly off thread here I know Tone but seeing the South African Stateside record made me think of something a work colleague told me a while ago. My friend is white and was born in SA. She is in her late 40's. She told me that she didn't see television shows that we were used to or hear 'chart' music much until she came to England in her late teens. This was because the Aparthide system really did go over the top on censorship in the 60s and 70s. Interesting then that they allowed music by black artists to get into the shops! Just thought I'd share this. KTF. Drew.

Are there any tunes on the scene that were only ever demos? Not asking about records where only a demo has been found, with there being a strong possibilty of there being some issues out there somewhere. Question is more about there being those where it is known that the record never got a release because the radio stations didn't play it or whatever, therefore lots of demos but no issues. Can't decide if this question makes sense now!!!! Oh well. KTF. Drew.

Discounting Pinky and Perky, the first record I bought was Stoned Love by the The Supremes. The last was probably Open the door To Your Heart....Darrell Banks in 1975/6 just before I sold the modest collection I had to buy a Christmas present for a girl I was going out with. Could Pinky and Perky count as soul? I've heard worse on the scene! KTF. Drew.
  13. Abso ecking lutly! KTF Drew
  14. Chris. You might not remember this as all there were well oiled. The Three Greyhounds charity do earlier this summer. 3am.Stragglers getting in the mini-bus to go to the Travel Lodge and you and Ritchie kicked off: "Hey Mr Watson. Listen here what the lady told me. She said Larry, I'm sorry I gotta go, cos I found me a knew love that I love more." "I know that must have been a bitter pill for you to take" "Sure was man" "It make your poor heart wanna break" "That's what I told her" "You and your new love keep on keepin on, I know that lovin feelin is gone" "Toooo Late". "Way, too late baby" "Toooo Late" "You messed up your good thing. I'm through with you girl". "Tell her to keep that love man if that's what she call it, she'll have messed around and would have made you a alcoholic.; sorry about that" "I gave her my heart and she only used it, she took my love and she abused it" " You gotta find a girl that will treat you right, that'll give plenty of lovin' every night now" "That's what I told her" " You and your new love keep on keepin' on, I know that lovin' feelin is gone" " Toooo late" "Way too late baby" " Toooo late" "You messed up your good thing" "I'm through with you girl" " You can go on and find you somebody else, I can live cheaper by myself. Don't need no woman to help me starve to death. Can you dig it" " Hey Watson, dig this. This is what I told her. I dont want no one who don't love me, who keep on dishin' out misery" "You don't want nobody that don't treat you right, she got to love you every night" "Well dig this" "You and your new love, keep on keepin' on". " I know that lovin' feelin' is gone" "Tooo Late, way too late baby" "Tooo late" "You done messed up your good thing" "Tooo late" "Your ship has gone by baby" "I'm gonna find me sombody knew" "It's too late baby now" Feckin' brilliant! Been listening to the selection of Jerry's records on TSCJB this evening. Whilst I've heard most of them at some time or other I cannot remember having heard Find Another Girl or the excellent Stop Stepping On My Dreams. Either of them ever get an airing by you folks? KTF. Drew.

In My Lonely Room is excellent. Never heard it at a wedding and wouldn't put it in that catagory of Motown records such as Baby Love, and f***ing Jimmy Mack that have been played at every wedding, 40th etc. that I've ever been to!!! Well that might be an exaggeration. I don't now know if my imagination is getting the better of me but was IMLR played at Denton last Friday? KTF. Drew.
  21. Last night went to a brill night at Denton with a couple of mates who were 'soul do' virgins! Great night was had by all, but two of the party were a couple of young fellas who are in their twenties, who play on the football team that I run. Quote and best laugh of the night was when one of the said youngsters picked up a flyer advertising an 'oldies night' and said in absolute sincerity "f%*k. You mean there's a soul night with people who are older than this lot"!!! They had a great night mind you. Drunk at the very end of the night, one of them asked the DJ for some Led Zep!!! He was 'dropped' for today's match! KTF Drew.
