Calvin Leavy ....There's irony and then there is complete irony
I came across this info on Calvin Blues man and Producer from Arkanas and thought would share it Calvin James “Slim” Leavy, was born in Arkansas, USA, on April 20, 1940, he was 70-years-old when he died, June 6, 2010, One of Calvin Leavy's best known songs was about the state prison in southeast Arkansas. "They sent me to Cummins baby, down on Cummins Prison Farm..." Leavy was jailed for the last two decades of his life on drug charges. "Down there I started thinking, thought I'd tell you some of it in this song..." Prison spokeswoman Dina Tyler says he died Sunday afternoon... likely of complications from diabetes. I think there may had been some sad irony in that one of his more famous songs was Cummings Prison Farm which was recorded before he ever came to prison, and certainly before he was incarcerated at Cummings. He didn't spend much time at Cummings, less than a year, because of his ill health," Tyler said. Leavy had been convicted in 1992, accused of running a drug ring in Little Rock. As a result of his convictions, he was sentenced to life plus 25 years. In May of 2000, then Governor Huckabeen commuted his sentence to 75 years, which meant, had he lived, he would have been eligible for parole in just about a year," Tyler said.

Prince Shell..Chicago Musician and arranger
I was listening to Cookie Scott this morning and wondered who Prince Shell actually was A little digging found out this. I wondered if we can have some more of the stuff he was credited with please Eutrice Ulysses "Prince" Shell, accomplished musician, was born in Lott, Texas, USA, on December 31, 1928. He died on April 11 2007. He began playing piano as a child and later studied valve trombone at Chicago's DuSable High School with music educator and band director Walter Dyett. Shell honed his arranging skills while a member of the Tennessee State Collegians big-band at Tennessee State University and also at the Navy School of Music. During his service in the Air Force, Shell became "chief arranger" for the Strategic Air Command Band at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. He performed and toured with Gene Ammons and Gene McDaniels, and became the house pianist at Chicago's original Regal Theater where he appeared with Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, and others. Shell teamed up with Jesse Jackson and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1970 to arrange for and record their Operation Breadbasket Orchestra and Choir for Chess Records. Sun Ra and other nationally known musicians have performed and recorded his arrangements, and his works have been featured in concerts at the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music.

I was listening to this tune and after looking at the label decided to investigate further....please bear with me until the photos Peg Leg Bates was a well known "One-Legged Tap Dancer" his story is below...he owned the above label and is so famous in The USA What I loved so much was his final resting place grave stone (please read) and will make me smile all day https://www.atdf.org/awards/pegleg.html- Don Heart (possibly Don Hart Detroit artist)
Hi Robb Thanks to Gilly, yes (he still hasn't said how he knows though !!!) I only sort of picked it up from the credit on"Modern Day Woman" (which he apparently wrote with James Shorter on the LP) it credits him. Of course on the single by James, it is completely different writers credits (just to make this more complicated) and that's another story I guess- Don Heart (possibly Don Hart Detroit artist)
