  1. Let's face it you're never gonna be able to afford Jeremy Clarkson so get in on the ground floor with Tim now. And what would Channel 4 know about commercial success. You've got the new Buffy in "Reaper" and you hide it away on E4 and new episodes of "Come dine with me" should be on C4 7-8pm Saturday night. ROD

Bloody awful. I hate computers!!! ROD Actually it's OK if you make it bigger

No idea if this works but here's an attempt. ROD
  4. I'd say £200 for demo is top price and more like £150-175. Regular is rarely seen though so maybe 300. ROD
  5. Is it this Deon Jackson ROD
  6. If it's in my collection I don't really want to hear it and if it isn't I don't mind. After 40 years as far as trad. 60's Northern sound is concerned played out oldies and newies tend to be not much different really with some exceptions. ROD
  7. Yep. Tailor-made cover for the Beach Scene of Enchantment track on Roadshow I think. Enchantment may have come out here on UA but Im not sure and it will give you something to look for trawling those boot fairs. ROD
  8. I just got Milton [M-DJ] for £31 plus postage off Ebay via a second chance offer. My bid was beat by $1. I'd agree with Dave F that £50 may be about right but obviously you can get it cheaper if you're prepared to wait and look around. ROD
  9. Are they much different though. I have WXL. Is it worth getting WXB? ROD
  10. What's the difference anyone know. Which is the rarer as there are two ads running on Ebay both claiming the opposite. ROD
  11. I think that's a pretty fair assessment Richard although I would say that there were Black artists who were household names before the "social revolution of the 60's". Whether Armstrong,Basie,Ellington,Cole etc were just exceptions that proved the rule or maybe they were recording in a genre that was more familiar to a White audience as opposed to say the blues guys. To kill two birds with one stone I can see why you admire Dave Godin so much and I think he'd be proud to think that 40 years down the line his influence has played a part in leading you to come up with an article that he himself could have written back then. However I can appreciate that for a 16 year old at the time it could be considered heavy-going and of only peripheral interest to someone merely wanting to know the latest sounds in the clubs. Whatever the motivations for Moodies and Fame to cover those tracks [i prefer the originals myself] I do wonder why we appeared not to hear the original Black artists back in the 60's in the UK but then in 65 I was 12 and not that musically aware so maybe somewhere we did. They certainly got a release here and were played in some clubs. However "pop" music radio was almost non-existent compared to that in the USA and from what I've read restrictive practices [such as "needle-time] by the Musicians Union over here prevented exposure on radio and curtailed touring opportunities for USA acts. As nobody has replied I'd say it is the original before Yew as far as I know, and according to guy who wrote that USA "Harmony" singles book, it is. You've popped up on a few threads tonight toaster. ROD
  13. Utter but usually entertaining b..... ROD
  14. He has a Black Belt but it's in origami. ROD
  15. Obviously no idea how he approaches writing his column/article? He may have not read Manifesto cover to cover. And who lets facts get in the way of a good story? ROD
  16. I heard that at the time Bessie Banks was playing in goal for Leicester City and so wasn't available to promote the record? ROD
  17. Don't we all at times. Maybe he doesn't read Manifesto. Does everybody on here? I don't. Hardly surprising he's not "au fait" with exactly what's happening in Australia. I don't keep up with what's going on in Yorkshire. Surprised he got muddled with the James Carr tracks as I remember him championing this guy and other dreary [only IMHO of course] deep soul guys back in mid-70's when he was spending all his pocket-money on this stuff. He was probably thinking lemurs as he often does. "Tim Brown talks thru his ass"? Late night chat show on Channel 4. I'd tune in. ROD
  18. I can understand the frustration but I can't see that venting it on here is any answer to the problem. Personally I've never had anyone let me down although once or twice maybe a bit slow to pay as I tend toward the pay pretty immediately school myself. The instance of the 2 x Motown 45s is regrettable but at least the non-buyer did get in touch next day. If I don't know the buyer who reserves 45s and someone else orders after I usually say record is reseved but they can always check back in a week to see if sale has gone through. I think we need to identify "serial" non-buyers only. To do that you'd have to "name and shame", as Dave points out, so that the information can be shared amongst sellers and some kinda blacklist drawn up. The odd let-down whilst a pain for the seller is really to be expected amongst a clientelle whose pursuit of vinyl sometimes sees common sense fly out the window. ROD
  19. Cds

We have discussed this previously although reference to "nighters" does confuse me if you are making a distinction between those and "evening" do's as if there is a difference somehow. Anyway my 2p worth. Many modern tracks are only on CD If you're gonna cut an unreleased track off a CD to play why not play the CD If we take Adey C's unreleased finds Im guessing he could play off a CD but prefers to use 7" cut. Some of those tracks then come out on CD and some make it to Kent vinyl. They'd be no less worthwhile if played off a CD to start with. I don't like CDs personally just for the aesthetics of it all compared to vinyl. Obviously if OVO is available then it's a non-starter to use CDs unless the clientelle aren't particularly bothered. ROD
  20. I've got Martha "No part time..." Ex I'd say £70. See old sales list here /forums/topic/106197-60s-and-70s-for-sale/page__p__1107049__fromsearch__1entry1107049 ROD
  21. It's posts like this that make me proud to be British! Obviously I've no idea what you're on about but it does make my own mental state seem less precarious than I originally thought. I do have a question though. I have an Eric Lomax with sticker. Is it a demo or a rare regular issue that someone stuck a sticker on? ROD
  22. Yes I knew Chris and Rob well and neither of them were into oldies IMO other than they had oldies from the time they weren't I guess, which is why I was surprised by Rob Wigley's comment. Couldn't imagine either at a predominantly oldies do at the time unless the sales boxes were better. ROD
  23. Too many repostings and too much splitting up into individual ads that could come under the one ad. This pushes those sellers who are sticking to the rules down the page at a much faster rate and once you're on P2 the chances of selling seem to diminish rapidly. ROD
  24. I didn't know Rob Marriott started out as more a fan of the oldies nights but I think you've nailed it there Rob. Still you do have the advantage of actually having been there. Oldies in Mr.M's as against newies or even biggies in the main room. "60's newies" was the obvious term to employ toward end of 70's and early 80's to differentiate those sounds from the preponderence of 70's stuff getting plays but the emphasis in that particular phrase was on the "60's" and not really used to contrast 60's oldies with 60's new discoveries or 60's current biggies. ROD
  25. Not that I've got enough mates nowadays to host a party but in the past I'd go with James Brown "Papa's got a brand new binbag" Carla Thomas "Pick up the plates" Archie Bell "Tidy up" Unknown artist acetate "Now all f**k off home, it's half-ten and I wanna go to bed" ROD
