  1. Credit for the work he put in there and free to use but aren't a lot of these guide prices just fairyland. I just checked latest thing I bought off eBay, Bobby Williams "Its all over". VG++ £150 ! Cost me £20.44. M- Obviously you can pick up bargains but I'd go with finishing prices on eBay [popsike] rather than a figure which seems to have been plucked out of the air. In truth there isn't a best up to date guide. You need to check selling prices across a wide range of outlets and then apply common sense. I reckon Williams would be £40 here ? LATER ADDITION Looking at this guide looks like it is a realised price ? I'm going off the fact he's stated grades. And there are multiple entries for same 45 eg Magnificent Men "I've got news" so IMO a better base to judge values than say Manship or Brown.
  2. I get requests for "Get off" which seems to be by the Umuppets but unfortunately I don't have a copy.
  3. My wife has persuaded me to go to Cleethorpes this year. Main selling point is the fishing lake. Not been fishing for years but used to go a lot. That's the only gear I'm taking. If you or Paul S are going too I could do with some assistance as I think I've forgotten how to use my hook tie. I went to some weekender in France where people were sat around the pool. A fag, a drink in the balmy night air and my mind went back to smoking outside Burnley all-nighter at 3 a.m. in January and suddenly "keeping it real" wasn't that attractive.
  4. To be fair guy in video is a lot younger. Older you get the less nimble ? But thanks for the video. The thin girl in the short dress was worth it alone.
  5. Customs must keep a record to ensure PO collects duties owed ? Computerised ? Highlights frequent users ? Just a thought.
  6. I wonder if the number of packages coming through the door gets you noticed. I get say six per year from USA usually 50-ish albums and 20-ish 45s. Whilst mate declares low I can't hide postage which is usually around $100. Not got charged yet.
  7. Rod where did all the stuff in the 70's in manchester come from that searling and you and dave macadam all went through. wasnt that radio station stuff. Got it from Indigo Studios but where it originated no real idea. From the vague indications we got from the sellers it was more to do with TV. I remember Plymouth Grove being mentioned and TOTP was based around there from 64-66 so maybe that.
  8. But wouldn't there be more than one library ? I know a guy who got stuff out of BBC Manchester [not 60's]. And then there are overseas stations which I guess were operated by BBC World service or whatever. Scal on here got in one and there were tons of UK 60's demos. Which they wouldn't sell unfortunately ! Posted whilst you were typing, Chalky.
  9. Turned this and WB up in early 90's I think from a box under the table in Ye Olde Clocke Shoppe in Kannapolis. There were about three boxes full of oddball NC labels. Sold WB to Sam and I think Phil Wainwright got the other title. Pretty sure I left Ronnie Lowe. Vocals let it down.

  11. Just got WXB mix and gonna compare to WXL. To save time anyone know difference and what I should be listening out for. Right now having played WXB sounds same to me but then not played WXL back-to-back.
  12. VG- A number of visible imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force a VG- grade, as will the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail. Prices he gets for VG and below records are crazy.
  13. Dreadful news, Derek. Only sold him a 45 around 6 weeks ago and had a chat via PMs. A nice guy.

  15. After a thorough and painstaking search I found my sock down by the side of the bed. Unwashed ! I don't think I'm being unreasonable when I say she shouldn't be wearing my socks without my permission, nor when having lost my sock should she regard the loss as some trivial matter and deny any culpability, treating the whole thing in a frivolous manner. The whole situation was made worse as she'd not got me a crunchie when she'd gone shopping despite my explicit instructions. No doubt she will buy me some socks for Xmas [as if I've not told her often enough I want Al Williams on Palmer] but I think that would just be rubbing salt in the wounds. I don't see why I should foot the bill for missing socks and from now on I'll be keeping her on her toes.
  16. Yes, I've seen that 45 in the past. According to GB it came out on the Detroit Stag label as Bambi Garrett but I just think he's just being silly now.
  17. You can't generalise really, Steve. The guy with 500 boots, plus legit releases and cheaper originals probably has a passion to own what he likes. I can understand that more than say those I've met over the years who tell me they don't buy records. And Timbo, I guess a lot of these people are older so vinyl is their preferred medium on which to listen to music. I have some CDs but they tend to be those featuring unreleased tracks like the Motown series. I look on CDs as the 2019 equivalent of the C90 cassette - I've got the track "on tape" but I've not really got it in my collection. I have no idea how prevalent buying boots to play out is. I read about it on here but I'd have thought most were purchased for home use.
  18. From now on you are my go-to-guy !
  19. A bit OT but about Lulu. She was on at Pride in Manchester. Clare, my wife, was on stage with her interpreting for the deaf in the audience. Geoff Buckley, well known Detroit collector and respected dj [so he tells me] has, to his eternal shame, an album by her [that's Lulu, not the wife - the wife can't sing.... or cook...… or tidy up after herself and today she's lost one of my socks which tbh is very annoying]. I digress. Anyway GB wants the album signed by Lulu [so he can later put it in a JM auction ?] and Clare agrees. It contains the track "Leave a little love". We prime Clare with the info that it's a cover version of Patti Austin [which I now think is wrong actually as writer is Les Reed who is English so maybe Lulu was first and I shoulda checked instead of listening to that so-called collector and two-bit dj]. I digress. So Clare meets up with Lulu before she appears on stage and gets her to autograph the sleeve whilst passing on the interesting titbit concerning Austin. "I'm a good friend of Patti Austin and she's never recorded this song" According to Clare she was rather put out and a bit of a diva. Good job Clare didn't bring up the Isley Brothers.
  20. I hope you don't mean me. I'm explaining why in the main some people buy bootlegs.
  21. As I said they're buying what they like without spending large sums. Tbh I've only a vague idea of what gets booted, Going back to programme it showed Jackie Edwards. Original is expensive and even legit re-issue from 70's seems to be £40+ [see Discogs]. so £8-10 is a bargain if you're looking at getting a copy cheap.
  22. If that was the point of the programme then as usual when it comes to NS it was mostly wrong. There was the Levine thing where counterfeits do seem to have been passed off as originals but apart from that, as Steve G states, people know what they're getting. No one is buying the FW 45 shown thinking it's the original. They might think it's legit which is a different thing altogether. Guys selling photocopied labels on UK eBay usually state that in the ad. Yes they often fetch daft prices but not original prices. I don't think there is a large gullible market out there. Just people who don't want to spend large amounts of money on buying records they like.
