GOOD HEALTHY THREAD THIS MY VIEW IS THAT THERE IS 3 SCENES GOING ON AT THE MOMMENT, -THE UPFRONT NIGHTER SCENE WHICH HAS BASICALLY HAD MANY OF ITS ATTENTENTEES VISTING DOS SINCE THE EARLY EIGHTIES AND GIVING THE REAL COMMITTMENT TO THE SCENE.TO ME THIS CROWD VIEW THE SCENE MORE AS A LIFESTYLE CHOICE AND SHOW PASSION AND COMMITTMENT TO COLLECTING AND MOVING THE SCENE ON. -THE RETRO CROWD AND COMEBACKS WHO PREFER THE OLDIES AND VERY POSSIBLY THE RENEWING OF OLD FRIENDSHIPS ETC.NOT MANY OF THIS CROWD CROSSOVER TO THE FIRST SCENE IF SO THEN ALL THE BETTER.THESE PEOPLE WERE FUNNY TROUSERS AND ARE LAUGHED AT BY NORMAL PEOPLE AND BUS DRIVERS,THEY SPIN TO DO I LOVE YOU AND EAT RETRO WIGAN PIES,THEY MISTAKE PRO PLUS FOR BACK STREET BLUIES AND TEND TO DRINK VAST AMOUNTS OF LAGER. -SCENE 3 IS THE VAST AMOUNT OF AVERAGE SOUL NIGHTS UP AND DOWN THE COUNTRY THAT LAST TILL 12 AT NIGHT AND PLAY RUBY ANDREWS JUST LOVING YOU 11 TIMES.THIS SCENE COMPLEMENTS THE RETRO SCENE. Used to be just 60ts/seventies for me ,but used to pop to hitsville in newcastle and get big discounts on the new indie stuff,so found myself having alot of releases from the indie era of soul late 80ts early nineties also,quality stuff like bert robinson,james robinson and the brilliant bobby bosemen.Still buying new releases from crazy beat as much as 60/70ts stuff and ive got to say some of the new releases are spot on/MANY OF WHICH ARE MUCH TALKED ABOUT ON HERE.Just love black music that is soulful really any era if its soulful,however if i ever had to choose,it would be almost definetly SIXTIES. Yep very sad in the seventies[ i started to pick it up in 78 ]while at school it was the back pages for the playlists for the casino etc.I always bought the mag right up till it was rebranded ,then i just thought it had lost its edge.You see this alot in publishing well established mags -big cash injection,directors driving mercs then cash flow down the pan. I always will remember it for the way it supported the scene i even kept copies of when my playlists were in round about 96 when it gave the catterick soul dos a great write up. Part of northern history ,it would be good if someone could attach the awesome Dave Godin articles of the early to mid seventies ,just loved reading them,quoting our brothers and soul sisters up north.
