  1. It's got to be up there amongst the best Richard - amazing how intense such a simple lyric can be in the right hands. Cheers Manus
  2. Yes I think it was pretty wild back in those days and those lads from Kirby/Leigh fitted in well with the Gateshead boys as they were as daft as we were. The Geordies and the Scousers mainly got on pretty well anyway - I remember the 74 cup final when we got hammered 3-0 - there was a bit of trouble early in the morning but rest of the day/night the pubs were full of Geordies and Scousers drinking and singing together. Cheers Manus
  3. Yeah they certainly were the "good old days "Toma. Great to see you on Friday and numerous other old friends I really enjoyed myself. Cheers Manus
  4. Hello Ady The late much respected Tony Connolly also ran buses from Newcastle to Wigan and wee Duncan Mcallister - I think there may have been 3 coaches at one time. It was coach wars for a while with buses being cancelled at the last minute by mysery callers. Great times and quite funny now when you look back. Coaches did take the fun out it a bit though - I missed the shady characters that used to hang out in Rowntrees Sounds in Manchester and the drug squad at the station dressed in bomber jackets carrying holdalls asking if you had any gear. Cheers Manus
  5. Thanks Tim - his name had escaped me. And Peterlee makes more sense as there didn't really seem to be many niter folk around from Sunderland back then - odd considering how big the scene was in County Durham. Cheers Manus
  6. Yes I think Jazzy B got that one wrong there was a regular crowd of black guys/girls that travelled to Wigan from the Gateshead/Newcastle area Jeffrey Joe Davie Joe Tony Joe Big Ray Maria And a young guy from Sunderland whose name I've forgotten ( Brian Johnson from Peterlee) Cheers Manus
  7. His name has been synonymous with Soul music in this country for as long as I can recall RIP Manus

  9. Yer right Harry - each to their own . I know a lot of people really enjoyed records like Peggy March so fair do's, it just wasn't my own personal taste. Cheers Manus
  10. I used to give Soul Coaxing a spin in the 70's at the Key Club in Birtley when I used to do a regular spot for Alex Lowes NE Soul Club. Peggy March and similar records were not really my thing but the Lefevre inst had something going for it - haven't heard it for years now. Cheers Manus
  11. Contours - Just a little misunderstanding Manus
  12. Strange coincidence - my son went to a charity music night on HMS Belfast on Saturday night and had a great time and I told him about going to a Soul night there back in the late 80's or early 90's and then I click onto the London Soul Circular link and there it is advertised in the gig guide along with a few other venues I visited- Spooky. Manus
