  1. Well Paul I've drank buckets of the mountain dew as it's known but never found a Michael Moonshine ESQ I think he's definitely ex directory. Come to think of it I think the same person who told me Mickie Moonshine was one Mickie Most also told me Val McKenna was from Newcastle. Cheers Manus

  3. I don't have it Ian it wasn't really my cup of tea although I could understand it's popularity. Leev's credit details seem to have confirmed it for you. Cheers Manus

  7. Sad news. I'm so glad he got to know how much his contribution to Black music was appreciated. I can still hear "Rosemary" playing from a someone's tinny cassette on Wigan staion the morning after the niter. God bless & thank you Manus

  9. Hello Paul I remember DJing at a niter in the west end of Newcastle and West Denton rings a bell - bit of a strange night if I remember rightly. There was a niter at Dunelm house in Durham city run by Alex Lowes and he arranged a follow up one but it was pulled at the last minute by the council and I mean the last minute. A bus load turned up from Scotland and then they had to go on to Wigan. There was also all nighters on at the Sombero in Chester Le Street on a fairly regular basis, Soul and later Jazz Funk. And as you''ve mentioned the Aycliffe Youth Club niters which were well known throughout the country. Can't remember any more at the minute I'll have a think. Cheers Manus

The Bridge was one of the first pubs I ever went to. It used to be Irish run and we used to be taken there for Irish dancing in the early 60's, but me and my older brother Sean got thrown out for acting the goat and spoiling it for the other kids. The first pub I ever got barred out of but sadly not the last It was also known as a political pub with lots of different groups meeting in the rooms. So you might have the Revolutionary Geordie Peoples Front meeting in one room and the Peoples Geordie Revolutionary Front meeting in another. Ah tell yer the broon ale bottles used to fly. but only after the liquid had been removed. It had a wonderful old Victorian bar that I hear was gutted out to make more room A Newcastle landmark it was with the local folk group the High Level Ranters playing there almost every week. Cheers Manus
  13. Great tune Chris - I think it typifies Wigan at the height of its adrenalin/amphetamine fuelled best Cheers Manus

Yes it's definitely Tich - I seem to recall he took a bit of ribbing about it. Aycliffe was a bit of a Soul fortress in those days with everyone and their dog into the music.A great Soul history for a small Durham town. All the best Manus

It's a long time ago so the memory's a bit fuzzy but I'm sure the little guy in the light coloured vest and white trousers looking like he's riding an invisible horse is Tich Farlowe from Newton Aycliffe. Great lad around a lot in the 70's Cheers Manus
  18. An old friend once told me that two of her friends went to see Jimmy R perform in Yorkshire one night. Then early in the morning she gets woken up by a phone call " Guess where we are" says her friend " In bed with Jimmy Ruffin the two of us" Good ole Jimmy a performer to the end. It's wonderful to be loved by you and you. Cheers Manus
