It is! I took Mr.Hennigan along to the last one, seeing as he was in town....he loved it not only for the music, but also for the curry, pizza and some spicey sausages we had there too!
  2. If you're talking about the backing track, allow the ladies and gentlemen of the RareSoulForum.co.uk (from 2003) to answer that old chestnut for you: Frankie & Classicals - What shall I do - Calla 127 1. strings & guitar intro / added strings - b/w I Only Have Eyes For You #127 2. strings + spoken intro / added strings - b/w I Only Have Eyes For You #127 3. no intro / added strings - b/w Good-bye Love (Sailor's sadness) #127BN Frankie & Classicals - What shall I do - Philips UK & Pye UK no intros on either / added strings Laura Greene - Moonlight music & you/Love Is Strange - RCA 9164 (US & UK reissue: orange & grey copies) 4. spoken intro + guitar + harpsichord / added harpsichord Honey Townsend - The World again/Technicolour Dream - Mala 540 5. intro + strings / added strings Subway Riders - After the session/Adam - Moon Shot 6706 (2 issues) 6. intro + organ instead of a harpsichord / added organ - with NYC address on label. 2nd issue = different tune + same title - no address on label. Mark Johnson - This beautiful place/Ode To Otis Redding - Diamond 237 7. no intro / strings + animal effects The Burning Emotions - The new World/The Whatchama Call It - Bang 553 8. intro + strings & animal effects throughout Note: A.B.C. copies are a different tune. The Essex - Moonlight Music & You/The Eagle - Bang 537 9. spoken intro + strings / added strings AND a lyric change........... "Oh, by the way did you bring your radio", unlike Laura's (first name terms by now) "Oh, by he way, did you bring your guitar",
  3. Stop messing about with Bobby's Battle 45...you'll bet bored of it, mate...great intro but it just doesn't go anywhere and leaves a feeling of unfulfilled promise! Go for, if you haven't already got it, his disc on Purdy...'Don't you feel it'...far stronger, charismatic sharp organ work and prime BIG NYC Soul at it's finest. Then, start picking up other discs on Purdy like Ray Fleming's wonderful, 'For better or for worse'...did I mention I have a spare?
  4. I have an...ahem...Erect 12" up for sale >>> Click Here <<< Oh! Sweet memories of Stafford!

There's a club I attend in Tokyo, which runs every other month...it is the ultimate chin-strokers / anoraks / collectors meet up point, with NO dancefloor, naturally! The decks have a camera directed at them, so we can then look at the big flat-screen TV above the bar and feverishly scratch our chins as we pass comment on the disc being played (yes someone redirects the camera from deck to deck!). If you get bored looking at that, you can always look at the autographed James Carr LP framed up on the wall, for he got to said event once upon a time too (he is a BIG hero over these parts.) There is also a Vestex portable on one of the tables, for the use of disc sales'n'swaps...and yes someone will have a well-thumbed price guide with them for our amusement too! Tunes played are right across the board from early 6Ts through to 80's Soul...with an emphasis on male vocal stuff too. One minute you'll hear Mellow Madeness, the next Buddy Smith, all received well with the occasional round of applause from the deck-spotters, who have been known to later dance around the venue in various styles as the alcohol takes effect! The chairs are soft and comfortable, there is ample light, cheap beer and seldom a female in sight...almost like a gentlemen's club (without any snotty waiters though, mind!). May I also point out that there is also curry and pizza on the menu, and the entrance fee includes your first drink...and you can smoke in the venue too! Sigh...I believe I have achieved nirvana.

  20. The playing surface has a few slight marks being styrene, but it plays through with no surface noise, pops, skips or jumps. Nothing to worry about. The marks on the label are via a black felt pen, so it may come off with ink remover fluid...haven't tried. £200 inc. courier service/insurance to your doorstep. The listing on my site is based on discs I've got/had, plus a few recommendations from fellow collectors. I've never had those two discs you mention...any chance of RA's...always look forward to hearing tracks I don't know, especially on such an interesting label such as USA.
  22. Even I've got a copy of this...love it!
