  1. I'll get round to it this weekend, as the Solid Hit version is soooo much better than the Mah's one...honest! It sounds more 'complete' with the additional brass...more 'Detroity'...imo.

Here's a nice one...West Coast Monarch press. I sold a stone-mint (probably unplayed!) spare copy for £50 recently. Should go for double that imo...so good/fine pedigree/under played.
  3. 1000mph...defo improved using a vari-speed deck! Red label variant. Are there any WDs?
  4. Yes. Another number that is on red vinyl with the WDs. Great track...Northern!

Agree. What do you think of his, 'The sweetest story', Gareth?

He once told me Holland too. It is certainly safe to assume that they aren't over here in Japan, as none of the collectors have it/them/have ever seen one either. My copy came from Quin Ivy himself...and yes the version used on various Charly label releases is indeed off master tapes, stereo AND a different mix to the released 45 (check out the brass work!). If y'all don't know it, I thoroughly recommend another track by him, on the South Camp label called, 'The sweetest story'...great Northern SOUL.
  7. This one is pretty good/obscure/lesser known/interesting to some! It is a female vocal (but not exactly accomplished to be fair!) track with an overall Soul/Jazz feel to it, and reminiscent of Karmella Brooks, if you like that kinda thing?
  8. Nowp, that's the Mah's version...but still great innit! Now imagine additional brass on top and you're on the right track! Haven't got time to record snippets at the moment...not that I've ever been successful uploading clips onto SS anyway!!!
  9. The Solid Hit take is far, far superior to the common (yet still good) Mahs release. Here's a link to a piece I wrote about it in Shades of Soul back in 2004: >>> CLICK HERE <<< A very nice piece to add to any collection, or indeed DJ with!
  10. Hi Ian, I had one many moons ago...West Coast styrene press with typical block-print and bar-lines. I may have a label scan somewhere...will have a poke around.
  11. Awesome moody mid-tempo NYC Soul grinder...imo. Defo has turntable time left in it and I can easily imagine a fair amount of people liking it, if they didn't know it and enjoyed mid-6T's NYC Soul. I sold a copy in the mid 90's to Chris Dale, who gave it a few spins on the Northern/Mod scenes in/around London. Not a 'rarest of the rare' piece...I've listed my spare for a while with no takers.

  13. The label's owner's cat's name was, 'Lizard'. (My WD is exactly the same as Godzilla's...and yes I've also seen large font copies of stockers...but never as a WD.)
  14. Have sent youa PM, Vince I may be in Japan, but it seems the courier sevice I use can usually get a disc to a UK doorstep within 3 days...or less!
  15. 'One way love' came out on two different labels...the Eye label release has TYG on the flip, whilst the rarer label one doesn't. Not sure about the Zells connection, mind.
  16. One on my list for a mere £10, along with some other Lou Johnson 45's on Big Top and Big Hill. >>> CLICK HERE <<<

What a super super super track and rare rare rare too! Congratulations in advance to the winner. Loadsa mileage left in this one.
  22. Nice one! I recall many, many moons ago - a good friend of mine went to get an obligatory Northern Soul fist tattooed on the top of her arm. On first revealing it to me, still fresh, we both thought that it looked all right...but...on the second glance I suddenly noticed a slight problem...it had five fingers and a thumb. Oh dear! How do you break that gently to a good friend?!

For reference, the Decca release of this one is a totally different take. Both good.
