  1. Nice easy going tune - Certainly heard a LOT worse - Remember years back someone spinning me a LN 45 on Verve Folkways and sounding pretty good - Cant remember the title. She certainly has the musical credentials of that singer /song writer who puts out a decent slab of music. Be it folky/jazz/ etc. ATB Rich
  2. Think I've seen the Dells at 50 / 60 but balked at that price on ebay. Not just the boots going for daft money.. Rich
  3. Just seen one go on ebay for £102!!?? Always thought this was a £25 quidder! Rich
  4. Have seen a 1973 issue around and about - The cuts are Argo 45s from mid sixties (??) - I'm guessing about £20 / £30??? ATB Rich
  5. I know the disc - seen them fetch about 15 / 20 on ebay - Obviously $$$ for the originals . Theres some re-issue LP's of their stuff knocking around - try tunes.co.uk or soul brother. ATB Rich
  6. ============================================================================= If its the one I'm thinking of - Its Monguito Santa Maria - Hey Sister ( Fania - I think) Big on the mod scene back in ooh mid / late 80s ? Lost out on a french copy last year - does go for a bit of brass - dont see it too often. atb Rich
  7. In the context of the whole ' Whats Going On ' LP - Marvin wins- the undisputed number one soul album for both content , style emotion and capturing a defining era in music , black or white. - But Donny's version still a contender . His best cut for me ? I'll Love You More Than You'll Ever Know - Live or studio - Absolutley stunning soul . Song For You also comes close. Remember Bob Jones playing a trio of cuts in memory of fellow soulie / Dj CJ 's wife who sadly passed on. Song For You / William Bells - Forgot To be Your Lover plus one more I cant remember - Have to say three tear jerking cuts that really tugged the heart strings. Immense talent. You cant help but feel what went thru both of these guys minds - drugs / suicide / deep personal troubles which sadly took away a mass of talent from us. ATB Rich

https://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProduct...1;-1&sku=555073 Had a CD of theirs - fairly beat orientated in that Driscoll / Auger sound. Worth checking out if you like something a bit different. ATB Rich Ooops diff. ' brigade ' 7. Apologies! A remix I think.
  9. Expression Of Soul - ( Chelsea ) has always been a favourite LP of mine - picked that up cheap years ago in a market for a couple of quid too. Great artist - another who deserves a few more plaudits IMHO. Rich
  10. Mentioned before - but Sweet Geraldine - Brainstorm ( Magic City ) - quid - about 2 months ago. ATB Rich
  11. Well not really for sale - but thought this might be the best forum for this. I have a furniture store in the Harrogate - North yorkshire area - A lot of the furniture I sell is fully assembled and uses LOTS of cardboard - tons of the stuff. If your a dealer / ebayer etc and want some cardboard for stiffeners etc then you are welcome to take as much as you like on an ongoing basis. Might save you a few quid in the long run . Plus it all gets re cycled. Its decent thick card a lot of the time - So if you want it - its yours. If your interested - PM me or email me at: rich.phelan@btconnect.com ATB Rich
  12. Great clip - Chuck was an early soul hero - My first NS weekender ( Yarmouth er.. 89? ) - Saw Chuck, Gene Chandler JJ Barnes . Waiting to queue for an autograph - felt like them daft girls in old Beatles clips - me bl****dy knees were going I tells ya! The mans talent is simply awesome IMO. Thanks! Rich

[quote An idea that we are planning in the future at The Orwell is to have a night where no DJ plays anything more than say, a £20 tune! The pressure to play rare tunage will be off and i can bet that the quality will be high and then some! Look out for a night like this at The Orwell in the near future. Any one find that idea attractive and more importantly, would you attend a night like that? Be nice to hear everyone's thoughts on this? Cheers Steve

Brilliant track - And nice to see , like Paul and Baz have highlighted ( Amongst many others ) that just because it isn't rare / 1000's $$$ doesn't mean to say it should be ignored. Yes its not a new discovery - no its not expensive - but its 100% soul! Surely the main factor when digging out these 45s. We've all said it before but ignore these great 45s at your peril!!!! ATB Rich
  15. How good is that ? To think in some community centre all those years ago dancing away to rare soul - priceless footage. Rich
  16. Picked up the following - Roger Love - Just to Make You Happy b/w Every Line Has Its Place ( Hot Line Journal ) Doesn't sound too bad from the quick play I gave it yesterday - Anybody any info on artist / label ? ATB Rich

True Rod - I guess ' tarred with the same brush ' springs to mind - With so many sellers trying it on I suppose the odd one is not going to know / or be unsure - You stick it on ebay and hey presto - you get your big bids. Ah yes the Shalamar rare northern soul - I look at those BIG LOTS OF RARE SOUL all the time - Dogs dinner a lot of em. ATB Rich

============================================================== Guaranteed to be original and authentic. - Says the seller Yeah right mate - these were the ones pressed up in the late 80s ?? Seem to remember buying one at Bradford Queens Hall . Whether the seller thinks it is original - I very much doubt it - then he is ripping off the buyer. Simple as really. Makes me sick! Tenner is about right. ATB Rich
  19. ============================================================= Lovely track - Is the flip ' You'll Wake Up wiser ' the same as the Betty Lavette on Atco ? Love BL version - whats DJ's version like if same? First heard 'Someday ' on a tape from Carl Fortnum ( And what a crackin tape that was ! ) - That and George Pepp just make you break out all !! ATB Rich
  20. Hasn't Gasher ( Sorry Gasher dont know your real name! ) got a Minighters LP going ? Seems like an item for completists / fans? ATB Rich
  21. https://www.globaldogproductions.com/ Should be most if not all on there - plus hundreds of other 50s / 60s labels . Dave 's Soulful Kinda Music great too for label listings. ATB Rich
  22. Who knows ? Ebay / Paypal make money either way - they don't give a sod really - Theres tons of counterfeit / illegal items for sale all the time. I've emailed a few bidders in the past who are bidding on misleading items - dont want them shelling out for un original discs. However - if people are willing to pay daft prices on clear boots / pressings more fool them!! Supply & demand.... Yet , a Mel Britt re-issue /boot whatever they are sold the other night for I think £25 - Although there were several Buy It Nows for a tenner !! Dynells £40?? Loads on the net for a fiver or less - with the Vivian Reed flip - legal re-issue!! If its well known folk supplying these well.... its always happened hasn't it? Will it ever end? probably not. ATB Rich
  23. Fantastic record - All the ingredients that make it a feel good track - BUT - ' You Got Me Hurtin All Over ' on the flip is one of my all time faves on the label... double soulful bubble! ATB Rich
  24. Great tune - Missed one on ebay recently - $81 - ATB Rich
  25. LDH - Along side your Ola / Omar / genuine talent - Saw him live at Jazz Cafe a few years ago and the guy was brilliant - really had the crowd with him. You wont go far wrong picking up his albums - Sadly missed - both the man and genuine soulful UK talent. ATB Rich
