  1. Wow! Cheers, Mark R
  2. Nu-Rons followed by Cheryll Berdell Pete! What's not to like! ;-) Cheers, Mark R
  3. Hi Rod, On the first point, maybe you misunderstand. I'm sure Richard was always buying new releases, I wouldn't doubt that. I am just talking about a period that I am more familiar with. I take your point about the London thing, fair comment and again I wouldn't dispute that. Same with Mike S influence, I know Mike well, and am fully aware of his influence in the North West. I don't doubt any of these influences/contributions etc, but I do know that a proportion of the Richard's JazzFM playlist back then came via Dean's ear...........I used TOP as an example as I believed that to be a specific case, but as you say, I'm sure Dean can clarify if he sees this. But wherever the influence came from, I'm simply saying that there are always people behind the scenes who are "unsung heroes"........as a record buyer and DJ myself I can tell you that without question! Of course, it's not quite the same now with internet shopping for new releases where it's easier to find your own from the comfort of your armchair............given the ear! Cheers, Mark R
  4. Hi Jordi, I'm sure I saw a Searling set list in Echoes back in the day titled "Richard Searling's Random Dancefloor" or something like that..............it was either one of these late Wigan ones or Morecambe Pier shortly after. Titled that way to reflect the mixed nature of the set I guess........ Isn't there a playlist of his last set at the Casino with Kenny Burke et al in it? If only the music would have just carried on morphing as time progressed............there wouldn't be half the in-fighting and circus nostalgia acts........ Cheers, Mark
  5. Any late Wigan Soul Sam ones? Cheers, Mark R
  6. Are you going to listen as you record Pete? ;-) Cheers, Mark R
  7. Something I was going to mention the other day when this subject was brought up, but as you've raised it again........... The same can be said for when Richard did his JazzFM shows playing new releases in the 90's & early 2k.............a good many of the tunes came from the ear of Dean at Expansion in Manchester (think TOP "It Really Doesn't Matter" etc), so there are always people behind the scenes deserving of credit. This is true for many, so I'm not singling out Richard, but this is all relevant to him so it fits here. Of course, you've then got to be able to take them forward as the DJ and make them work within a whole set, particularly in a club, so it's not the end of the story when the DJ is told "hey, have a listen to this......it's a killer!" Cheers, Mark R
  8. Yeah.....gwaaan! Cheers, Mark R
  9. Shame Pete, some of us would love to hear that, but I don't expect you to go out of your way digitising something you don't like just to please others! You already go beyond the call in that respect. But you never know, you might have a change of heart one day! LOL And I take it you mean unlistenable in terms of the modern tunes, and not the sound quality? Cheers, Mark R
  10. Someone else has noticed this then! And I don't think it applies to just this record.....you would think care would be taken with the write up's on records fetching a mint on auctions.....it just doesn't sit right.......a little like taking the p!ss!! Cheers, Mark R
  11. Another one gone. R.I.P. Jimmy. Mark R
  12. Very sad. R.I.P. Tony. Mark R
  13. It will go no further. ...... Cheers, Mark R
  14. Well, that's a shame Pete, especially for us lot that just love to hear these things and for whom not everything in life revolves around $$$.......see my note on another thread about people knowing the price of everything but the value of nothing. .......case rested! :-( How did you get on with the Ric Tic recording? Cheers, Mark R
  15. I love that statement on so many levels! It fits so many aspects of it all, and not just the specifics of this thread. Well said that man! Cheers, Mark R
  16. Hi Matt, It wouldn't be the Regent Club would it? Martha Reeves was pulled from the Leisure Centre last minute and the nighter took place at the Regent Club......just across the lights. Cheers, Mark R
  17. Does Edwin split the crowd down the middle and do the (left) "War, what is it good for", (right) "absolutely nothin'"? I'm sure I recall that but I saw him several times and he probably ALWAYS did it!! Will be downloading that Pete, for sure! :-) Cheers, Mark R
  18. Would love to hear that Pete.......my first ever all nighter so special significance or me! :-) Cheers, Mark R
  19. Anybody know? Stronger and or/lighter? Worth the extra cost? Cheers, Mark R
  20. I have to admit, from what I have read on this thread, I was thinking along these lines Chalky. Cheers, Mark R
  21. What I don't understand Pete, if this is true................why the screens? Just doesn't add up! Cheers, Mark R
  22. Bloody hell! So is my red/pink Carstairs a legit release or not? LOL This is exactly why I'm happy with my new releases and buy very few older/rare records......it's a minefield if you're not really 100% keyed in to it! It doesn't really matter, as I just bought it as a young lad that wanted the sound and wasn't hooked up on the kerlecting thing......it certainly didn't cost me a lot...... But threads like this remind me of how fraught all this is!! It also puts a bit of a different slant on the playing OVO thing, as I'm sure in lots of cases folk wouldn't realise they weren't playing OVO with releases like this. Hell, even the cognoscenti can't agree!! Cheers, Mark R
  23. What's the benefit of the Swan "Flight Panel" option, if any? And I see what you mean about off-centre handle.....they put it centrally, but then when you use it, it hinges up to be off-centre and the weight doesn't sit centrally, right? Chalky, you saying they now offset the handle so it's central when operated? See, who says "a box is a box"? Will look at the Blakka today, see what else is said here, and then make a choice so that my missus can get one in tine for my birthday! :-) Cheers chaps, Mark R
  24. Thanks for the info so far gents, those Swans do look like they fit the bill at a sensible price. Cheers, Mark R
