  1. Spot on - people do want quality music thats not run of the mill prepackaged pop. Probably the most insightful post for a while that I've read. IMO and for what its worth. When most scenes became strong enough to go on to survive and thrive it was because people wanted to belong ( this kind of links to the membership posts as well) at the moment there are very few younger people who are wanting to belong to the soul scene. I have no doubt it will change and if they are exposed to the soul scene will likely return to a much stronger place. After all I would rather be in a rammed club listening to good music than sitting in a small group to the early hours with echoes swirling around the void of an empty venue. Mark.
  2. Just got round to reading most of the posts on this thread and I have to say that Helen is pretty close to a lot of my views with the above. To paraphrase a bit the scene is like life - shit in bits and fantastic in others so take and make of it what you will. Mark.

  11. Excellent post. He noticed some slight warping! No Sh+t steam at 100 degrees. Whoda thought it. Would have been funnier if he had taken it from VPi to decks and done some old school scratching though.

  13. They have had to as they are covered under the consumer credit act for some of the transactions and by the regulator and watchdog for financial services and banking for others. Good result though Pete. mark.

  15. appologies if this has been flagged elsewhere - if not have a read though. Could have implications worldwide and not just USA. Shortcut to: https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7412671.stm
  16. Hi Des, I am only a novice, as many will know, but would think that it infers no rights to the song itself only the medium on which it is cut.In other words the acetate is yours to buy and sell but not reproduce without permission. Intellectual property laws, mean that the writer always owns the song unless they sold the rights to a third party (possibly a recording studio or publisher or record label). Even in many of those cases there can be a cut off period where it reverts to the original writer. The Presley estate was an example where the songs had a finite period of sole use and reprodcution by the Presley estate only or by contract to them I believe. I am no expert but did do a little digging on it last year. I am positive there are many more enlighted than me that will correct any misconceptions I may have on the matter. Mark.
  17. There is an artist by that name that is an elvisalike singer - used to sing his own stuff I believe but also covered elvis, jumpsuit an all.
  18. Ahh, I see. Wonder what the kids of today will remember about their lives today in 27 years time. Probably naff all in comparison.

Dept of trading standards? they might like to know.
  20. Not a waste of time though. I remembers those days and the cracking niters on the rallys. Many people who I speak to today don't seem to believe that it could have ever been so! Still there loss in many ways as almost twenty years on form that article I still enjoy both. The article could almost have been written for today given the threads that have appeared over the last few months on both subjects. top marks Supercorsa. Mark.
  21. I am game Adam, been digging out a lot of late 70's and 80's if youre ok with that?
