  1. thank you to all inc those that are against the venue you can still vote with your computer and add your name and words of assistance as most of you have. Doug
  2. Dave as is your wish not to sign a petition to stop the council closing a venue down. your choice as we do live in a democracy and everyone has their own viewpoint. just hope other people see that it is the venue and soul nights we are supporting, Doug Hall
  3. please add your name to the growing no of people supporting Horncastle and kick this strange idea into touch sign and be saved hallelujah gettin carried away
  4. you would pay 50 quid to DJ for 10 minutes, good man that 10 mins at 50 quid every hour x6 x 10 hours equals 3k not quite enough but getting there.
  5. AT notts palais long before the legendary all dayers where held there, but never DJ;d there did Mansfield Palais, years before, then got Wed shame that ended a lot of late and arduos nights catching the paper vans from the station to Mansfield with a woman resting on top of 5000 News of the Worlds etc, god I was tight in those days. not changed much cost to put on around 5k dependent on venue costs and security etc,
  6. Which DJs do you want to appear if it can be sorted out
  7. Good lad was Derek Banner thought he came from Blidworth and did do some Jocking at the Forest folk (I Believe) and work with Him,Jerry and Arnie Scutt Sunday nights at the Swan and some other nights and he was one of the bringers of the "New Northern" sounds into mansfield which at the time was mostly club soul with the Palais,LadyBrook comunity centre, and the Tufty club where the prime local spots along with 8 Bells upstairs room with "Harveys"Masons arms upstairs,The Bali and Persepolis the night clubs of the era(early 7ts) along with some other nights in the Coop upstairs(lugging gear up their lift)(those Carlsboro and Marshall cabs where chuffing heavy)THAT WAS 35 years ago bluddy northern soul to old for me only jocking since 67/68 so havent been on the scene long enough.
  8. Just make sure he plays nothing by Shaking Stevens and Sugar Dumpling 10 times by Sam Cooke he normally does and if he sings god help you
  9. Thats 4450 records that can be spun how many repeats and how many different versions plus how many instrumentals would be played. aaah that would be a couple of good weeks and all for no petrol money plus a tenner venue required and a date when all jox and collectors available, have the rig and needles ready,
  10. apart from a couple have tried to avoid booking other promoters Cressy this year being the exception and he was booked on merit from the praise given to him on here. and when DJ's of the calibre of Soul Sam have to open a venue to play out it will deffo be the time to pack in.

  15. No matter whether its ortofon,Stanton,Shure.Citronic, Sony If yer not on a stage and the dance floor bounce isnt being absorbed all dex will jump unless precautions are taken be careful what decks are used as some venues I have attended are utilising amateur dex and you feel so uncomfortable, so hopefully all promoters are utilising good equipment not just Styli/cartridges
  16. or even earlier although Bestside has a good reputation
  17. 6ts southern soul Memphis based and ok imo but not worth 1500 dollars or whatever it cost.
  18. ebay.co.uk are now very much involved and a few months ago had an item sold and send to a secondary address, once after numerous purchases and no problems, the above part of the ebay family has taken over UK accounts and as mine was a membership with Ebay.com has caused me a few problems as the address i sent it to is no longer there, and the same with the person who lived at that address, so my new batch of sales could easily be sent to the same address, although i have reregistered my current abode with above companies, So I believe it is since .co.uk branch of Ebay has taken more responsibility for our safe keeping that it has got worse, Tried talking to ebay and paypal, but one is passing the buck to the other am still waiting for a useful answer and solution from them "Hell freezing over seems the word" IMO
  19. and in my case lots of lovely memories of the audience, the artists and the ambience by far the No 1 Weekender not by no's but by reputation git along and see for yourself
  20. There are only a certain no of nights a DJ can appear at there are only a certain no of venues a DJ can appear at there are a lot of good DJs out there and not all get booked every week some DJs are in demand more than others, so not all DJs can always come to a venue more than when he is asked to appear only if it is local to him. we have at Sweetsoul booked Dave Rimmer (dont expect to see him at my venue more than on the night as he lives a long way away)But will see him at places like the 100 club or Cleethorpes weekender when we meet up, Because I booked him to appear on his reputation, and because he is a good Charismatic DJ. The same applies to Soul Sam,Nige Brown,Sam Evans,Chris Forrest,Tats,Rob Smith, but some of them have popped in and said hello. as a promoter and DJ will have other local DJs who are as good as Dave to DJ, but like to give our audience a choice of whether they want to come and someone different to see. and differing across the board music same applies at Hornecastle we like something a bit Different, so we book accordingly.
