  1. i have a nice gospel/soul record by The Dixie Nightingales (ollie and the nightingales pre-secular music) called "i dont know"/ "keep on trying" on the Chalice label.. The publishing is east music or whatever, same as stax. Is Chalice a stax label? Any other artists on the label? jacob
  2. Well as stated offer your services, your obviously a very knowledgable guy on the subject Bob. Surely such a massive undertaking will have missing elements and possibly incorrect entries etc, but geez talk about critical, if it was as full of errors and holes as Sheffield United's back four then i'd accept such views, but i think its being slightly pedantic Bob. Ps in the Indies i see records i have (soul) that are not covered etc, didn't spoil the whole volumes for me and i for one was happy to scour the pages etc. Brett
  3. Ps... think folks are being rather picky about things missing, garage tunes etc, lets not underestimate the importance of this work, The R'n' B Indies quite rightly won the 2001 ARSC award for best research in the field of record labels or manufacturers. It's an amazing encyclopaedic exploration of African American music and deserves to be lauded as such....................hell there may even be crossover in there.......... Brett
  4. Having bought all the original R'n'B Indies volumes at their inception (remember having to wait for Vols. 2, 3, to be completed) i also got this email the other day, it looks a perfect compliment to an already amazing body of work and an invaluable resource for any serious fan/collector.....Mine are ordered. Brett
  5. Oh yes, that's another deffo for me and added to my must purchase list. Well done all the guys at Ace/Kent, looks to be another deep ballad cracker.

  8. i was on my travels last night , when the radio station ( Radio Sheffield ) the car radio was tuned into , played the TM remix pf Finishing Touch's " Second Best ( Is Never Enough ) " . Just how good is that track ? I thought the original was good , but the remix is excellent . Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy . Well done to you and all concerned Ian Malc
  9. Excellent, will definitely be purchasing a copy. Ian i read with interest [ EMS] i think that you were trying to obtain access to a shed load of unreleased PIR stuff, hope its not to cheeky to ask how that's going. Many thanks Garv

  14. Ps............I'm intrigued to hear how bad....Teenage Sweetheart..is............ Brett Franklin
  15. Fabulous stuff Neil, this is the real deal for me, i've always been a vociferous reader of music led books and when it's soul related then my lips moisten, i've searched high and low and read many a good industry led publication, and this project certainly excites my literary passion. Hats off and bring it on. Brett
  16. i for one can't wait to read it, anything that tim writes is so informative, why would it matter if he wasn't there at the beginning, were the authors of books detailing the napoleonic wars there??? i'm sure he will have all the facts covered by his many contacts that were!
  17. nice bloke our tim,but he wern,t there early doors.......hard to write about that which you were not a party to....peggy b

  22. Looks like another essential purchase Tony, keep 'em coming!!
  23. ...Just so everyone's kept in the loop, Kent's next essential southern soul CD (after this one and Spencer Wiggins) will be out at the end of July: Jimmy Hughes - Something Extra Special - The Complete Volt Recordings (i.e. the album, the non-album 45 and a staggering fourteen fabulous unissued tracks!) I've just been approving the finished master - it really, really lives up to its title, especially the four unissued titles from the Royal Studios session with Hi Rhythm, and Al Jackson in the producer's chair...
  24. ..Lobsterissimus Bumbakissimus, eh? I've just been down to rehearsals for the weekend, in time to hear the first ever live performance of 'Breaking Point'... ...Both Spencer and Percy are really up for the weekend and can't wait to sing for y'all. TONE PS - I'm not going to change your sheets again, Mr. Hampsey....
