  1. Given that two of the four founding 'Village Soul' DJs - Gary Thomas and myself - were not asked if we'd like to participate in this event, I think it's stretching it a bit to say the 'the original Norfolk Village Saturday night residents are back together again...' Nevertheless it would be uncharitable of me to wish you all anything other than a smashing night.
  2. That's interesting reading. I remember seeing Sutch and Freddy Mack playing live back then - maybe these guys were involved. But for some reason have absolutely no recollection of Sonny Childe from that era AT ALL. He just wasn't on my radar - either on vinyl or live. Having said that sounds like that band would really have "ripped up" the stage - like a lot of those great British R&B/soul bands from the mid-60's. MB
  3. Simply grateful for being there the first time around - don't think my teeth can grow any longer - munching on the same old carrot. Enjoy !!
  4. Did they not approach this forum during 2010 . The exclusion of the Highland Room is rather laughable, and poorly sited, but then it must of been so far in front off it's self, it had not left the Scottish, the midland's or even the north of England's council estates. Did the north not have a credited Jazz/Funk scene - Yes ? .
  5. Just looked at the Mod one...makes me wonder how much footage there still is out there...Delxxx
  6. Remember standing in the record bar at Wigan the first time I personaly heard DILY when it was still covered up.....I'll never forget that buzz......RIP Frank, you were one of the few that made a song 'work' .
  7. How can anyone not like the ultimate no 1 soul anthem !
  8. A legend and a real gentleman. Great memories of him at the Cala Gran with Kenny Burrell and his copy of Frank's Soul single. Surreal moment. What a show there too, DILY, My Sugar Baby etc with Snake Davis live. Took the roof off - and he didn't consider himself a performer! God bless Frank.
  9. Good tribute from dave brown on the Motown shoe tonite

  20. Been a pleasure and a great privilege to have met you and to have loved your music. RIP sir
  21. Saw him DJ couple of years ago the build up was better than the end product shall we say hopefully things have changed for the better Also demanded a seat behind the decks for him and his partner had about 10 people in the room most left and went to the modern room Don't think I would rush to see him again
  22. So Sad to hear that another legend has lost his human form. Legend is distinguished from the genre of chronicle by the fact that legends apply structures that reveal a moral definition to events, providing meaning that lifts them above the repetitions and constraints of average human lives and giving them a universality that makes them worth repeating through many generations. The above is certainly appropriate for Mr Wilson, I for one wish to hear his vocal & written musical presence for as many more years as I can. R.I.P Frank
