Phew, looking at your lengthy list you've a few good un's...as far as i can see these are the only boots/second issues: POETS (originally on Symbol) DYKE & BLAZERS (originally on Original Sound) SAPPHIRES (originally on ABC) DALTON BOYS (originally on V.I.P) having said that, there is a £75 (or thereabouts) record in there, presuming it's an original ABC 45...the Jackie Lee - One For The Road should have the Northern Soul in-demander 'Darkest Days' on the flip. Thanks for that Mike, 'Open The Door...' is a good modernised version, yeah that's Willie Garcia ex Midniters lead vocalist. 'open...' would'nt sound out of sorts at any venue! love to hear Jaggerz version of 'i'll never forget you'.

mmm...difficult one, the thing is there are loads of young people (17-30) who are well into the Rock n Roll / Rockabilly scence and paying high prices for rare Rock n Roll records, i've seen 'em at record fairs and the such in their heavy denim jeans, leather jackets and quiffs! the same will be said for Northern Soul records, lets face it, our kids know that they're valuable even if they don't particluarly care at the moment (they will do when we croak it and they think there's some mullah to be made that's for sure!). I've talked about this many times with friends and I still think there will be a Soul scene of some sort in another 30/40 years...it'd be interesting what other people think. One thing's for sure, the 60's especially will always be a very collectable era with oldies and youngsters alike...some see as the epitome of music. Meanwhile, here's one to ponder...is swing, jazz etc from the 1940's still collectable? Perhaps all the o.a.p's can't afford them on their pensions!

Holby City is all make believe of course and after we'd finished shooting the scene, the patient was released from the operating theatre sent home. We had two or three more scenes to shoot and I was chatting to the make up girls later between takes. One of them mentioned the patient and how it had been easy for them that day because although the prosthetics department had to simulate the open heart surgery for the camera, they had nothing at all to do to make the patient look really ill. That patient was Rob Messer. " I have a feeling the epsode in qusetion is due either this week or next week.

had this a few years back (car boot special 10p)...subsequently traded with my old pal pez. Want another copy...how much will I be prepared to pay, heard different things... £40, £60, £100???

Len Barry's unreleased version did get a release over here about 20 years ago on one of the early Kent l.p's 'FOOTSTOMPERS' ...think Ady mentions a bit about it in the sleeve notes.

This has probably been discussed already (i'm new) but aint that Rob Messer on the 'More Than' insurance advert? I'm pretty sure it is and that 'Keep it vinyl' sticker he puts in his windscreen is a bit of a giveaway... already seen him on 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' in one of the line-up's. Has he got friends in high places? Whatever next...Eastenders, The Bill, Corrie???

Yeah, see what you what you mean now Pete...just gave it a quick spin. I have heard a few people slag off some of the recent batch of Soul-City 45s...it's a pity really 'cos they've come up with some great rarities, from memory (it's in my UK box somewhere) the Sam Dees 'Lonely...' sounds ok. Thanks for the tip on cleaning...why waste cash on cleaning fluids when good old soap and water does the trick!

Great tune, but it's best to buy the UK issue on Soul City NOW , lets not beat about the bush...it's the first UK outing for this tune.. surely making it an original UK issue?, in 10 years or so we'll all be jumping hoops to get a copy...and it's crisp! Nabay (love it or loath it) springs to mind, they go for quite a bit on Grapevine now, don't they? I know there was a demand for the Grapevine copy a couple of years ago...sold mine for £20 then realised they were going for £60+...!!!! Anyway, to the subject of cleaning 45s, can anyone tell me the best way to get rid of mould. Some of my vinyl gets mouldy really easy and i'm having a hard job getting rid. Bought some of that record cleaning fluid but i might have just as well pissed on it for all the good it done! Anyone got any suggestions?

check out King's V.I.P album for Motown....'Take The Place Of A Dying Man' is an absolute corker just waiting to be added to the long list of non Motown 45 favourite plays!

As I recall it's got two diff mixes on each side but both have been re-mastered, the only way to get the 'original' version on vinyl is by one of those white label re-issues. Still, the UK copy with pic sleeve IS the first release vinyl wise so has to be worth keeping hold of. Hate it when they mess about with great tunes and try to "modernise" them!

hey Mike, version by the Stoppers (Jubilee) is considered the best and does go for a tidy sum, still think the version by Thee Midniters has an equally soulful backing....only just about a dancer, mid-tempo to ballad really as opposed to mid-tempo to dancer. (eh?) Not heard the Roddie Joy version. I will champion Thee Midniters version, also like their 'Evil Love'.

Hey Tony, do you have the 'Come Back Baby' 45? How come it's not listed anywhere? How rare do you think it is? I like them as well, if you have their album 'Unlimited' (Whittier 5001) there's a great non 45 track 'Cheatin' Woman' which has an almost crossover feel to it.

Tell you what... saw 'Supergrass' do a version of this on t.v about 3 years ago!

yeah, it's another of those 'blue eyed' groups i was on about earlier! Originally called the Del-Chords then changed to the Magnificent Men, a great group in my opinion and their first album is chock full of out and out Northern soul! the lead singer & writer (Dave Bupp) is now a big soul collector and well into the Northern sound!

looks like someone beat me to it anyway! some like these white groups, some don't. i don't mind them myself, Embers are another blue eyed group i quite like also...

Just joined yesterday, I have put the track onto a CD already, how do put it onto a sound clip for this site then? I'll gladly do it for you as soon as I get the hang of it! My copy has a car on the label and it's a deep orange colour, must be worth a bob or two. I do know their 'It'll Never Be Over For Me' and I love it also. I do have a selection of their stuff including a great L.P, I know their stuff goes for quite a bit, especially 'It'll never Be Over For Me' and 'Your'e Gonna Make Me Cry'. thanks for replying, John

Just found a 45 by blue eyed soulsters 'Thee Midniters'. It's a great version of the in-demand Stoppers tune 'Come Back Baby'...it's on Whittier 200 and i've never seen it listed anywhere, it's not even in their discography! Anybody know this or got a copy? It has to be a rare one...any info on this 45 will be much appreciated. I paid $40 for it from a shop in New York.

how much is the 'Thee Midniters' l.p up for? Just found a 45 of theirs... 'Come Back Baby' same as the Stoppers, never seen it before, its not even in their discography! It's a brilliant blue eyed version, must be a rare one! let me know about the album, Soul-Slider
