  1. Now there's news to brighten up a Monday, as they say Mark - You've got the right face for radio! You belong on the airwaves mate. Any notion when the regular spot will be day / time ? Have circled Oct 14th on my Scenic Views of Mansfield Calendar 6 'til 8, I'll be listening in. Be good to hear the "OOOOOOHHHH"s ringing out again. Best wishes to you, Dean.

errrrm.................There's a sceptic in me that thinks there's some clever witty dude starts the topic and takes bets on how many posts it will run to, or hands out word bingo to play. Tailor made to get us going. Some interesting points, lot of person baiting. Seem to recall a recent topic "What makes a good northern DJ", presume that got sorted then. Perhaps we should get out more, only to worthy nights of course. You do know there's porn on the tinter web don't you?? (Just in case you were waiting for "porn"...BINGO!)

Similar but not as financialy rewarding. 1977 a second hand record store in Jersey Channel Islands, picked up Tony Middleton and Bobby Matos - Already Satisfied, off back of Paris Blues. Still got it, still play it, still think it's a top tooooooon, just unrecognised. Dean

As for your comments which seem to be aimed at THE ATTIC , sorry m8 two totally differant venues(UNION) , both absolutely fantastic in there own right. No clashes, no back biting , no politics and none of this Bollox about overkill FFS
  5. Thanks for response. Also on Galaxy as Thompin, quite easy to get. John Manship has it (35007) on his site as N/A, does that mean he's had it on? I'm aware this thread is self- indulgent but all advice gratefully received. Dean
  6. Yep, got that one. On orig Motown lists 112 is Edwin Starr, WHICH appears on Motown M1284F siNgle but don't know if there was ever a 35112 promo or studio of this. Number was withdrawn and re-assigned to Originals single. BUTTTTTT - just picked up a promo 35121 from Craig Moerer really cheap. No idea if this is a sound (title not particularly promising) but any label addict will understand, COME ON MR POSTMAN!!! Bless you Craig Moerer. Thanks for the scan of that one, just coincidence have picked it up today - 121 is on Motown Co list as never issued.
  7. I'm sure that in between all the funding issues you've enjoyed providing us with this gem over the last 7 (is it really 7) years Mark. There should be some sort of "Contribution to the Northern scene" award.................. Consider yourself nominated. Top show from the heart Mark. Look forward to seeing on at some venues. Always a deck for you at the Attic (you do so well on just one deck!), expect to see you in bigger venues than ours though. Very best wishes in all you do, Dean.
  8. Thanks for the advice wilxy - appreciated. Dean
  9. Recently completed (I think!) Motown SOUL label collection S35001-S35123 issues (still working on demos - a man needs a hobby). To my knowledge there are 9 unissued: 35007, Merced Blue Notes - Do the Pig 35009, Earl Van Dyke & The Soul Brothers - All for You 35019, no need to mention really 35086, David and Jimmy Ruffin - Lo and Behold 35089, Blinky - How You Gonna Keep It 35101, Bob Babbitt -Gospel truth (missed an acetate of this a few years ago on ebay - although listed as B side 'Running like a Rabbit' at the time) 35112, Edwin Starr - Ain't it Hell Up In Harlem 35114, Jr Walker - You Are the Sunshine of My Life 35121, Originals (Call on Your) Six-Million Dollar Man Any information? Anyone seen promo copies of any of these? Anyone have promo copies of any of these??? I know some are available on other Motown labels, some I've got. Just curious, thanks, Dean.
  10. I think there's only so much you can do. Honourable people bother about these things, the others don't. Did you include a photo on ebay that you could refer to? I think for items expecting £50 and above it's worth a picture or scan of more than the label. May be worth asking if the packaging is damaged at all, under the excuse of following it up with postal service, or more directly ask if he's opened it with a pair of garden shears! Hope it works out
  11. Any news on Carl? I've just had a text (won't say who from) adding to the rumours mentioned above on this thread. Heard off Steve Studge and Phil Kingswood that a Folk House reuinion is in the offing, he needs to back on the floor for that one surely. Best wishes Carl, hope to see you soon, Dean

payment sent for Jamal Trice. Big thanks to Kev Holmes for phoning me, drinks on me Kev.............that's it, last issue collected!!!!

PM sent, let me know if still available, that's a definite want. Will have a look through others, some bargains in this list. Dean.
  14. Not read it all, and don't expect people to read this. I did notice that Carol who won at prestatyn was announced as Carol from Burnley. What happened to Carol from Todmorden Carol? That was the day when everyone was somebody from somewhere rather than their pseudonym on SS. For my note Carol is a worthy contender. For another I'd like to recall a bloke called Pip who I met at Warrington Parr Hall, he was going out with Cathy Kirby (no, Cathy queen of the go-go from Bradford) ......... he was bloody good. Anyone know him or what became of him? Oh, and by the way, whilst I'm on here........... Mandy where are my tapes? Have you fell out with the Attic, check out our next guests........................... and see Gary Churm in flambouyant action ( nice post Kev H). Dean
  15. Not got a very big garden, makin do with Herb Ward and Toni Basil.
  16. Tell me is it just a rumour or do they serve choc mints with the coffee called Before Eights, I think you get three? Angry people - the kind of publicity money can't buy!
  17. I can't believe anyone goes in there and eats the whole thing!!!!! da da dadumda dadum
  18. Yeh Drew, kinda instict to know there's so many that I can't bring to mind. The humphrey stomp is a good start though!! Thought it may have been covered before - just idle late night curiosity. The image of a "proper" dance competion will haunt my dreams. Dean.
  19. Forgot an obvious one: The Statue, Tommy Sands. Less obvious, there's a Cotton, by The Duvals, which is a dance but is at that border of Rock N' RnB.
  20. I'm hoping I've uploaded an image here, but not sure. Neither am i sure about the term original when it comes to badges (I'm better with records). I did go th Phoenix (nights), but he whole decade is something of a blur now. dean
  21. Apologies if this has been done before - I don't get on-site as much as I'd like. Got to thinking of some favourite dance titles, and does anyone know how to do these? The 81 (Candy & The Kisses) The 45 (The Sharpees) Skate (Invitations / Lou Courtney) The Thing (Lou Courtney) The LaRue (Lada Edmund jr) Shing-a-ling (Cooperettes) Slow Fizz (Saphires) The Push & Kick (Mark Valentino - flip to Walking Alone) Crossfire (Sammy Sevens) Gallop (Milton wright) Several Horses, mules, jerks, dogs, ducks,........... Any more odd ones? Now this would be a dancing competition I'd like to see. ATTIC SOUL CLUB, MANSFIELD, CHECK EVENTS, 7th APRIL
  22. When you buy records you've already got....................and not always in error. When you scour designer luggage for anything that holds 7"x7" When, as 50 approaches, your new potential life-partner has just made the error of saying "You seem to go to a lot of soul nights - couldn't we..................Dean, Dean, wait a minute!"
  23. Place your bets on kicked out first!!!!!!!!!!!! No please please no responses, Dean

I gave this a play at our Attic night (Mansfield), from the 202 keep On Lovin' / A Memory Best Forgotten. I'm sure I recall seeing one in Cressy's box for sale at Annesley several weeks ago, didn't check flip though. Dean.
  25. Just come back to see What does make a good DJ, glad we've cleared it up.............am I right in thinking it's her. Don't follow all the Notts knocking. Not 'afraid' to play anything we think is good at the ATTIC. Some people won't like our night, that's fine.......don't expect everyone to like the same. I do dance.........hey what makes a good dancer......no forget it. I remember at John Vincents Sams night Christmas 05. Pat Brady was on. In the middle he dropped Earl Wright - Thumb a ride. Normally I'd not be leaping out of my seat for this, but at the time it just fit right in there. That night for me Pat was a good DJ. I remember it as I was smiling to myself dancing to Thumb a Ride. Timing. Dean (Penford - to avaoid confusion), on the 'Scene' in Notts, but not a very good dj
