  1. Fair comment although what makes a named DJ is probably another debate, and your example doesn't quite make the 'named DJ' status for me, again subjective I know
  2. Named DJs aren't so just because they own original records, it's also because they usually know what originals to play and in which order to play them, and I am reliably informed most of them don't charge a kings ransom anyway, If the 'majority' of the floor are up and down like a yo-yo, at the end of it all they haven't had a great night and often can't quite put their finger on why, don't go back very often, less money for the promoter,
  3. But Chalky, if that's the case they aren't getting booked because they are young, they are getting booked because they bring an entourage,
  4. I agree, as would anyone, but where does it crossover from one to the other? That can be very subjective, there are some very youthful 30 year olds and then again some very dull and grumpy 20 year olds,
  5. While I have been interested in the thread throughout, I don't remember much about promoters deliberately letting young people dj, because they're young. but I could've missed it which indicates that if that's the case then there wasn't many, which (again) was my point,
  6. And they're off What about 25 and a half?
  7. Paul I'm 54 so 35 is young to me, I dare say a 20 year old thinks 35 is knocking on a bit, so it all boils down to what you have in your box and how well you can present them, irrespective of age, I doubt many promoters build age into the thought process when booking DJs, and why should they?
  8. Then we would have a multi-page thread debating what constitutes as 'young' and who decides
  9. Sorry, I'm not sure why you have quoted me, the post I originally quoted categorically stated 'What 20 year old is going to be able to spend £300 - £400 regularly on records' so I assumed he didn't mean 'anyone' and that's what I replied to, I'm kind of saying the monetary aspect applies to everyone, therefore agreeing with you
  10. Steve maybe I'm not articulating my point very well, everybody regardless of age prioritises stuff, prefers doing some stuff rather than other stuff, that's prioritising, When I was 20 I don't suppose I physically made a list either, we all have a mental list, and when I finished work on a Friday my first 'priority' was the pub, and things didn't change much for the next 20 years, In fact no, my first priority was something to eat, then a shower, then the pub, see there's a list forming
  11. Steve at 20 when deciding if you want to go on holiday or buy a car or go to the pub every night or spend all your cash on designer clothes or just save up to get your own place you will be putting whatever you choose to do at the top of your list of priorities
  12. Proof that what takes me paragraphs to say can be said in a dozen or so words
  13. Where I work there are 20 year olds on exactly the same money as me, I can guarantee with very few exceptions they all have much more left over than me after outgoings, drive nicer cars, and enjoy nicer holidays, It all depends where on an individuals list of priorities they place original records, and what they are prepared to sacrifice in order to fund them,
  14. I'm just saying when I was 20 I was doing the same job I do now and in relative terms I had more money to spend then than I do now, just a pity I wasn't collecting records then, If out of work, or up to the neck in debt then funding any hobby is difficult, regardless of age,
  15. Which goes to show how brittle your point is, who's to say anyone can or can't afford records, it was you that put all 20 year olds in the skint bracket
  16. Wish I was 20 years old, living at home, working full time and tipping me Mam a few quid for 'keep', I would have more disposable income for records than I do currently,
  17. Now you're just being really silly and straying way off topic,
  18. The South is wider than the North but it's still the South, further dividing it into South East or South West just makes it more accurate, but it's still the South
  19. I'm confused Paul, where's the South then? I like to think I'm from up North because I live in the North West, similarly people in the West Midlands are still in the Midlands ...........aren't they?
  20. Would this not be better placed in 'Offers and Auctions'? If folk hear about it it would be the first place they look, Edit - Now it's been moved can someone remove this post? it's a bit pointless now
  21. This sounds to me as though it's not necessarily a convincing counterfeit, but more a record that people in the main have come to assume is an original but isn't, I'm sure I read on here a few years back that we all thought we were in possession of an original Cashing in - Voices of East Harlem when in fact a lot of them aren't, (I could've dreamt that) that's not my guess, just a different take on the statement 'everyone sells it as an original' maybe not intentionally?
  22. Richard, I was hedging my bets with the 'boot' reference, would be surprised also if it was booted,
  23. Mines a green label issue, or boot as the case may be
  24. I can't answer that, but not sure what you mean by 'ever', back in the day as in the Wheels first incarnation, or last month, or any time in-between?
  25. Only just seen this, Done
