  1. Much the same as Soul was called Tamla Motown by those out of the know, Ska was called Blue Beat. Suppose it was a easyily indentifiable label that people picked up on and the name stuck. Blue Beat ran until 1967 so it wasn't only the early stuff released on there. While on the subject I've bought a copy of Big Charlie - You May Not Believe/Red Sun on Blue Beat. I'd picked this up not knowing much about it as I can't find it listed in the Record Collector guide (or much information about it on the web) I only paid about a tenner so can't go wrong really. Perhaps Mr Smith can enlighten me?? He'll probably come back as say it's common as muck but I think it's a well decent tune

I thought the bottom had dropped out of the needle fluff collecting scene, surely the way forward is belly button fluff, ear wax or toe jam from the dj's

  10. Pete, I've tried looking in the sales section and I can't find your listing. Point me in the right direction mate
  11. And no more arguments about vinyl vs cd Maybe now the cd dj's will join forces with the vinyl dj's and shun the ipod dj's
  12. Must be that that's the better money, I was gonna say there must be tons of the President copies. Oh well
  13. Surely not that sort of money on President??? If it is I'll be well
  14. Don't think so Ken, bought it off of a lady who lives in Leeds. Has the LP got your name on it? I'll have to dig it out
  15. Terrific tune Drifting, picked mine up for about £20 a few years ago. Believe it was also on the Kent compilation of Galaxy recordings, think it was called Black Music Is Our Business or something like that in honour of the the MIOB label (which was part of the Galaxy group) and the label Drifting is on
  16. Think it's canadian release I've got, I could be wrong though (I often am ) Mine's got the picture cover as well, nice pictures of the group I'll dig it out so you can all have a laugh
  17. I'd heard Manship shifted a couple at £50 each and they went like hot cakes (maybe even hot chocolate cakes )

I've asked on here before for info on this but seeing as the subject of Volt releases has come up here goes again, anyone out there have any idea how hard is The Hawg (Part 1 & 2) by Eddie Kirk on Volt 106?. It's a great harp lead R&B instrumental, well almost an instrumental as there are a couple of shouted lyrics over the top of the mad harp wailing. Apart from a copy I got some time ago I've only ever seen one other copy that sold on ebay a month or so ago. Is it really hard to get or have I just been looking in the wrong places?? I've attached a scan (this is the one that I mentioned sold on on ebay, mine's mint). Any info would be much appreciated, ta

  24. Rbman I can burn Mary Wells versions of Shop Around and I Love The Way You Love on to CD for you if you like, just pm me Cheers Richard
  25. Rbman You should try Mary Wells Shop Around, album only track from 1961, 1st LP on the Motown label Bye Bye Baby- I Don't Want To Take A Chance, quite hard to get on original white and blue label. Really great version plus it's just that little bit different to hear the female version (if you know what I mean). Also on the LP is a another album only version of I Love The Way You Love, the Marv Johnson hit. Again another splendid version. Cheers Richard
