Vintage Soul Radio Show Sunday 25th January 2009 # 257
Hi Barry! Excellent show as usual! My favourites this time: Africano - Satisfactorize Your Mind Lil Fallay - I Wanna Make Love To You Luther Ingram - Don't Turn Around Artistics - Yesterday's Girl Ted Taylor - I'm Lonely Tonight Lattimore Brown - Nobody Has To Tell Me Nobody's Child - All My Friends Call Me A Fool Dells - You Changed My Life Around Futures - Love Will Be Around Forever The Dells have said many times that they won´t be touring anymore, but this time I think they´ve decided to actually call it a day. Which is a pity of course, and I have never seen them live, but I´ve found some pretty astonishing live clips on YouTube from a UK visit of theirs. Love that tune by the Futures! Possibly their finest moment IMHO. I have two versions/editions of the Castles In The Sky LP, with slightly different tracklistings! Possibly one is UK and the other US, too lazy to check now...LOL.. Best regards, Melismo (Sweden)

Sitting In The Park 1-25-2009
Hi Bob! Very interesting and enjoyable show -as always! My picks this time: Dynamic Tints - Rosemarie Volumes - Ain't gonna give you up Doris and Kelly - You don't have to worry Natural Four - I thought you were mine (As you may expect, I love NATURAL FOUR - check my avatar...LOL...) Three Prophets - I think I really love you Mike James Kirkland - Give it to me Morris Jefferson - It's the last time around for me Millionaires - Ain't no acheivement New Jersey Turnpike - Baby it's so hard Wilmer and the Dukes - I do love you Individuals - Together (we can make something happen) You wanted some more info on the group Individuals. I have a rather nice (mid-)70´s LP by a male group called the Individuals, could it be the same guys?! LP not at hand at the moment, but seem to remember that group being a trio. Some very nice vocal harmonies and a couple of really brilliant tunes on there I think. Possibly posted one of those tunes on here as a RefoSoul clip ages ago. Some of my records are in a bit of a disarray at the moment, but I can go look for the LP if you think it may be of interest? Best regards Melismo, Sweden

Is Your Collection Your Pension?
I´m not going to sell my records when I retire, because that´s when I will finally have time to listen to and enjoy all my records. I have a huge room crammed with vinyl, and being so busy at work and with family life, my only chance to really delve into my collection and play those records is when I get some free time, hope I live long and with my health intact, then I can use the last years of life to go through those stacks of records at long last...LOL...

Re: Major Harris "call Me Tomorrow"
Talking of Major Harris. Did anyone hear Gary Spence´s interview with Major Harris on Solar Radio earlier this week? I missed it, but am waiting for an upload of the show, since a friend of mine promised to record it. Anyone else who heard it and/or recorded it?

Martin Luther King Tribute Radio Show
Some very interesting info here: https://souldennis.blogspot.com/2008/08/joh...-free-1980.html I´ve been in contact with "Dennis" before, he has loads of rare records in his collection. Keith John, one of the John Brothers has been touring with Stevie Wonder for many years. When Stevie did a show in Stocholm some five years ago I was there and had the pleaure of seeing and hearing Keith John perform live on stage. Also have one late-80´s solo recording by Keith John, he is a great singer. Somehow when Sigler is the songwriter/producer of a record the vocals are normally very soulful and melismatic, maybe because the lead singers try to emulate the way Bunny vocalled them on his demo versions. Regards, Mel

Martin Luther King Tribute Radio Show
Hi Bob! Great show, or I should say great shows in the plural, because I´ve listened to both and enjoyed them immensely! However, the first link was broken, because of a space between the "o" and the "m" in "com", so I had to retype it. Out of all the brilliant tunes played I think John Brothers´ "Try to Walk a Mile" is actually my #1 favourite, a great tune written and produced by Bunny Sigler, when a record bears his signature it is bound to be soulful! Best regards Mel

Sugar Billy?
Agree, never been an expensive/rare record, but a very good one, so worth purchasing for anyone who´s into the grittier side of soul and doesn´t already own a copy! Cheers, Mel

Calvin Leavy - "thieves And Robbers"
I take it nobody has a clue?! Admittedly, Calvin Leavy is a blues man, but IMO "Thieves And Robbers" is a very soulful tune, reminds me somewhat of O.V.Wright. Cheers, Melismo
