  1. Barry, this Rapidshare access code thing is getting sillier by the minute. Can anyone explain to me how to use the "four letters with a cat below"?! God, this is just too silly, how does it work, I´ve failed again, access code wrong! Thanks in advance Melismo
  2. I´ve decided to do podcasts every now and then. I´ve joined Podomatic. Please visit: https://melismo.podomatic.com to download the first podcast + playlist. Would be interesting to know what you think about this podcast, i.e. the selection of tunes and the overall quality (whether the "mixing" sounds ok etc.). Any kind of feedback welcome Since it´s my first Podcast... well, you´ll soon spot the common denominator (LOL) for the artists featured. Podcast #2 coming shortly... Best, Melismo
  3. That must be the same group that later recorded a number of gospel/soul albums simply billed as the Williams Brothers.
  4. A previous Gary US Bonds thread: /Gary-Bo...irl-t66778.html
  5. Hi Barry! Great show! Particularly enjoyed the gospel segment, and was really floored by the Capitol City Stars. What a fantastic recording that one! Best regards Melismo
  6. Isley Brothers were relevant in the 50´s, 60´s, 70´s, 80´s, 90´s, and they are still around. They became less funky and hard-hitting, somewhere around the mid 80´s they had fully reverted to their much softer and modern approach.
  7. "I Can´t Turn Around" proved a popular song as time moved on, especially as it was remixed, reworked/covered as mentioned above. But when it was first released on the LP Chocolate Chip it was tucked away as the very last track on the LP, and not really a big tune, so don´t think it was released as a 45 back in the day, but not entirely sure. Cheers Melismo
  8. The King family have always done their utmost to keep hip-hop artists from using samples of Martin Luther King-speeches, since they believe that hip-hop as a whole is so full of negativity and is incompatible with Martin Luther King´s sentiments. As I´m sure most people on here know, Stevie Wonder was instrumental in making Martin Luther King´s birthday a national holiday in the US, hence his song "Happy Birthday" from the Hotter Than July LP.
  9. If I´m not mistaken the Richard Burton is from an album which was never (officially) released. /Mel
  10. You´ll always find the most recent Soul Discovery show archived on the 209Radio website, link below: https://www.209radio.co.uk/shows/profile.ph...w=souldiscovery And if you go to the forum you can check out the playlists and provide feedback: https://www.209radio.co.uk/forum/ Many/most indie releases of note are available via www.cdbaby.com and a number of other online stores - with soundbites, so much great music to discover, too many to mention in one post really. Hope this helps Melismo
  11. Hard to believe this has happened. Both Levert brothers died so young. My thoughts go out to the rest of the family. Thinking about Eddie Levert who outlives both his sons, imagine how he must be feeling at this moment, it´s all so tragic. Gerald & Sean were both such talented singers, songwriters and producers, also doing really nice things together with a number of other acts (Riff, Silk etc.). Sean Levert recorded at least one solo album, is there anyone who can put up one of the best tracks in honour of Sean please?!?! R.I.P. Sean

  14. Thanks Marc. I´m familiar with Rapidshare, use it myself from time to time in order to share large files. However, link still doesn´t work for me, possibly just a temporary glitch, something to do with my internet connection perhaps. You have a playlist please? I hate to hear a great track and not know what it is...LOL... Cheers Melismo
  15. Cheers Marc. Link doesn´t work for me at the mo´, but will try again. Any chance of a playlist please? Best, Melismo

  17. [quote name= Does Mr Mawhinney have a family????
  18. Sorry folks. Don´t know how I missed the original thread. (BTW, don´t think the guy´s real name was ever mentioned within that thread, instead he was referred to as the Loon, the Nutter etc...LOL). Probably a psychological thing. Guess I didn´t want to admit that there´s someone who owns more records than I do.. Yes, I did know that some UK soul collectors visited Paul Mawhinney a few years ago buying some of the best soul/R&B 45s. Anyways, I´m impressed. This guy is dedicated... I´m going to show the missus these links, she keeps telling me that our (my) room full of vinyl is madness, but this puts things in perspective... Does Mr Mawhinney have a family????!!!!! Cheers, Mel
  19. The world´s greatest record collection for sale! Loads of soul/R&B in there too. https://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...c/s_547964.html https://www.thegreatestmusiccollection.com/index.html All you serious record collectors, I´m sure you have loads of records, but not as many as this guy I presume... Best, Mel
  20. Yes, I think it´s really nice. Have it on the 1981 Splash LP. You have it, or want it? I can provide you with an upload if you need it?! Cheers Mel
  21. I have loads of mp3s on my harddrive (most of them ripped from vinyl), and I´m going to delete many of them, but before I do I might as well upload them here, since some of them may be of interest to other forum members. So here we go... Best, Melismo
  22. Thanks Jonte! Downloading right now. Do you by any chance have a tracklist for this mix? Cheers M
  23. Mine is also on Freewebs: www.freewebs.com/melismo Regards Melismo
  24. I have that album, but don´t think I´ve ever actually listened to it, so will have to do that now. Gutted to hear about his death. Buddy Miles is one of my favourite artists. So versatile, having a go (successfully) at so many different genres of music. Digging out some Electric Flag, Buddy Miles Express, old solo albums, newer CDs etc. Will treat myself to lots of Buddy Miles during the next few days. Always loved his powerful singing, his lively drumming, highly respected his songwriting skills etc. R.I.P. Buddy Miles
  25. Hi Barry! Cheers for posting playlist and soundfile! Enjoyed the show - in particular the Ben Wiggins and Charles Johnson. Best regards Melismo
