  3. Wow, I really like both sides. Have played the funk side out quite a bit and got lots of queries about it....and the ballad side the foxy young bartender at my weekly gig used to INSIST I play every week!
  4. Hello, sweetheart. An under-the-radar favorite of mine. More for the funk folks, though, no?
  5. I'm holding a copy in my hand that I'm 99 percent certain is original based on where I got it (American dealer with a run of Coasters singles 20 years ago). The notable differences: 1. 65C instead of 65L as noted. Very distinctly different. 2. In the 9290 marking, the 2 on my copy isn't looped on the lower left like yours; the bottom stroke is straight across, horizontal. A different style of 2. 3. The runout groove itself on my copy is different: a very tight grouping of four grooves close to the label. 4. My copy has other markings in the deadwax that seem to be missing from yours: a hand-drawn LW, a hand-drawn AT right near it, a hand-drawn M or W on the opposite end, and on the "Crazy Baby" side only what appears to be a tiny S inside a tiny circle or spade shape.
  6. Vampisoul has put out a new compilation I assembled of killer R&B sides originally released on the King and Federal labels from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s. It's strictly legit "all tracks officially licensed and procured directly from the master tapes. It's called "Teach Me to Monkey" (one of the standout tracks is "Mom, Won't You to Teach Me to Monkey" by a precocious child named Little Emmett Sutton). It's available as either a 20-track CD or a beautiful box of 10 slick reissue 45s! Both packages include rarely seen photos of many of the artists and a little essay I wrote.... https://www.amazon.com/Vol-1-R-Hipshaker ... B003BQVDC4 Volume 2, "Scratch That Itch," is in the can, and we're working on Volume 3! M
  7. It's absurd to call anything the rarest record in the world. Obviously, given the number of one-offs in collections, there's something like a 2,000-way tie for first when it comes to "rarest."
  8. Fairly certain I have a clean spare of this if anyone still needs one. Email me offlist with an offer that takes into account the discussion above.... Matt finewine@wfmu.org
  9. One side of it's here: https://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/7237 Click on realaudio link; song starts around 3:07.
  10. Just picked up 4 copies of the Royal Silvertones on Sharp: "Savior, Don't Pass Me By"/"Build Me a Cabin"....all are VG++ (basically unplayed) with slight storage warp/dish that doesn't affect play and stamps on label. Both sides are absolute genius raw, soulful gospel movers! $40 apiece, first come first served. Paypal only Shipping is $4 U.S., $7 international. E-MAIL TO RESERVE: finewine@wfmu.org
  11. Larry Meadows, "Such a Lonely Boy"/"Don't Hide Your Love" (Regency) unplayed M- (could use a good wash; there's a bit of grease/grime on the vinyl) $60 plus $7 shipping from U.S. paypal only
  12. Is it really too much trouble to mention the record you're seeking the value of up top so we don't have to open every single post that says VALUE PLEASE? Sheesh. I understand if you've got a long list, but when it's one or two, come on....
  13. I've seen four different looks for "Dust My Broom" on U.S. Tangerine: 1. Orange stock copy, label number 967 with flip "I'm Hooked" 2. White promo of above with both sides 3. Red and black stock copy, label number 1019 with flip "Anything You Wasn't Born With" 4. Black and white promo of above with both sides Is any of them rarer or more desirable than the others? "Dust My Broom" clocks at 2:01 on versions 1 and 2 above, at 2:20 on 3 and 4. Is it a different recording? Or a different mix? Or just a different edit? Are there single-sided or double-A-sided promos floating around too? Thanks.
  14. There's plenty I could say, but I choose to bite my tongue.
  15. Almost sounds like they used a backing track left over from some other project....Vocals aren't really a good fit.
  16. What a GREAT record! Never knew it till finding one in a Pittsburgh shop a few weeks ago, then played it on the radio two Fridays ago....It's a version of "Anabacoa"...or vice versa...there seem to be several variations on the theme.
  17. Miles Stone, Too Many Tears/Pop the Whip (Monogram) I just found 3 spares of this new breed R&B killer: 1. Mint-minus stock copy, $125 2. VG+ promo copy (on a scale without E), X's and stamp and pencil scribble on flip-side label, $90 3. Strong VG stock copy, slight writing on flip-side label, $60 Email to reserve: finewine@wfmu.org Paypal only.
  18. Brand-new, unplayed copy of "Evil Women." $175, paypal only, same day, plus shipping from U.S. First come, first served. E-mail to reserve: finewine@wfmu.org
  19. Okay, I'd missed that earlier conversation. I was just surprise to be trolling through closed items, come upon this biggie, and play it, only to find that it's a (yes, superior by any measure) cover of a common Okeh track.
  20. Does anyone know what the extent of Lloyd Price's and Double L's Detroit connections were? Buddy Lamp, Wilson Pickett, some interconnectedness with Tuba....but was Price himself based in Detroit at any point? Do we consider Double L a Detroit label?

  22. "No one here in the US knows it"? Puh-leez. I prefer the other side, actually. Though not for dancing. Just sounds great at the bar with a drink in hand and a lady on the arm.
  23. Nobody??
  24. I see your lips movin' but I don't hear a word you're sayin'...
  25. No idea, but here it is on a sale thread for less than I remembered:
