    Listen Up

After false starts at two venues we've finally found a new home in the Basement 'Den' of The Micklegate Social in York. It's a cracking venue with a very nice bar - and a cool basement for our night. It's only a couple of minutes walk from York Station and there's a well lit big car park a minute away from the bar on Nunnery Lane - so really easy to get to. What you'll get is rare and underplayed soul, funky edged, northern, rhythm & soul, RnB, and gritty dancers. This being our first night at the new venue we thought it would be good to get a selection of local(ish) DJ's to mix it up for the occasion. Guest: Tony Hatfield, Andy Hudson, Stuart Richards & Rich Evans 7 til late | This first one is free entry From December 29th we'll be bi-monthly on Saturday nights. Hope a few of you can make it. Cheers Gaz - Dekka - Dan

Listen Up - York - Cancelled.

Sadly the venue have pulled the plug due to the volume being too loud for the venue and it's neighbours to cope with. Shame. *********************************************************************** The second installment of Listen Up at The Micklegate Social in York - It's a cracking venue with a very nice bar selection - and a cool basement for our night. It's only a couple of minutes walk from York Station and there's a well lit big car park a minute's walk from the bar on Nunnery Lane - so really easy to get to. What you'll get is rare and underplayed soul, funky edged, northern, rhythm & soul, RnB, and gritty dancers - and top drawer guest spinners. Saturday 29th December 8 til 1am ish Fiver on the door Really pleased to have three Guest DJ's of very high order - two lads who've been behind two cracking nights in Leeds over the last decade and Pat who's been guesting at progressive nights in the UK and Europe for years. There's no question that the quality of tunes from these three will be sky-high. Azza - That Driving Beat Rich Evans - Empty Bottles Pat Bleasdale - Guest spots at progressive nights everywhere! Get it in your diaries! Cheers Gaz - Dekka - Dan

    Listen Up!

Belter! Big thanks to everyone who supported us last night - cracking atmosphere from the off right through to the last tune - great to see the old York crew out in force - and new faces keeping the dance floor and the bar staff busy. Hats off to all those who travelled from all over Yorkshire and further afield - respect due. We are probably going to be moving to another venue for the next Listen Up! - watch this space. Cheers Gary

Second Installment of Listen Up! at The Woolpack Inn - York. 8.30 - 1am | Free Entry What you’ll get: Rare and underplayed soul from 65 - 70ish with a mix of Rhythm & Soul, Northern, RnB and Funky Edged Soulful Dancers. Your not going to hear many floaters and it’s not a top 500 night but I’m sure we’ll spin a few oldies at some point. Guests We want our guests to keep it fresh and relevant for today’s discerning ears. The idea is to get a couple under our belts and then start booking a few guest spinners who are at the top of their games from right across the North and further afield - you know who you are so expect a call! Getting there The venue is about a 15 minute walk from York Station. There is free parking right outside the venue for a few cars and a car park right a couple of mins walk away: https://www.york.gov.uk/directory_record/507/st_georges_field_car_park_and_coach_park_-_yo10_4ab Hopefully see a few people down. We'll be spinning a few early doors warm-up tunes from 7ish if anyone is around. Free entry too.
  13. Raw, gritty version of the Marjorie Black classic - quite a tricky 45 to get hold of. VG+ Plays great. In good shape - no pops or clicks and only very light marks NAP. Very small edge chip on the flip that doesn't go right through the vinyl. Clip for reference £180 plus post PMs please.

Listen Up! is a new night at The Crescent Club in York. Our aim is to build a solid, honest little soul club based on great tunes spun for friendly open-minded soulies. We are starting off in the front lounge bar at the club with 100 capacity and hopefully (if people start coming!) the aim is to move into the main room with a proper dance floor and much more space. The sound systems in both rooms are mint. What you’ll get: Dance-floor-focussed rare and underplayed soul from 65 - 70ish with a mix of Rhythm & Soul, Northern, RnB and Funky Edged Soulful Dancers. Getting there The venue is only 5 minutes walk from York Station. There is a car park right outside the venue and a bigger car park a couple of mins walk away. There’s a taxi rank just outside too and a chippy or KFC if you get peckish! There’s other good boozers close by if you get to York and fancy a few cheeky ones early doors. Residents After residencies, promoting and guest spots for loads of nights including Empty Bottles, Driving Beat, Black Bee, York Soul Club, Dogs Bollocks, Whitby, Drax, Roots Room, Beat Club etc. etc we got to thinking of starting a night in York a good while back but finding a venue in York is pretty tough. Thankfully Bob and his team at The Crescent are up-for-it and want this night to be a success just as we do. York has been blessed with some fantastic soul nights over the years, put on by some of the nicest people you could wish to meet - Holgate, York, YK Soul, There Was A Time etc - and hopefully we can play a part in the next few years of Soul in York. Hopefully see a few people down for our first night. Cheers - Gary Brown, Dekka, Dan Guest
