If some really rare records are not being played by dj's then the price may stay relatively cheap and make the records affordable as far less people will be chasing them. Maybe not cheap but something where you can justify a higher price due to rarity.

Yes agree particulary the last paragraph. Not sure it could ever happen now though. cloest I saw to this was my trips over to Europe where it was nearly all younger crowd.

Thanks rob. judging the music on its merits as quality soul music irrespective of weather it is a classic northern soul scene record and regardless of tempo seems like the best way to go. some big money highly regarded records leave me cold and I don’t hear the quality. But others I fully understand the admiration and reputation. the real cream will rise to the top.

Yes true. I think there is some merit in having a younger scene within a scene if that is possible in any kind of way. i do feel soul music stands alone in its appeal and longevity. I can’t think of another genre as good. apologies for going a little of topic but it’s all age related.

I wonder what people would think today if they went to an all nighter and it was full of 15 to 18 year olds ? Maybe need 2 scenes side by side one for young to learn the ropes and one for the old guard....

Do you ever envisage the classic house music of that era commanding really high prices ? and some kind of revival in the way northern did ? My time was roughly 93 to 97 so a bit after the clubs you mentioned but I have a stack of records from my time and still enjoy some of them even now. there was plenty of rubbish as well though.

Thats how much i paid for it in about 97 give or take. I think it came from shifty. Wasnt that was a typical price for the time ? I think it was.

My fresh ear days were about 22 ish years ago but yes it was fantastic. hearing things like Jimmie rays “philly dog” for the first time and thinking wow !!! How did I not listen to this until now. when I watch the old Wigan footage I could also be envious for the atmosphere. It looks incredible. i have never been in a northern club with an atmosphere to match that. closest I came was early 90s house clubs

Fair enough my post was a bit generic and obviously not telling Anything like the full story. There are plenty of oldies that I love. and yes there is some dross played still. if i’m Told a record is rare or great i’m Curious enough to check it out but that doesn’t mean i’ll Like it. i like to think i’m Able to decide what I like for myself not rely on others to tell me.

Coming late to the soul scene at least i dont have to look through rose tinted specs at some of the pop music that got played. quality control seems much better now if you pick venues with the right dj's or promotors.

Yes thats the funny thing. If he or she (equality LOL) did get an offer and ended auction early i'd still expect to see it on my watch list as no longer available. there must be some other reason its not showing i dont remember this happening before maybe it has and i just didnt notice.

I was watching an item and it has just disapeared off my watch list. Not even showing as no longerr available. my guess is its been sold before auction ended amd is no longer available. in the past didnt this kind of thing still show on watch list but as an completed item or did they always used to disappear ?

Only to get a shock when they play it..... at least its a good record in its own right so not a complete disaster. this could make a good thread. What record did you buy only to find out it wasnt what you thought it was ?
