  1. Jerusalem Soul in the Holy Land Tel Aviv Soul Club I have just got back to England after a short break where I was lucky enough to visit the holy city of Jerusalem, I do not profess to be religious in any way and I am a bit of a fraud because I wanted to visit Yoni's record shop smack bang in the old city. I have been a great fan of Yoni's web site for many years, it was the very first dedicated Northernsoul site but I have been buying and selling records with him for years and as I was in Egypt on a family holiday I thought it appropriate to hire a car and drive to his shop. While we were there at Easter thee most important Jewish festival, Yoni told me of a strange site that he saw earlier that year. Yoni was preparing food for his family and he sliced open a potato, to his amazement there was a strange and remarkable pattern and he had kept the potato safely preserved so I could witness his find. Yoni led me down a small flight of stairs to his cellar and opened a small cooler box, wrapped in muzzling cloth was a potato. To my amazement he showed me the two faces inside the spud, it was of Ady Croasdale and Dave Rimmer talking at The 100 Club. I wept, the detail was incredible, there was no mistaking Dave or Ady. Here I was in old Jerusalem during the Easter celebrations and I am being hosted by one of Israel's biggest Northernsoul names whilst staring down at two of my fave DJ's on a Perennial Solanum tuberosum. Later that evening Yoni and I ate the potato along with a salad of green Israeli vegetables and some rather nice cod pieces.

Helping Soul I can't see what's in front of me? Mike if this sort of post has already done the rounds then I do apologise but I think it would be a good idea for a little etiquette threads from a member's perspective about Soul Source? My experience is all that I can call on so again don't pan me if my Soul Source initiation is unique and doesn't fit the norm; I kinda think we will have all fumbled along the same route? My first confession is that I never read what's in front of me, it's not because I want to make Mike and the Mods mad it's just that I always seam to have a Helen Keller moment when faced with a new web site such as a forum. I wanted to dive straight into the fast moving flow knowing that I could swim as strong as most and too be honest I paid little to no attention to what was listed within the other thread sections. What this did during me first few months was make me feel quite angry and a little upset when a post or one of me threads was moved to the appropriate section, remember that I didn't read any of the notes about posting. I imagine that there are different types of Soul Sourcers, those who lurk and those that hover waiting for their moment or yearning for the confidence to post, after all Soul Source can come across as a little high brow and for the uninitiated it does appear a little antiseptic and devoid of humor, well it does when Ady and Dave Rimmer post! Whoops, sorry guys, lol. I was quite lucky to have a few friends already on here and some gave me blood curdling advice about some of the stricter rules and to be fair these rules are in place for the good and benefit of us all, I know it can get a bit crazy some times when collars get hot and passions fire. I think it's a good thing to dive in, brave the cold and swim as fast as you can! You'll soon catch your breath and the water is quite nice once in. The only real favorite section for me is all about soul, I think this can be the most intimidating of sections as there are a few cats in here that really know their stuff and I suspect that there may be a hesitance to post less you feel foolish? This is Soul Sources greatest strength but greatest weakness, the train spotter factor, the way I handle this is to either think of them nude or remember that I will never be impressed by some one who sits clinging to a record box who hasn't got a girlfriend! That'll be me banned from the collectors area for a bit, lord knows if they ever teamed up with the RnB Catz, I'd be doomed! Any way back to the plot, etiquette, take a little time out to read the web site rules and some of the feedback, don't just read the threads coz this is where one of the problems lies. Get a good grasp of how the Refosoul Soul section works and have a decent play about in there; I don't think you can break any thing in there? Once you can find the sounds start reading the posts and try to cross reference the sound file to the comments, this way you can capture a better experience. My last tip is don't be afraid to ask, there is always some one that can nudge you in the right direction and the most passionate and wordy Soul Sourcers are all pretty much gentlemen and ladies who love to help so don't be put off by the tone or the heat, soul is a powerful thang! I have a tip for all of us established Soul Sourcers and that is to start visiting and welcoming on the New Member Shouts, I never do and that's just rude, shame on us. Note to self, visit New Member Shouts as soon as I log in and say hi. I'm sure Mike will be pulling what's left of his hair out at this, every thing I have said is found here right in front of us but I just wanted to give my side of the fence, any one else got any tips for the new members?

  7. Burn them all

  9. Moving on.......... I'm sure Dave won't mind me using Stafford as an example here with Johnny Taylor - What about my Love One of the tracks that broke the stale Northernsoul mould thanks to Dave T at Stafford and of course sampled by The Shape shifters I don't want to turn this into oldies versus Newies but the comfort zone kids; The Northernsoul scene was never ever about getting comfy with the music!!!!!! I say shame on the main room dancers for allowing your selves to get into such a rut that you need to have learned a track before dancing or daring not to venture onto the floor unless accompanied!! Wigan Casino would not have, could not have ever thrived unless there was a passion to dare!!! Comfort zone warriors are surely the ugliest face of Northernsoul who bring shame to our house, burn them all I say, burn them until the very roof lifts and then we shall all worship in small rooms of Soul!!! Mark my words, those who dance to the same tracks every time they go out will bare a mark and this mark will be the mark of a "D" for it is those who are marked as Divvies who will not enter that great hall in the sky when we pass, for you are dammed to dance in shopping centers and you are dammed to dance to the compacted disk of electronic media.

  11. Good grief, I have read it all now. Do you now need to have accompanying dancers to make you venture onto the dance floor? I am glad we have a multi layered Allnighter scene, sheep n wolves, I aint ever been a sheep Bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  12. "Comfort zone? We ain't got no Comfort zone. We don't need no Comfort zone! I don't have to show you any stinkin' Comfort zone!"
  13. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! Don't tell every one what happening in our secret room!!!! I'd let the so called "Big names" get on with it, Steve's room at 3am was superb on my last visit. Steve, I think you're a big name! and your records are even bigger!

Harry Betts - Theme From The Fantastic Plastic Machine, dont get much worse than that!!!!!
  15. Ady I spent all day trying to get a record identified, it turned out to be Tranells - Blessed with a love. It turns out to be a two thousand pound record so next time I hear it I will be mindful of the fact that its either a pressing or that the DJ has forked out a substantial wedge in order for me to throw my little fat shapes too, this for me, adds to the who experience of going to a top class allnighter, not telling you anything you don't already know and advocate here. You are no doubt right in what you say but I kinda suspect that most top venues stick to wax and we don't condone electronic media on the whole as those less interested in High Quality would just use this as an excuse to sling on a laptop? Besides, I don't mind a bit of snap crackle and pop when I'm dancing to a vintage disc.
  16. Ady.................... Grenade...................
