Just to come back to you on this mate - I managed and owned Hott Waxx Records in Warrington and sold soul to Scouseers all week and I djed at a lot of NW nights (Carlton, Smiths Soul Train etc etc) all well attended/supported by Scousers, also many nights in Liverpool playing new/old Soul - so yes, they are talking about Northern. If you knew a lot of the older black and chinese folk, older in the 80's and 90's even, then you'd know that the funk thing was a major part of Liverpools set up. I try not to make rash or ill-informed statements.

  11. ...perfect description....
  12. Short 'Paranoid DJ' story: Came out of Morecambe Pier Nighter about 84/85 - beautiful sunny morning, jumped into Bri's car and shot off after attempting and failing to find one of the DJ's (nameless) who should have been coming home with us. Long story short, as we turned the corner outside his flat we saw him jumping up and down on some kind of book that was on fire - proper stamping on it. WTF? It was his diary. Got it in his head the Squad were going to pay him a visit. Never a dull moment back then.
  13. I dropped one of mine and put a dink/bend in it...hit it with the flat of an hammer - plays fine. They are quite dogged and not as fragile as you'd think.
  14. 'Roadblock' - I'm saying no more.
  15. Used to cause mayhem on the floor in M's.
  16. The cardigans.
  17. ...and now the thread goes copletely off topic.
  18. It was Billy Davidson who got booed for playing this (I supplied Bill's music at the time ): ....although this is the wrong mix, can't find the 'House Mix' on YT. That same eventful year was when Colin Curtis played a 7"s set in a house stylee and Kev Edwards hilariously opened up with a filthy Ice T accapella, dropped the house lights then blew the stage up with some overly-heavy pyrotechnics setting fire to two girls blouses - the whole venue froze and I fell off me chair laughing.

    I Don't Believe it (Indeed I Do)?
  20. Nice list - I'm not normally foggy on Searlings stuff - but don't remember Marvell Love from Wigan - just Rotherham. I'm no doubt wrong but can someone shove it down me throat?
  21. You never know do you Bazza?!
  22. I'm guilty of it too mate.
