As a 'scooterist' in my youth, it was listening to scootery type sounds Including Ska Trojan Rocksteady whatever you want to call it, that got me into northern soul. Happy Days when soulies and scooterists could dance on the same dancefloor. Am throwing a charity do in January next year with two rooms, one for soulies and one for 'SCOOTERISTS'. Playing everything from ska, mod, trojan, Manchester anthems, rockabilly, etc in scootery room and 100 per cent northern in t'other room. Djs to include Carl and Maria Willingham, Stu Cheetham, Mike Warburton, Ronnie Hanley and others tba. If soul AND 'scootery' music be your thing look out for our advertising on here soon. If any Djs wish to contribute please pm me and I'll give you full details of event. On from2pm till midnight. regards Deb

- So Angry Is This The End Of An Allnighter Career?
Hi Paul. Well said on all above. Can I just point out that you did only arrive 10 mins before your spot, so you probably dont know, but I did manage to get a few dancers up through out my spot. Not many, but a few! Just thought I'd clear that up!! Deb- So Angry Is This The End Of An Allnighter Career?
I would just like to say that all comments about our first nighter have been taken on board. The night was advertised as an across the board night and IMO thats what we did. Its been a big learning curve and hopefully people will come and make their own mind up about us rather than listen to some of the nasty outburts on this forum. I was on first at 8-9pm and the room was filling up nicely. I then spent most of the night asking people their opinions and views on where we can improve. Some of the big nights mentioned on here surely took time to establish and as they say Rome was not built in a day! Just wondering why the comments on our night are not in the lookback section?? Regards Deb thanks to evereyone who came and supported us on Saturday.- Overkill A Problem ?
hoping to put an alldayer on in jan next year for charity, encompassing all of above in two rooms. in a small town of failsworth (Between oldham and manchester) . reasons for this event is that it will be a dear friends 10th anniversary of his death. He was a scooter / skin and loved northern soul. We will be trying to raise money for two charities. Its all in the planning stages and am constantly checking other events around this area so we dont clash. if we get the dj's we want this event would be right up your street!! regards Deb- Most Unexpected Floor Clearer

Sorry about the going off thread there.......thought i'd try some free advertising- Baby Washington - Get A Hold Of Yourself
when i first asked on here if anyone had one for sale i wasn't aware that it was expensive. I reckoned it would be around £30 -£50. then someone pointed me to manships auction. I personally would not pay the amount it went for nor did i say i would. Yes i want it but like i say would not pay a huge amount for it. as for being a mess of a record thats your opinion and one i didn't ask for. I simply asked what it went for on manships auction. Oh and its really not nice to call people you don't know 'nutters'.- Northern Soul What Does It Cost You?

Hi Mark! I remember chatting to you about this the other day at yours! Or need to learn to paint with both hands ! regards Deb- Baby Washington - Get A Hold Of Yourself

Been into northern soul on and off since about 1983 (am 36) . Bought a few tunes along the way. Got more into the scene about 18 months ago and even started doing a bit of djing locally. I dont recall ever going to a soul do and there be any trouble, its always been a friendly scene. I do come across folk who try to tell you what you should be listening to and who pull their faces when certain tunes are played. Surely these 'overplayed' tunes are what got them into northern soul in the first place, and they should remember that just because they might have heard them zillions of times over the years, there will be people like me who havn't tired of them yet as we are newbies to the scene!! I think the scene on the whole is fantastic, even with the chin-strokers and the ones who know best!! and as for no young people getting into the scene, there is a fourteen year old girl who regularly attends soul dos local to me and she even had a go on the decks on an all girl dj night and did a brill job!
