  1. Nice shout Russ....yep absolutely hammered in it's day and for a few years after too....still sounds great to me though...
  2. '71, right so pretty much a new release spin at the Torch then....amazing how the scene has move on and away from contemporary music... MFSB's version was a pretty good stab at a masterpiece, and showed how fresh K-Jee sounded quite a few years on, though it finishes quite a distant third IMO after the Nite-Liters and New Birth..
  3. That should be interesting.....I'll make sure I'm webbed in for this one...
  4. Awesome tune Ken.....never far from the turntable at home....
  5. Just got around to checking this thread, whlist listening to K-Jee by The Nite-Liters...absolutely awesome instrumental that still sounds as fresh to me today as when I first heard it. So different from most other instrumental tracks played back in the day....Whoever the DJ was that had the insight to play something so left-field for the day deserves much respect... Torch play I believe... and probably a new release at the time too...
  6. You're so picky.... ...still a great tune nevertheless...also on Deep City
  7. I've never seen an issue......I doubt that a stock copy exists....
  8. Here we go again with same old defensive arguement.. "night club / disco music"...... No offence but if you can't distinguish the music between your local night club / disco and souful house and funk played by the more discerning DJs on this scene....then you really are missing out on some great music. Far too easy to negatively generalise for the sake of safety....
  9. I doubt that feedback would be too positive.....
  10. Twelve and a half....the halves were important at that age....I was nearly thirteen...and probably more mature than I am now... I lived there until I was 15....never want to see another fruit machine as long as I live...and I hate bingo too..
  11. Disco 72, Central Promenade, Blackpool.....every Friday, Saturday and Sunday...back to school on Monday, waiting for Friday.... Top tunes were.... First Choice - This Is The House Fuller Brothers - Times A Wasting O'Jays - Backstabbers Elgins - Heaven Must Have Sent You Los Carnos - Get On Your Knees Sapphires - Slow Fizz Tams - Hey Girl Don't Bother Me Los Bravos - Black Is Black Bobby Freeman - S.W.I.M Moses Smith - Girl Across The Street ...great days... ....across the board soul nights before they were invented in the 90's...

Put me down for Wade.....a proper soul record ....and Boba.....not a dance record not an uptempo dance record you mean, ....it used to fill planty of floors over here in its day...
  13. You've summed it up pretty well....couldn't help the goosebumps when she opened with Letter Full Of Tears and Every Beat Of My Heart...absolutely awesome....the Motown songs she did were incredible...and you're right, If I Was Your Woman was just gorgeous.... The general consensus of opinion from the Lorraine's birthday night out ensemble was Gladys can still deliver knockout vocals, and an awesome show....but maybe the Motown tribute medley could have been made up of her recordings rather than Tops, Supremes, Temps, and Mary Wells...otherwise a 5 star show...or maybe 6 for the Bubba fun....
  14. Does anyone know who this blatant bootlegger is ??? "Northern soul CDs by Northern soul people"......160 CDs on offer. It's clearly someone with a decent knowledge of the music and scene, judging by the tracks used on the CDs....the guy even lists the book value next to the tracks.....some people have got no sense of morality https://alacartecds.vpweb.co.uk/ [url="https://www.alacartecdss.vpweb.co.uk/"]
  15. It's been played in modern and crossover rooms for yonks......great tune..
  16. Get yourself to Lifeline......it's certainly on its second lease of life there.....awesome tune...
  17. Yeah, and Steve and Lloydy....... ...oh and Deardrie.....but only when Ken's not around..... You're not paying enough attention Ken....
  18. I thought he'd sold up...
  19. Just had a call from Dev's uncle ......can anyone let him have some mp3's for the shop doorbell ??
  20. Best laugh on Soul Source..... .... I was kinda hoping that Emily would fetch her box in after Lloydy cleared off....
  21. The Gabin 12" has disappeared....you had to catch it as a new release....otherwise it's quite a tough one to find now............ The remixed Nina Simone should still be available though....it's on Verve Remixed 4 on Blue Note CD and vinyl album....try Fish at Simply Soul, Juno or Crazybeat....if not in stock....they should still be able to order for you....
  22. ....that's the way it should be....you're a credit to charity promoters.. Doesn't Gary Churm always DJ for free....just kidding.....
