There are 2 soul clubs running in Gateshead, 1 in Newcastle & 1 in Whitley Bay. During 1977/ 1978 there was always at least 1 coach down from Newcastle sometimes 2. Sometimes used to do day in Blackpool, go to Mecca & then on to Casino. After that there was always a coach down for oldies. With people travelling in mini buses, cars, trains & hitch hiking for the Saturday.

Managed to get rooms at the Expance Hotel North Marine Drive last week. Not South Shore but they did have more rooms. It is a bit more expensive than any where else. It was Saturday 21/10/78, my 18th birthday weekend & I had been to oldies nighter night before, was definately played coz I remember thinking to myself what the f**k is this place coming to. Don't ask who played it I was off my box. Could have been pre-nighter do in M's but almost certain it was main room.
