Lost Years Of The 1980s
Agree withBaz 100% hs to the origin of the term, namely compared to the 70's the 80's were really only around 900 hardcore travelling all over the country, not the lack of venues etcas, because as we can all see above, there were many great clubs at the time.

I Don't Believe It - It's Finally Finished
You failed to mention that also during the 70s Reg was a stand-in for Dave Hill of Slade fame!!! There isn't a nicer bloke on the scene than the dancing dwarf and I have been lucky enough to read several of his chapters over the past few years, usually whilst trying to dance!!!, and have to say that from those brief snippets it looks set to be an excellent read and is told very much from the heart. I have mine on order and urge everyone who says they are into Soul to get a copy for themselves and remind themselves/discover (whichever) of the way it was and still is! Well done Reg, you know MrsO and I are with you all the way on this...now spread the word and lets get Reg all the way to the Booker Prize

Modern Rooms
I know you did say it wasn't BUT lets face it thats what it always turns into and the point I was making that new blood are turned off from discovering this scene, that lets be honest we all love whatever side of the genre fence we sit on, when they come onto forums like this and read articles along those lines. probably didn't eexpress that clear enough re-reading.

Modern Rooms

Modern Rooms
Ah I remember them well Steve! The threats issued, the endless pointless ranting about the way forward, the 'my souls bigger than yours' article etc etc....hang on, nothings bleeding changed!!!! I've sided with Sam of late, i.e I consider myself a Soul lover rather than a genre lover, if its good then I'll give it a chance which is why my shelves are heaving under all types and styles of Soul. The Modern Room, and the 'Modern By Moonlight' events we held in the Main Hall, at Plinston were always well attended and too me had the best vibe and atmosphere (even when you were on Steve!!!! ) and I've always loved venues that spin everything (lest we forget that Stafford was a Modern basiton at the begining and one of the reasons we went there, cheers for the great times by the way Mr Thorley!) Bottom line, you cant please everyone and punters will vote with their feet and go to whatever venues floats their soulful boat. ENDLESS debates etc achieve nothing but, as my son pointed out to me when reading this, keep the new blood we need as a scene to survive far far away. As he said, who wants to get involved with people that seem to spend their whole time arguing about nothing, he wants a good time with great music and he doesn't belivie he will get that when he reads, yet another!, debate on Modern Vs Northern/Oldies/Xover whatever from our scene. Timmy Thomas people - Why cant we live together! (Dont bother answering as we will be here forever!!!!! lol)

Wearing Soul Badges
Ah Winnie as usual we are as one on this debate. That said how sad is it having a debate on things like this rather than celebrating the music we all adore. For me, and this is only my opinion, its debates like this that are killing the scene, pointless and divisive. Who rally gives a f*** what people wear, I never did in the 'old days' (and god knows there were some very doddgy fashions around late 70/80s) so what does it matter now? Me I love patches and have no problem with them. If you dont then ignore them, its not important in the scheme of things! The internet is a great thing, sadly it also allows pointless drivel like this debate to be aired to a wider audience. Enjoy the music, that a the end of the day is what we are all into - isn't it??

Not The Usual Vinyl Opposed To Cd Debate
and as you are well aware Martin 'her indoors' has a love for all 3 of the above and can be seen out in such at the venues we escape too! As far as the original topic is concerned for me it doesn't matter ultimately what the format is, its the Soul that is above all the over riding factor - soul by any means necessary - to quote the old Plinston mantra. Vinyl looks and feels better but there are so many great toons that are CD only that to toss them aside so easily is a crime - much like your fashion sense Rbman!!!! Rave on, rave on you mad fools unti your drown in a sea of human protoplasam......till next time campers
