Eddie Foster R.I.P.
I think he probably got the 45 from Eddie. Strange link but back then Tony was simply fascinated by Black music. It was the Northern scene that somehow irritated him. Last time I say him though was 12 years ago in Stoke(he used to work in the area) and he was in great spirits and happy it was all still prospering

Ian Levine played it first(I think Tony Cummings sold it to him). I had it a couple of weeks later after Simon Soussan sent it over to Russ Winstanley in a batch. RW wasn't overly aware of the growing momentum, therefore selling it to me for £75. Not sure if it's the same copy I have today(it sure looks like it). It went on to be the biggest play ever during my Casino years behind the decks.

More today than yesterday - The Spiral Staircase
Chris.....Hope you're well. I beg to differ on the UK CBS not being rare, so much so I will buy every copy at £25 each! Seriously mate it's way more than that. I think it's easy to assume how common it is due to the ongoing popularity of both UK-Northern and US Radio plays, but it didn't sell a carrot when released on CBS. I rarely see it for sale.

More today than yesterday - The Spiral Staircase
It was a major play at Blackpool Mecca in 1975, not forgetting it reached no.12 in the US, 1969 for Pat Upton and the boys.

WANTED ;GENERAL JOHNSON & CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
Correct. Surfside made it for Goldsoul exclusively. It wasn't to help along the Timeless cd as that deal with Expansion had not happened when the 45 was made. 500 were made of which 100 were serviced to DJ's and friends.

CHARITY EVENTS - THE ACCEPTABLE GUIDE LINES
Generally a front to be able to pocket a few quid and DJ at the same time(IMHO) Welcome wholeheartedly any genuine fund raising events for good causes but Northern has become an easy target and platform for organisers to get plenty of praise and notoriety and in some cases....funds too

Dunbar - Wayne - Lamont Dozier Article
Well in my opinion that is not factually correct and if you see MY sources(which are HDH staff connections) that I have personally met and interviewed ie Dunbar, Dozier, Johnson, Wright and Perry they tell a different story. Ron Dunbar was a good pop songwriter who I genuinely believe wrote 'Band of Gold' and others. The fact that HDH dominated the production is correct but not before Dunbar and Wayne created the ingredients for a worldwide multi million selling smash.

Dunbar - Wayne - Lamont Dozier Article
Really stunned to here that as Ron would be extremely embarrassed to hear it. Dunbar and Wayne were prolific hit makers and I totally believe his version of events. He's remained a friend since 2004 and we hope to see him in 2018 at the next Soultripusa.
-
Dunbar - Wayne - Lamont Dozier Article
Let's get things totally straight. I too know Lamont and Ron. Make no mistake Dunbar/Wayne wrote Band of Gold and others they were credited too. The guvnor's H-D-H would have inevitably been involved in the overall finished product but Ron was absolutely one of the writers. The sources of my findings are my interviews with Ron Dubar( LA 2004), Greg Perry(2004) ,Edna Wright(2004), General Johnson(2002), Lamont Dozier(2003) I will try and locate the full RD talky bit and turn it into a Mixcloud special at some stage.
