  1. We have two very worthy winners for the title of "Most liked photo" for the month of September. They are @Winsford Soul's portrait of a lapwing with its colourful plumage... ...and the wittily observed photo of crate diggers that was captured by @Derek Pearson's dearly departed friend. I hope he would have enjoyed the appreciation of his photo here. Two great pics - thanks for sharing!!
  2. Roasted, peeled and cooked with Brussel sprouts and bacon! Haha - not that old chestnut! 🤣
  3. Playing around creating autumnal scenes in a light box.
  4. Simply on the presumed basis that the track was licensed by Stardust. Whether it was or wasn’t, I don’t know. Reading the various threads that have been linked to here, it seems there’s a general uncertainty in some people’s minds whether all, some or none of Stardust’s output was legitimately released or not. Someone must know...
  5. New promo video for the 2nd small but mighty Northern Soul Amsterdam mini weekender, which takes place 7th-8th December 2018. Guest DJs: Dave Thorley, Gerd Baum, Pete Lyster, Lars Bulnheim, Matt Fox, Mick H, Dani Herranz, Andrew Skelson, Friedemann Klock and others! Weekend passes @ €20 per person available via Paypal. More info: www.northernsoul.nl Or join us on Facebook at: Northern Soul Amsterdam
  6. Could be. Looking more closely, I see Stardust's own website states the shop opened in 1983, so no direct connection between them and the label. Interesting to note that the shop's logo is rather similar to the one used frequently on the label design. Given that and the Koppel connection, I wonder if Sharron Smith, the shop owner, was involved in the label in any way.
  7. The owner is Sharron Smith. She worked with Martin Koppel at Kops record shop.
  8. My understanding is that it's the record shop that gave birth to the label.
  9. Longer discussion here, primarily around The Tempests' 45... Having had a quick check, I see Stardust Records is still in business... https://www.stardustrecords.ca
  10. Short discussion from 2013 here...
  11. Must have been about this time last year, I was having a chat at a soul night in Amsterdam with someone from the UK . They were telling me that the Tempests on Stardust is considered in some circles to be a legitimate release, and thus is a means of having "Someday" on a 45 instead of having to lug the LP about!
  12. Stunning sunset in the Netherlands this evening.
  13. Two joint winners for the most-liked photo(s) for the month of August. They are... Martyn Pitt's migrant hawker, and Johnny Jones' fine nature selection Congratulations @martyn pitt & @Johnny Jones for these wonderful photos. Well done, both!
  14. Last of the summer wine on our Dutch balcony...
  15. According to the discography of Dutch London-label releases on 45Cat website, FL2052 would have been issued late 62 or early 63. Sadly the release isn't listed, but FL2051 is listed as being released in Dec 62, and FL2054 in Feb 63. Link here: https://www.45cat.com/label/london-nl/9 The other Dutch 45 of Comin' Home (AH 101) is listed as having been released in October 62, a few months earlier, so it's reasonably safe to figure that your FL2052 is a repress.
  16. Jeez. And there I was thinking you had a modicum of intelligence. The Oxford comma is nothing like a Bedford van. Think Mini Mayfair instead.
  17. But only if it's felt an Oxford comma is necessary. If the sentence was longer, and the subjects or clauses more complicated, then the comma would help clarify meaning for the reader. In an informal context - which this is - readers can understand what is meant without the Oxford comma easily enough, so the lack of it can be readily accepted and excused. Clarity of meaning in the minds of readers trumps the sometimes arcane rules of overly complicated English grammar.
  18. There are some horrific typos in that preview and some dodgy punctuation. 😎
  19. Well worth a look - the winning entries in the 2018 Bird Photographer of the Year competition... https://www.bbc.com/news/in-pictures-45259173
  20. More likely that someone from Bell screwed up and sent the masters to the backing tracks for pressing instead of the masters with vocals on top. It seems sensible to think the pressing plant would only have used what they were given.
  21. On Renfro or the later Bell press? I presume the latter.
  22. On my copy the labels are on the right sides.
