  1. great Pete i bought the Hortense Ellis off you as i recall, sorry
  2. True Pete I am as guilty of spunking money on vinyl recorded by artists that live or have died in extreme poverty...it is a sad world we live in I had seen some pictures of Jackie living in what can only be described as squalor, with incontinence problems, and his dentures had been stolen in a recent hospital visit..it was enough to make me do something (which wasn't much to be honest) if only to make me feel less guilty
  3. Pete Check this article from the Gleaner last year https://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20140202/ent/ent1.html#.Uu58U4SA4ak.facebook I sent some funds at the time, which I believe helped pay for someone to come over to his one room home and keep it clean Sad to hear his passing...suffer no longer Jackie
  4. Been after this 45 a long time now Any condition considered, as long as it's playable Thanks
  5. Vinyl hits the spot, the more raw the better...although bum notes p*ss me off (more prevalent with Ja recordings...come on guys put the spliff down and sort it out, give the bass player a cue! - as they look at me with their rude bwoy blaad claat eyes...actually never mind, leave the bum notes in fellas if ya want) The Paul Sindab Do whatcha wanna do tune is a fine example when the bass rolls in on the chorus...I doubt you can feel that on youtube
  6. and Players.Get right - Minit Thanks Rob
  7. So why would the Roaring twenties club poster not just refer to the generic term 'Blue beat' ?
  8. There's a poster for the Roaring Twenties club in the new Mods book by Paul Smiler Anderson which states 'the only West End club playimg R&B, Ska,Rocksteady 7 nights a week' which suggest these terms were known and used in mid to late 60's, in London at least
  9. I do get that concept LilJimmyCrank, and I do own original vinyl too I just happen to buy music I love on vinyl...predominantly 45's. I do own CD's, but don't find them as endearing, but good to play in the car. Why do I have to move with the times if the past is still available and functional? I ride a 40 year bike, when a new one would be a lot more efficient and reliable PS, I'm pretty easy going and I don't really care what other peeps think on this as i'm not gonna change in a hurry...I'm not doing any harm by buying reissues on vinyl...just get a bit suprised when people get critical all the time. Life too short
  10. I'm glad you said that Pete, I thought I would have to go to where the 'weird' people go and have people poke me with sticks. I am 1st to admit I am very out of date when it comes to mp3's et.c, and maybe one day I'll catch up. I've always had a deck hooked up, I've always bought music on vinyl format since I was a nipper, and I buy re-issues for sole purpose of chucking them on my turntable and playing at home. Same with reggae re-issues of which there are plentiful supplies....I try to avoid boots if I can.
  11. With you there Pete....although my copy is a bit battered this is in my opinion his finest version of this track......sublime rocksteady to my ears
  12. Changes daily, but off top of my head : Milton Boothe - Used to be a fool (Caltone) Minstrels - People get ready (Studio 1) Melodians - Swing & dine (T Isle) Prince Buster/Charmers - Long long winter (Blue beat) Jackie opel - Lord is with me (Ska beat) Kingstonians - Why wipe the smile (Caltone) Maytals - School days (Beverlys) Enforcers - Musical fever (Blue cat) Ethiopians - Not me (Dr Bird) Skatalites - Christine Keeler (Studio 1) Cheers, Rob
  13. Tomangoes - I really love you, motown-like rumble or Masqueraders - Do you love me baby, fat n funky
  14. Would love a copy if anyone has one for sale. Many thanks Rob
  15. Brian Kelson does a few scooter rallies.........and all the skins look pretty smart...no bovver boys or punk skins thank gawd His tunes are awesome, and he mixes in a bit of northern & motown as well, which is cherry on the cake for me. I'm down Hastings way so I might try and make this. Only thing is, as original sound system, not enough bass for me.........I am a sucker for heavy bass, even on northern tunes, just a personal taste, no criticism on the system cheers Rob
  16. Please................luv yer forever
  17. If anyone has 1 spare Many thanks
