  1. I wonder if any of the regulars at the Central remember my 21st birthday down there, and I was presented with a stunning birthday cake with the Central badge iced on top. Fantastic! I also seem to remember having a whiskey for every year I'd lived and drunk myself sober, stopped drinking altogether after that and haven't touched a drop since.
  2. Yes Twink! Ian Bottomley his real name or maybe it could have been Paul Rowan?? He lives daan saaaff
  3. I know at one time he lived in Holbeck, Leeds, in the flats at the end of the street where I lived. Either Meynel Hights or Holbeck towers. Never went to his place though.
  4. Queens hall was used for many different events after the Northern dos, I remember playing there at a Rave event in the 90s, great place. Also was Windsor baths ever used for Northern events? another nice venue!
  5. Next weeks Xmas do! Get there early, cut off point 300-350 depending on how it looks, this is to attempt to leave room to dance :-)
  6. A few nice CDs including 1 unreleased. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ultra-Rare-Demo-Northern-Soul-CD-Never-released-Mint-/310538855379?pt=UK_Records&hash=item484d8ee3d3 More here! https://stores.ebay.co.uk/Soulman-Auctions/Soulman-music-shop-/_i.html?_fsub=2&_sid=45946198&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
  7. Cool Pete, ah well the USA Demo I got to replace it sounds as good and looks better IMHO :-) and it only cost me £8, so bonus!
  8. This week I have mainly been getting these! Chuck Jackson - How long have you been loving me - US Caroline Sister Sledge - Love don't go through no changes on me - US ATCO Demo
  9. Just sold a UK demo copy of Sister Sledge - Love don't go through no changes on me on Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310528982055?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649 I really didn't expect that, I thought at the very most a tenner.
  10. Some top stuff on here with lots of House crossover tunes such as Dinasoar L - Go bang, and Young MC - Know how, both huge on the House scene. Would have liked to see my fave Jazz Funk track of all time on there - Lonnie Liston Smith - Space Princess, but hey, the amazing Expansions is there, so who could complain. Great package!
  11. Just got it through today and transferred it to CD for the car. The whole recording after the gaps have been edited out is only 37 minutes long.
  12. Did the Robin Wilson come out on general release, cos the only ones I can see are A&M demos? apparently there are 2,both with different B sides ?
  13. When was Robin Wilson?
  14. Which came first? Little Anthony's or Robin Wilson's version of 'Better use your head?
  15. very difficult to choose a 'pre set routine' when you don't know what the DJ/s before you are going to play. Best take a selection of more than you need, but all playable tunes just in case. I have seen many a DJ come unstuck when he has only taken just enough records for the time of his set, and the DJ before him has played a few of them. Boy scout rule - Be prepared!
  16. Don't see how anyone can dis the instrumentals, they have been a staple diet of the scene since it began. The Gallop BRILLIANT!, Exus trek, BRILLIANT! The Champion, BRILLIANT! Thumb a ride, BRILLIANT!, and even Little Queenie filled the floors back at the Torch and still fills the floors and gets Whoops of joy when it's played today!
  17. Awesome Modern Soul 7" for sale - Listen Chuck Jackson - How long have you been loving me - US 'Caroline' Records M- https://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1558.l2649
  18. Stanton do still make them but have changed the model number and shape, but they are still basically the same. https://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a25fada51 If you want to upgrade to Ortofon, you can get these that will fit directly on to your 'Technics' headshell https://www.ebay.co.u...=item3cbdb8e738 To be honest, I would stick with the Stantons, they or more rugged and still sound excellent. Ortofon are nicer looking but are more for club use, but Stanton are an all round winner. If you want to go the whole hog and change your cartridges for Ortofon getting rid of your Technics headshell, then you want these or similar. These will screw directly on to your tonearm as the Technics headshells do. https://www.ebay.co.u...=item5d3628dc90 Hope this helps. PS- I used to sell carts (Cartridges) and styli for years in my records shops.
  19. Just bought this off eBay, Has anyone seen one before? It is the Major live at the 'Torch' on tape but under another title. I checked with the seller what the opening song was and he said "it starts off with "another Martyn Ellis cock up", so I'm sure it is the same recording. Just wondered if anyone knew of the tape and why it was released under another title? Update! After a little more research I have found out that it was actually a Belgium release on the 'Surprise' label, and was also issued as a vinyl album. Still strange that they should change the title?
  20. Sister Sledge - Love don't go through no changes on me UK Atlantic Demo Mint-. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310528982055?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  21. I only have one B&S would you believe, but it is a good one. It's the Wigan 3rd anniversary edition with Marvin Gaye on the front, number 309 Sept 23rd to Oct 4th 1976. Here it is again now rearranged. Looks tidier now.
  22. Just got this through and it plays loud and clear
  23. Thanks fellas, put mind at rest there. I'll let you know what the quality is like when it comes
