  1. Well if anyone on here has a copy of Linda Jones for sale for £25, I'll have it providing it is in decent condition of course.
  2. heheh! wanna be a partner? we can go halfs if yer like, should imagine there will be quite a lot of 'Dead Stock' though
  3. Heheh! Excellent, and thanks for inviting yourself to my funeral. I think it does mattey what happemns to your records when you leave, even if it's just for your peace of mind while you are here. I think I may open a record shop called 'Dead man's records' so if someone dies and hasn't left their records to anyone, the next of kin can drop them off and let me take care of them. How does this look?
  4. Heheh! "MMM? tastes like Arsenic this?"
  5. Just a thought that I have on a regular basis, What will happen to your records when you depart this mortal coil? I am seriously thinking of having mine burried with me, but with 15000 records in all, I'd have to have a tomb the size of Tutankhamun I couldn't trust the wife with them, she'd give 'em to the local charity shop and be glad to see the back of 'em. Anyway, just like to hear your thoughts.
  6. Yes, I never thought that Linda Jones was worth £75, as you say, hardly rare, and a UK release. I can sort of understand the Ila Vann one being worth a bit, as they seldom come onto the market, and at least it's a US release, and may I add, a top tune.
  7. Not with mine they f**king won't, I'm having mine burried with me LOL Some twat will dig me up in a thousand years and say "'WOW! Northern Soul, this guy had class"
  8. 100% agree with you Kev, mind you we were saying the over 30 years ago, that there was no new blood coming into the scene, but as we all know, it is still going strong today. In my opinion, the scene will live on and progress for a great many years yet. I have been pleasantly surprised as to how many young en's turn up to events and they are the us of tomorrow. I also remember doing a gig in Leeds last year and one of the DJ's was 18 years old and he was brilliant. So there's hope yet.
  9. i know it's a rough way of doing it but this works. Run a line of sellotape along the crack, but on the side that you may not play, it stops the crack and providing that you make sure that the 2 parts are dead level with each other, it will still be playable.
  10. What? you did a Night Owl? that's disgusting and I'll be reporting you the animal rights. LOL
  11. As mentioned in an earlier post, prices of Northern tunes are decreasing. Linda Jones - Just can't live my life on UK Warners, has just sold on Ebay for £45.99, which if i remember rightly a month or so ago was fetching around £70-75 And I have just purchased a copy of Ila Vann - You made me this way on PIP for £38, which again, the last copy went on the bay for I think around £85. It was a choice for me which one to go for as both auctions ended within a hour of each other, but I plumped for Ila Vann as I think it is my favorite out of the 2. So what do the members of the forum think about the dropping prices, or is it just coincidence?
  12. Thank you for your help. yes I think they are all ok in their own way although not rare gems. I particularly like the 'Three degrees - I didn't' know track, A real nice dancer, and the John Edwards tune is a good mid tempo modern track, really nice. Oh and yes, sorry, i did mean 'The next five' Thanks again
  13. If it helps anyone I could post the audio so you can have a listen? They are all worth a listen if you don't know them.
  14. I keep mine in a database with artists, title, label and country of origin. It beats having to look through all of your records to see if you already have a tune, every time you see one that you're interested in. They are dead easy to set up too, and really handy if you want to send a list of your tunes to someone, as you can save the database as a small text file.
  15. OOPS soz, mi-spelt the topic title, it could have been priced or picked LOL It's picked anyway :-) Hi folks, just picked up some nice 7s out of a second hand record shop. To be honest i took a bit of a gamble as i hadn't heard some of them, but the labels looked right and artists, producers etc. I think I have been quite lucky as they are all decent. Does anyone know them on here aand let me know if they are worth what i paid. thanks The next Time - Mama said - Wand - £3 The three degrees - I didn't know - US Philadelphia Demo - £3 The three degrees - Free ride - US Philadelphia Demo- £3 John Edward - Stop this merry go round - US Aware demo - £3
  16. There was one on the Bay a few weeks ago, went for £78.
  17. The first time I heard northern on Corrie was in the 70s, when one of the younger members of the cast, one of the Barlowe's i think, was playing 'Marvin Gaye - Little darling' in her bedroom. Priceless!

I thnk the Susan Maughan is the best in my humble opinion, and it has been dance floor proven. I played it at the Irish centre in Leeds and the floor was full, and afterwards a guy came up and said that it was the best tune that had been played all night, and before you say it, there were some awesome tunes played throughout the night. saying that, everyone has their own preferences and i like both versions, but I tip on the side of Susan's version.
  19. There are loads of disco tunes have crossed over to the Northern scene, although I have never liked the Benny Troy tune, there are a lot that I and many others do like, where do I start? Ace Spectrum - Don't send nobody else, The Brothers- Are you ready for this, Esther Philips - What a difference a day makes, Sister Sledge - Love don't go through............., All Disco tunes, and one or two of 'em made it to anthem status. As we all know it was Blackpool Mecca that crossed the disco tunes over into the Northern Scene, good thing, or bad, there are some monstrous disco tunes. Views?
  20. The 'From the vaults' album is excellent, and well worth the punt. got one a few months ago for about £8 I think. but you can't get the Spinners track any other way as it was never released on 7". Also don't know if any of you know this, but the 'Ace Spectrum' track 'don't send nobody else' was released on an album called 'The disco years 1974-1979'. I know it's a bit off topic like, but the recording is good and loud and an alternative to paying the silly money that the 7" is changing hands for now. Discovered it quite by chance and paid a fiver for it, and as a bonus you get 'Sister Sledge - Love don't go through no changes on me. bargain! Hey Ho!!
  21. heheh! you sound like the geezer on 'cash in the attic' "erm I think it should fetch between £20 and £200 at auction" LOL
  22. has anyone got any idea of what Maxine Brown's ' Let me give you my loving' is worth please? ta! thanks! Cheers
  23. Looks like the same one as i have, and I was informed on 'SS' that it is a boot. It didn't bother me much as it only cost me about £9, but £89 is a bit different. How can you actually tell the boot from the orig'? BTW 'dancingcollector' he has quite a bit of Northern on there and either knows what to charge, or has had advice from a third party?.
  24. Just stuck some Northern bits on Ebay if anyone's interested. Nowt special, but a few collection fillers. Northern bits n bobs
