Micksmix June 2, 2024Jun 2 5 of 5 members say helpful 5 / 5 members Really enjoyed Culcheth last night, arrived at 8.10 nearly all the tables in the main room had been taken, so all boded well for a busy night. Baz was on the decks for the first hour, some tasty tunes played, as you would expect!! I enjoyed my 9-10 slot behind the decks, nice to mix it up a bit and keep it popping along!! First guest of the night Taz followed me, an eclectic mix of the classics(Calvin Grayson) ,Funky Edge and a few R+B things that went down well with the dancers and great to hear Modern Soul Classics like Ice "reality" finding favor on the dance floor . Uncle Ted was top of the night and took it on to another level again mixing the big hitters Walter + The Admirations, Mellow Souls in with some raw edge R+B Mike Pedicin sounded a bit good!! Kev Murphy rounded off a great night early selections like The Del Tours was non too shabby. We dipped in the Modern Room a few times and a busy night as well, great mix of modern soul across the decades, so hats off Baz, job done mate!!
Mickyfinn June 2, 2024Jun 2 (edited) 6 of 6 members say helpful 6 / 6 members A great night at Culcheth We arrived nice and early. Baz starting things with a typically good mix, including some lesser known tunes. Mick Howard took over at 9, quality all the way and designed to please any dance floor, kicking off with JJ Barnes “Please Come Back Home”, and included The Trends and The Delegates of Soul. Next up was Taz, with excellent and varied choices: The Crystals, The Four Tracks and finishing with Johnnie Mae Mathews. Ted took us up to midnight, with a typically brilliant selection of tunes, including the Antellects, Admirations and Jimmy Phillips. Kev did the witching hour, a super set that climaxed and showcased some all time classics : Lester Tipton and The De-Lites. A great evening of soul music was had by all, the night concluding with Magnetics “ Count the Days. Big thanks to all the DJ’s and organisers. Note to self, try and spend more time in the modern room. I caught a good part of Charlie Smiths set, for the second time in as many months, playing some incredible rare crossover and modern tracks. Bazm June 5, 2024Jun 5 (edited) 4 of 4 members say helpful 4 / 4 members So, where to start? Well first with BIG THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who came along to CULCHETH TWO ROOM SOUL NIGHT on Saturday, and a special thank you to the DJ’s in both the main room and modern room for their commitment and choices of music. It’s obvious that the CULCHETH Soul Night is definitely ‘carving a niche’ with the North-West soul crowd as a place where you can hear and dance to some of the best music being played today, in the true spirit of our scene, a spirit that has always encompassed everything good about the music we love and the ethos that has kept many of us engaged over the years. Nothing was more evident than that on Saturday, with everyone loving the music being played in their room of choice, whether that was the rarer side of 60’s and 70’s soul in the main room or Modern from the past four decades, in the Modern Room, with some folks spending time in both rooms and enjoying the sounds being featured in each. Which brings me to the DJ’s and the music featured on Saturday. Overall, it was quite frankly, a top mix with something for everyone. In the ‘Northern’ room, I heard everything from the Dynamics wonderful, mid-tempo ‘You Make Me Feel Good’ to the stomping, mega rare Mello Souls ‘We Can Make It’ and everything in between, with all having a real, floor-filling effect. (See Video) The Modern Room was the same, straight from the off on Saturday, with Pete Ratcliffe showcasing all the latest new, vinyl releases, which is something that people are now travelling to hear, cause in many cases CULCHETH is the ONLY place you’ll hear these records being played in a venue environment, something that really brings these records to ‘life’. Then, carry on into the night and you’ll hear quality steppers like Memphis ‘Inside My Love’, dancefloor favourites, such as Keni Burke ‘Let Somebody Love You’, right through to mega rare 70’s 45’s from the likes of Joseph Webster, Richard Caiton and Fluorescent Smogg ! So, once again thanks to everyone for making CULCHETH a soul lovers ‘must visit’, monthly event… NEXT NIGHT JULY 6th with SPECIAL GUEST DJ JOHN VINCENT <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Ftsopsoul%2Fvideos%2F1606532149891004%2F%3Fidorvanity%3D316483758485723&show_text=false&width=560&t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe> 20240601_232614.mp4 Edited June 5, 2024Jun 5 by Bazm
