Modern Anthems

Back in the day, well my day any way, most Northernsoul tracks where unknown by the great unwashed, now that was a shame as the music is mega and most people would enjoy the tunes that have become classics and anthems.

When the CD collections happened it allowed our music to be heard effortlessly and we now have well known and loved anthems that capture our imaginations and get us dancing or at least tapping our feat.

Yes we can all get snobby about this, I am the worlds worst offender but lets put these things to a side for a while and list the Modern Anthems, I hope we can do this without getting bogged down in the "It aint Modern coz it's old" argument.

If we list some of the better known, well loved danceable Modern tracks here then we may get more people peeping into the Modern Rooms or just listening and enjoying.

I'll start with a couple of my faves from over the years:

The Dells - Your Song

Lou Rawls - See You When I Get There

Thelma Houston - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

These are all available on youtube and they make me smile and dance, I hope you enjoy them and I hope this list will be added to so we can all expand our minds in a expanding kinda way.

This track hit me right between the eyes when I first heard it at the Casino. Had me rushing to the decks to see who it was I'd always been a fan of the Hot Wax/Invictus lables so I thought it might be Honey Cone or Laura Lee. Totaly suprised to learn that HDH had another lable in the states and it was a young lady called Eloise Laws managed to snag a copy about a year later for £6.00 at the Ritz and it will always be my top ever 'modern anthem'

Incidently the record that followed it at the Casino that night was Fantastic Johnny C Don't depend on me got to be another anthem

Guess this was all around 74-75

When did the 1st Modern records creep into playlists

Is this list nearing 500 yet?

Can't wait to see it in it's entireity.

Being a person who loves all styles and eras of Modern Soul - its reassuring seeing them all sitting next to each other and it could/should go down in history methinks....yes.gif
