I have a few 60's Soul compilation albums and wondered if they are collectable and what they sell for. Here are a few examples all in good condition.

I have a few 60's Soul compilation albums and wondered if they are collectable and what they sell for. Here are a few examples all in good condition.

The Checkmates - Mastered The Art Of Love - always reminds me of Alan Walls opening tune at Glenrothes YMCA , mid 80's

"Mastered The Art Of Love" featured Sonny Charles on lead vocals whilst the other Checkmates track "Do The Walk" features Bobby Stevens and according to the sleeve notes they went on to record for Phil Spector at A&M. I seem to remember they had a minor UK hit as Sonny Charles & The Checkmates in the UK but can't remember the title.

Bell's Cellar of Soul Vol 1 & 2 worth a few bob, dunno about Vol 3 cos don't know track listing.

This was Bell catalogue b4 they took up with sweet soul of Delfonics et all. Betty Harris Titus Turner days if memory

I love these compilations. Back as a 15 year old soulie in 73, picking up a copy of Funky Bottom Congregation with the current big sound "Honest To Goodness", or A little Bit Of Soul, with "Blowing Up My Mind", and "Change Your Ways", was a great thing. And if I remember correctly, at the time they were regarded as a good thing to have. Unlike today with the anal "it's not the original US release and therefore not worth having" attitiude. They weren't bootlegs, and also were the original UK release.

But that is a whole new thread!

I have a (knackered) LP on Polydor and it's associated with the NME. I'm at work so can't actually look at it but I think its from about 66/67 & it is very weird because along with the likes of the Who it has The Holidays & Big Dee Irwin!

I also have an LP on Track called Liquorice All-Sorts with track by the Debonnaires, Parliaments and the like. It's a very PC album 'cos the title is also in braile.

Isn't that Track album called Backtrack 6 or similar? Cover had a scruffy urchin smoking a reefer/splif/joint - cudda been 1 of many on here
