November 9, 201113 yr There was an article in Northern Noise I think on Destiny Records. If i remember right,There was a listing of how many demos were pressed up,Anyone remember the article? Kev Roberts would know!
November 9, 201113 yr Kev Roberts would know! Yes he should do Pete the article/interview was with him.
November 9, 201113 yr Global record sales, licensed the record, to Kev Roberts, via the connection cuppy had with swan.
November 9, 201113 yr Didn't Richard Searling work for them (Global Records) in his early days? Didn't he also have a connection with Grapevine via RCA? Is there any connection?
November 9, 201113 yr Yes he did, the story as I remember, was grapevine licencsed, the record via Bill Haley's wife, cuppy, who the label was named after, hence the confliction over its UK release.
November 9, 201113 yr Is this similar to (but perhaps not in the same league as) Darrell Banks and the London/Stateside release? Will it be a future case that the two (almost) simultaneous releases of Lover will make the record hound discuss this very subject again and again? TOTP
November 11, 201113 yr Many many years ago, I was on a trip to Hurts Yard with Kev Draper, where we found a copy of the Delites Destiny issue. Kev Roberts, thought they had discarded all the issues. Heres the story he (Kev Roberts) told Kev Draper and I. We had the rights to to The New Wanderers "This Man in Love", but Grapevine released it before we had chance, so in retaliation we decided to press The Delites "Lover" as demo only. When questioned about a "stray' Destiny Blue issue, we found buried in the shelves upstairs, Kev Roberts said, in a shocked voice, oh.. I thought we had discarded the all of the blue issue stock, we certainly have never released it for sale!! (might explain Pete Smiths explanation of Demo labels stuck over blue issues?) Kev Draper and I looked everywhere for more blue issues, but couldn't find not one other single copy. We then asked if Destiny were going to issue the New Wanderers, he smiled and said, no I doubt it. Since then, I've always wondered if out there somewhere is a New Wanderers on Destiny??? I'm pretty sure the the Delites Destiny Issue is a very scarce item, interestingly it was released with the flip side of a totally different Cuppy release by the Zombies. Weird!!!! Strange world of Northern Soul!!
November 11, 201113 yr this link may help https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/search/Label/destiny/all/1 Our sales data suggests the stock copy is rarer by a ratio of 4 to 1
November 11, 201113 yr Bob on John, can always rely on you for a result. Personally never liked the label but the demo looks better than the issue to me (colour co-ordination).
